Delhi–Meerut RRTS

Operational Operator: National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) Length: 82.15 km Updated: Official site ↗

The Delhi–Meerut RRTS (Namo Bharat) is India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System, an operational 82.15 km line run by NCRTC from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. Standard fares run ₹20 to ₹210, trains operate 06:00 to 22:00, and the full trip takes about 55 minutes. Its route map, fares and timings are below.

The Delhi-Meerut corridor is India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System, a new class of transit that sits between conventional metro and true high-speed rail. Built and operated by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) under the RAPIDX / Namo Bharat brand, the 82.15 km line links Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut with trains designed to cruise at 160 km/h, cutting a journey that takes hours by road to under an hour.

The corridor is opening in stages, with priority sections already carrying passengers and the balance under construction toward full commissioning. Uniquely, the same infrastructure hosts two tiers of service: regional Namo Bharat trains making limited stops end-to-end, and a set of eight Meerut-city stations served by local metro-style trains.

Why it matters

The RRTS is the template for a mode India has never operated before, and Delhi-Meerut is the proof of concept. Its success, engineering, ridership and the shared regional-plus-local service model, determines whether the seven other planned RRTS corridors get built. For readers, it is the single most important transit project to watch in the NCR, both as an operational system and as national policy.
