Railway Minister Flags Off Bhopal-Dhanbad and Bhopal-Chopan Express Trains

BHOPAL (Metro Rail News): In line with the vision to increase the rail connectivity in Madhya Pradesh, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, virtually launched 2 train services: Bhopal-Dhanbad-Bhopal New Tri-Weekly Express and Bhopal-Chopan-Bhopal New Weekly Express at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi

Meanwhile, the launch ceremony took place at Bhopal Railway Station, and it was attended by Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Dr. Mohan Yadav, Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Jagdish Devda and Shri Rajendra Shukla, Members of Parliament Shri Alok Sharma and Dr. Rajesh Mishra, Members of Legislative Assembly Smt. Radha Singh & Smt. Riti Pathak and other dignitaries.

The new train services will streamline the rail connectivity across Vidisha, Ganj Basoda, Bina, Sagar, Damoh, Katni Murwara, Khanna Banjari, Beohari, Singrauli, Chopan, Chandrapura, and Dhanbad, among others. These services will strengthen inter-state connectivity between Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, while establishing a direct link between the Singrauli coalfields and key industrial regions with the state capital, Bhopal.

Budget Allocations to Boost Railway Development & Rail Safety in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh has been allocated ₹15,188 crore for strengthening railway development in the state. This sum will be used to expand infrastructure, improve security, and increase freight capacity. In addition to this, there are plans to implement the Kavach system over 4,591 route kilometres in Madhya Pradesh.

Amid ongoing railway expansion, the planned freight corridor between Dankuni (West Bengal) and Surat (Gujarat) is expected to benefit Madhya Pradesh by improving freight movement across the region. The corridor will help reduce transit time and improve logistics efficiency for industries operating in the state.

With this connection, Madhya Pradesh will get better access to major ports in Gujarat and Maharashtra, making it easier to transport goods for export and domestic trade.

DELHI (Metro Rail News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first complete Delhi – Meerut RRTS corridor and the country’s fastest metro system in Meerut. The Prime Minister flagged off the Namo Bharat train and Meerut Metro services from Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station.

The ceremony saw the dedication of the entire 82-kilometer Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor and the inauguration of development projects worth approximately ₹12,930 crore. Following the flag-off, PM Modi and CM Adityanath undertook a metro ride from Shatabdi Nagar to Meerut South station, experiencing firsthand India’s fastest metro system operating at speeds up to 120 km/h.

At 12:30 PM, the historic moment arrived as the Prime Minister, accompanied by CM Adityanath, flagged off both the Namo Bharat train and Meerut Metro from Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station. The two leaders then boarded the Meerut Metro for a journey to Meerut South station, experiencing the fastest metro system in India operating at maximum speeds of approximately 120 km/h.

At approximately 1:00 PM, PM Modi inaugurated and dedicated the development projects worth ₹12,930 crore to the nation. 

The inauguration marks the completion of India’s first fully operational Regional Rapid Transit System, a project that has been under development since construction began in June 2019. The 82-kilometer corridor connects Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut, traversing through major urban centers including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, and Modinagar.

The newly commissioned sections include a 5-kilometer stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and a 21-kilometer section between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.

Meerut Joins Metro Club

With the inauguration of the Meerut Metro, the city joins an elite group of metro-connected cities in Uttar Pradesh. Meerut now stands alongside Lucknow, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, and Kanpur as cities served by metro rail systems. 

Current Ridership and Projections

Currently, over 60,000 passengers commute daily on the 55-kilometer operational stretch that was functioning before today’s inauguration. With the complete corridor now operational, ridership is expected to increase substantially as commuters from Delhi, Ghaziabad, Meerut, and surrounding areas, including Faridabad, Gurugram, and Noida, begin utilising the service.

Transportation experts project that daily ridership could reach 167,000 passengers within the first year of full operations.

MMRDA Announces Mumbai Metro Line 12 Extension at ₹8,415 Crore

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): In a major infrastructure boost for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced the extension of Mumbai Metro Line 12, now designated as Metro 12A, at ₹8,414.53 crore. The 18.4-kilometre corridor stretches between Manpada (Kalyan) and Taloja (Navi Mumbai). It will run parallel to the busy Kalyan-Shilphata Road, is expected to dramatically improve connectivity across Kalyan, Dombivli, and Bhiwandi.

