North Central Railway Exceeds the Average Freight Growth of Railways by 8.1%

DELHI (Metro Rail News): In the first half (April-September) of the financial year 2026-’27, North Central Railway (NCR) recorded a total of 10.84 million tonnes of freight loading, which marks 8.1% higher than before. During the first half of the financial year 2025-’26, NCR contributed towards 10.03 million tonnes in the freight sector.

Indian Railways (IR) had calculated a growth rate of 4.1% in freight loading during the first half of the financial year 2025-’26. Thus, the recent numbers highlight the consistent efforts put forward  by NCR towards growing beyond the average growth rate of IR alone. 

North Central Railway’s rise at various directions

NCR successfully assumes fresh freight traffic recently to grow business and generate novel sources of revenue.  The following new numbers were achieved in freight sector:

  • 0.11 million tonnes was achieved by loading 28 rakes of dolomite from Maharaja Chhatrasal Station Chhatarpur (MCSC).
  • 0.05 million tonnes was achieved by loading 12 rakes of iron ore from Biora station.

There was an increase in the loading percentage of several commodities as well: foodgrains grew by 51.7%, ballast rose to 19.6%, container loading increased to 11.9%, cement loading by 6.9% and fly ash loading by 5.2% respectively.

Prayagraj’s consistent steps towards NCR’s success

The highest achiever stood out in notice as the Prayagraj Division that marked a 28.7% growth in freight transport during the period of April-August, thus surpassing the original average success. 

The freight revenue between April-August registered as Rs. 1003.74 crores that highlights the rapid achievement of 5.7% as compared with the past year’s performance of Rs. 949.53 crore earned by NCR in the same timeline.
