Varanasi Metro: Information, Route Maps & Project Updates

AN OVERVIEW

Varanasi Metro is a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system with two corridors proposed to be made in Varanasi by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.

The 1st DPR of the project envisioning a heavy-rail based system was made by RITES in 2015 and signed by the Uttar Pradesh’s state cabinet 18th on April 2016 & by the Central Government’s cabinet on 23rd May 2016.

The proposed line of Varanasi Metro Phase 1

  • Line 1 – From BHEL to BHU
  • Total distance – 19.35 km
  • Station Names: BHEL – Tarna – Shivpur – Sangam Colony – Gilat Bazar – Bhojubeer – Collectorate – Nadesar – Varanasi Junction – Kashi Vidyapeeth – Rathyatra – Benia Bagh – Kashi Vishvanath – Bangali Tola – Ratnakar Park – Tulsi Manas Mandir & Benaras Hindu University
  • Line 2 – From Benia Bagh to Sarnath
  • Total distance – 9.885 km
  • Station Names: Benia Bagh – Kotwali – Machoori Park – Kashi Bus Depot – Jalalipura – Punchikrshi – Abapur – Havelia & Sarnath
