KANPUR (Metro Rail News): The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) concluded the three-day statutory safety examination of the remaining section of Corridor-1 covering Kanpur Central to Naubasta. CMRS Mr Nilabhra Sengupta, along with a five-member team of experts and officials from the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corp. Ltd (UPMRC), conducted the thorough inspection of the section, which concluded on Sunday (June 28).

The CMRS team stepped onto the metro at the Naveen Market Metro Station, two stations before the Kanpur Central Metro Station, for a trial run, examining the complete stretch from Kanpur Central Metro Station to Naubasta Metro Station. The team inspected the following safety and technical systems specifications of the Metro:

  • Signalling & Telecommunication Systems
  • Civil Structures
  • Track Stability
  • Braking System
  • Electrical Systems
  • Traction Power Supply
  • Rolling Stock 
  • Emergency Response Mechanisms

Earlier, the CMRS had already conducted a primary inspection of the Metro Corridor-1. After the inspection, Corridor 1 of the Kanpur Metro will be entirely operational from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta. The metro currently operates 14 stations, and with this addition, seven new stations will be added to the network. The stations to be included after this addition are: Jhakarkati Bus Terminal, Transport Nagar, Baradevi, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Baudh Nagar, and Naubasta.

The Corridor-2 (CSA Agriculture University-Barra 8) of the Kanpur Metro is presently under construction, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a 3rd Line (Barra 8-Naubasta) has been approved by the state government. Recently, seven new corridors were also proposed for the Kanpur Metro network.
