
KANPUR (Metro Rail News): Kanpur Metro has received the 9th train for its Blue Line (corridor-2). The train has arrived at the metro depot near CSA station. It will run on the upcoming blue line connecting CSA (Agriculture University) with Barra-8. This train was manufactured at Alstom’s manufacturing plant in Savli, Gujarat.
Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has announced that out of the 10 trains being manufactured at Gujarat’s Savli plant, the 9th train has reached Kanpur. Under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, these trains have been manufactured by Alstom domestically in India.
Kanpur Metro’s Physical Progress
According to the report of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Kanpur Metro has achieved 82% physical progress as of June 2026, on its 32.4 km project. The Blue line of Kanpur metro is an 8.6 km corridor connecting the Agriculture University with Barra-8.
At present, the metro is operational on a 15.2 km stretch from IIT Kanpur to Kanpur Central. Further, extension of the corridor-1 (Red Line) to Naubasta and the Blue Line are currently underway.

Alstom’s Trainset and Signalling System
Alstom is manufacturing and delivering a total of 201 metro cars, equipped with advanced signalling systems for Kanpur and Agra Metro Rail Projects of UPMRC. The trains are designed in Hyderabad, while the signalling systems have been developed in Gurugram, India and Bangkok, Thailand.
These trains are being manufactured at Alstom’s facility in Savli, Gujarat. They will foster the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Further, these trains will be equipped with the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) system. Alstom delivered the first train for Kanpur Metro in September, 2001.