The project was announced by Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde following sustained efforts by Member of Parliament Dr. Shrikant Shinde. MMRDA has also approved a four-lane double-decker elevated corridor between Kalyan Phata and Rajnoli with an estimated cost of ₹5,909.21 crore.

Route and Connectivity

Metro Line 12 currently connects Kalyan-Dombivli to Navi Mumbai via Taloja. The newly approved Metro 12A extension will run from Kalyan Phata via Dahisar Mori and merge with the existing Metro Line 12 near Khutare Village before reaching Taloja Railway Station, also known as Amandoot station.

Between Katai Naka and Kalyan Phata, the metro line will share common tracks and stations with the proposed Metro Line 14, which will connect Kanjurmarg to Badlapur.

DELHI (Metro Rail News): In a major boost to urban connectivity in the National Capital Region, the Union Cabinet has approved the extension of the Noida Metro’s Aqua Line from Botanical Garden to Noida Sector 142. The 11.56km elevated corridor, featuring 8 new stations, will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹2,254 crore with completion targeted within four years. The approval, granted in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 14, marks a significant milestone in strengthening metro connectivity across key commercial and residential zones in Noida and Greater Noida.

Project Overview

The extension will branch from the existing Botanical Garden Metro Station and connect several important commercial, residential, and employment hubs along the route. Upon completion, the total metro network in Noida and Greater Noida will expand to over 61 kilometers.

The project, to be implemented by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRC), addresses a critical gap in the current metro network. Currently, commuters traveling between the Aqua Line and Delhi Metro’s Blue and Magenta Lines must exit at Sector 52 and walk to Sector 51 to switch lines. The new extension will provide seamless interchange at Botanical Garden, eliminating this inconvenience and improving travel efficiency.

DELHI (Metro Rail News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the complete Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat RRTS corridor and flag off the Meerut Metro on February 22, 2026. A historic milestone that will connect Sarai Kale Khan in New Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut in under 50 minutes.

On February 22, 2026, PM Modi will travel to Meerut, where he will:

Inaugurate the final 26 km of the 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, making it India’s first fully operational RRTS line.

Flag off the Meerut Metro Phase 1 (23 km, 13 stations.

Which Sections Are Being Inaugurated?

Two remaining stretches of the Namo Bharat corridor are complete and ready for launch:

  • Sarai Kale Khan- New Ashok Nagar (5 km) in Delhi
  • Meerut South (Partapur Tiraha)-Modipuram (21 km)

With these additions, the entire 82-km corridor from Sarai Kale Khan (New Delhi) to Modipuram (Meerut) will be fully operational for the first time.

Delhi to Meerut in 50 Minutes

Namo Bharat trains operate at speeds of up to 160 kmph, making the full Delhi–Meerut journey in approximately 50 to 57 minutes. The Meerut Metro trains will run at a maximum speed of 120 kmph for intra-city travel.

Compare this to the past: a Delhi–Meerut road journey once took nearly 3 hours and was often considered unsafe. After expressways, it came down to around 45 minutes. With Namo Bharat, it becomes even faster, safer, and more predictable.

Meerut Gets Its First Metro

The 23-km Meerut Metro Phase 1 with 13 stations will launch on the same day, running from Meerut South to Modipuram. Importantly, the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat trains will share the same infrastructure.

A dedicated control facility for the Meerut Metro will be built at the Modipuram Depot, while the entire RRTS corridor will be monitored from the Central Operations Control Centre in Duhai, Ghaziabad.

With this launch, Meerut joins Lucknow, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, and Kanpur as metro-connected cities in Uttar Pradesh.

1 Lakh Daily Passengers Expected: The Ridership Impact

Currently, over 60,000 passengers commute daily on the 55-km operational stretch. NCRTC officials project that once the full 82-km corridor becomes operational, daily ridership will exceed 1 lakh passengers. Since its first launch in 2023, Namo Bharat trains have served over 50 lakh commuters cumulatively.
