Kanpur (Metro Rail News): The Kanpur Metro project achieved another milestone as Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. (KPIL) – Gulermak JV’s TBM Gomati recorded the first breakthrough near Agriculture University station of Line 2 spanning 8.38 km between Agriculture University and Barra-8.


About TBM Gomati (S-1408A)
TBM S-1408A, nicknamed TBM Gomati is a Ø6.6m Herrenknecht Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) machine deployed by (KPIL) – Gulermak JV. TBM Gomati is the fifth TBM deployed for the construction of twin tunnels for Kanpur Metro Phase 1.
TBM Gomati is the first of two TBM machines deployed for the underground package KNPCC-11 which covers a total distance of 4.08km from Agriculture Depot to Double Pullia Ramp on Line 2.
For its first assignment, TBM Gomati was deployed in October 2024 and constructed a 622 m tunnel from Rawatpur station to the ramp at Agricultural University.
Kanpur Metro’s Package KNPCC-11
In December 2023, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) awarded Package KNPCC-11 of Kanpur Metro Line 2 at Rs. 762.50 crores with a 30-month deadline.
The scope of work under this package includes the construction of twin tunnels from the Agriculture Depot to the Double Pullia Ramp consisting of 3 underground stations.

For its second assignment, TBm Gomati will be deployed again from Rawatpur station towards Kakadeo Station to construct a 722 meter tunnel.
