Bhopal Metro

Operational Operator: MPMRCL Official site ↗

Bhopal Metro, built by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRCL), is bringing rapid transit to the state capital in parallel with the corporation’s larger Indore project. Its Phase 1 plan centres on two corridors combining elevated and underground sections through the city, with a priority stretch of around 6 km beginning operations.

Construction continues on the balance of the network, which will connect Bhopal’s main residential, administrative and transport nodes including the Rani Kamalapati and Bhopal Junction railway stations.

Why it matters

As the smaller of MPMRCL’s two builds, Bhopal is a measure of whether a state capital of its size can sustain a full metro’s economics – a question increasingly relevant as more Tier-2 cities weigh metros against lighter transit modes. Its shared corporation with Indore also allows procurement and engineering efficiencies worth tracking.
