Kanpur (Metro Rail News): On August 12, 2024, Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. (KPIL) – Gulermak JV began preparing the first batch of tunnel ring segments for Line 2 of the Kanpur Metro project.
These tunnel segments will be used for the twin tunnel construction on the 4.08 km long Rawatpur to Double Pullia underground section of Corridor 2. KPIL-Gulermak JV is carrying out the work of this section under package KNPCC-11. The section will include a twin tunnel and three underground stations: Rawatpur, Kakadeo, and Double Pullia.
To construct twin tunnels in this underground section, KPIL-Gulermak JV will use two tunnel boring machines: S-1408A and S-1409A. It is likely that these TBMs will be deployed by 2025.
Package KNPCC–11
- In December 2023, KPIL-Gulermak secured the KNPCC-11 contract, valued at ₹762.50 crore, from the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation.
- The KNPCC-11 package has a deadline of 30 months.
- Following Line-1’s KNPCC-05 and KNPCC-06, KNPCC-11 is the third underground package for the Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project.
Kanpur Metro Line 2
Line 2 spans 8.38 km from Agriculture University to Barra 8. It will have a total of 8 stations. Officially construction work commenced on Line 2’s underground section in April 2024. Recently, casting work of the mid slab below the concourse level has begun at Rawatpur Station. Rawatpur Station will serve as an interchange station between Corridor-1 and Corridor-2
