KOCHI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety has determined to delay the safety inspection of the distance of 1.3-km Thykoodam-Petta stretch of Kochi Metro project that was earlier scheduled to be carried out on 25th of March. Delhi Govt allots Rs 5,941 cr for public transport and Metro

From now the project to develop Golf Club Station in Corridor 1 of the Patna Metro Rail has been cancelled. Where Corridor 2, Premchandra Rangshala, NMCH, Kumara Park and Gandhi Setu Metro stations would not be developed. Now metro stations would be developed in Ramakrishna Nagar, Khemnikchak along with Jaganpura.

On Tuesday Bihar CM Nitish Kumar approved the fresh alignments of 32.12 km metro rail corridor proposed by Municipal Development and Housing Department as recommended by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The project cost would increase by Rs 179 cr after the change. There would be an entirety thirteen elevated and thirteen underground stations in the total metro project of Phase I according to the revised alignments.

The lockdown was announced including UP, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The state govt would issue orders providing only necessary services to operate in these 75 districts with verified COVID-19 cases or casualties, a Home Ministry official spoke.

Kolkata Metro rail services lockdown till March 31

KOLKATA (Metro Rail News): On Sunday the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (KMRCL) stated that the metro services would close till March 31 as a precautionary measure to prevent the outbreak of Coronavirus even the Indian Railways determined it would not operate any commuter trains across the country till the last of this month.

Chennai Metro Rail to run at a gap of 7 min from March 23-31

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): In the sense of sanitising trains to curb the extent of COVID-19 the Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) would run at a gap of 7 min instead of 5 min from March 23-31. “This weekend time schedule of the metro trains would continue for weekdays also in terms of disinfecting trains,” replied CMRL officials. 

This would be during the day in lines from Washermenpet-Airport by AGDMS and Central-Airport by Koyambedu, announced by Chennai Metro Rail Ltd.

Commuters travelling from Central-St Thomas Mount would get trains at a gap of 14 min. CMRL has been sanitising the trains on a regular basis and has been screening commuters in all its stations.

Along with hand sanitisers have been placed at the machine where people place their metro travel card and drop travel tokens. Anticipation announcements are communicating in the trains and commuters are told to maintain one-metre distance among each other.

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has also announced suspension of services between 10 am and 4 pm from March 23 to March 31 to discourage non-essential travel by the public.

In a press release on Saturday, the CMRL said that the decision to reschedule the services has been made to prevent the spread of coronavirus. According to the release, Chennai Metro rail services will be restricted to specific hours of the day during the suspension period.

The trains will run from 6 am to 8 am enabling citizens engaging in essential services to commute, and from 8 am to 10 am for the office-goers. Similarly, the services will be operational between 4 pm and 8 pm in the evening. Metro trains will not be operational between 4.30 am and 6 am, 10 am and 4 pm and 8 pm and 11 pm.

Earlier, the CMRL had announced that it will be operating one train every seven minutes instead of one train every five minutes from March 23 to March 31. The CMRL had also announced that in response to the Prime Minister’s call to observe a curfew from 7 am to 9 pm on March 22, it will be suspending its services fully on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu meanwhile has reported three new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. Of the three cases, two are Thai nationals and one a resident of New Zealand who was visiting Tamil Nadu. This takes the number of active cases in the state to five, including a 21-year-old man from Delhi and a 20-year-old student who landed in Chennai from Dublin, Ireland.

The state government has also announced that all educational institutions, cinema theatres, entertainment centres, amusement parks, shopping malls etc be shut down till March 31 as a precautionary measure against the spread of coronavirus. 

Hyderabad Old City Metro to complete soon: KTR

HYDERABAD (Metro Rail News): On Wednesday State municipal administration & urban development minister Mr KT Rama Rao stated that they will complete the left construction works of Hyderabad metro rail in the old city as soon as possible.

During responding to the questions asked by the members in the State Assembly he made this statement. He replied that they will finish the process of the acquisition of religious areas with the support of their local leaders. Criticising the union govt, he performed it clear that the Center had only ten per cent share in the project and also added that they yet did not get Rs.250 cr from the Center for the project.

Saying that the state govt is absolutely serious on public transport he announced that the CM KCR had given liberal funds for the overall development of Hyderabad city. KCR request Minister KT Rama Rao to start work on the metro and complete it as shortly as possible also he spoke about the dilapidated building at the Osmania General Hospital, that has been dubbed risky for trade and the need for a new building.

He also said that several people had filed cases in the court to stall the demolition of the existing building so that a fresh one can be constructed in its place.
