Navi Mumbai Metro

Operational Operator: CIDCO Length: 11.10 km Official site ↗

Navi Mumbai Metro is developed by CIDCO, the planning authority for the satellite city, rather than a dedicated metro corporation. Its first elevated line serves the Belapur–Pendhar corridor across the planned townships of Navi Mumbai, with a depot at Taloja, and forms the initial piece of a larger network envisioned across the region.

Further corridors are planned to extend the metro toward the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport and connect additional nodes of the satellite city.

Why it matters

Navi Mumbai is a rare case of a metro built by a city-planning authority as part of an integrated new-town scheme, rather than retrofitted into an existing city. That makes it a distinctive model of transit-led development – the line is meant to shape where the city grows, not just serve where it already has.
