DMRC plans to build new Light metro corridor between Shastri Park and Kondli

DELHI (Metro Rail News): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has conducted a survey on the possibilities of running light metro on the route between Shastri Park and Kondli in Yamunapar. DMRC is currently working on the plan to build a new corridor on which the low-cost light metro will run. The feasibility report on this has already been sent to the government. They will start preparing the Detail Project Report (DPR) of this corridor as soon as the approval is received from the government.

The metro officials said that at present the people of this area are connected to the metro network through feeder buses. Metro Managing Director Mangu Singh said that the plan to run Light Metro between Shastri Park and Kondli is true and added that they have sent a feasibility report to the government long back. If approved this corridor will be 15kms long.

If the construction of this corridor is approved many parts of the eastern district which are located between the Blue Line (Vaishali to Dwarka) and the Pink Line corridor passing through Vikas Marg will be directly connected. Shastri Park, Purana Seelampur, Gandhi Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Lake, Laxmi Nagar, Mandawali, Vinod Nagar till Kondli will also be connected by this corridor. He said that further work on this would start only after getting approval from the government and at present, this file is only under consideration with the Transport Department.

Currently, there is no direct connection between these areas and it is the busiest route of Metro Feeder Bus. A total of 22 metro feeder buses intersects on this route. Metro also runs its own feeder buses which connects adjoining areas of Kondli, Mayur Vihar Phase III, Kalyanvas, Mayur Vihar Phase II, Pandav Nagar, Shakarpur, Laxmi Nagar, Geeta Colony, Ramesh Park, Gandhi Nagar, Pushta Road. If the corridor is built it will benefit at least a dozen of these areas.

Light Metro can be operated even with fewer resources and facilities. In many cities, this type of new technology is used when there is not enough space. Such a metro can also be operated with three coaches in it. Its speed is less than the normal metro and the cost is also reduced by up to 40 percent.

MahaMetro launches a 600 tons girder to cross railway tracks at Khadki

PUNE (Metro Rail News):  MahaMetro on Friday erected a 79-metre-long girder crossing the railway lines where the Metro viaduct takes a turn towards Range Hills. It is among the biggest girders launched in the Pune Metro project so far. The long web girder was kept ready to save time and the construction to launch this was going on at Khadki for the past six months. The Pune Lonavala railway route had to be closed for 5 hours to get the web girder launched from the railway track.

A temporary structure of 650 tonnes was built to support this 600 tons girder. 30,000 bolts which are made of special metal were used to construct this. The width of this open web girder is 9.7 m, height is 10 m and the length is 79 m and is made from the E 35D steel grade plate. The entire 600-tons open web girder was placed on a specially made roller. Using two large witting machines, the great girder was moved forward by the push-long method. The launch of this girder has resulted in the smooth running of the advanced route from PCMC to Range Hill.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Indian Railways has placed an order for 58 new Vande Bharat trains with seven companies including Medha Servo, Bombardier and Siemens. Along with that railways has also placed developmental orders with 4 different corporations which are able to manufacture at least one train each. By this railways aim to create a much bigger pool of producers who can meet future demand for such trains.

The government has a plan to introduce more Vande Bharat trains to increase connectivity on interstate routes and also on capital connectivity corridors. The future Vande Bharat trains will have sleeper facility for overnight journeys to benefit the passengers in more ways.
Currently, two Vande Bharat trains are operational yet and 44 are under manufacturing. Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her previous speech had introduced the rollout of 400 extra trains within a couple of years.

Good news for Indian Railways passengers, restrictions on bedroll and blankets revoked

DELHI (Metro Rail News): Good news for Indian Railways passengers as now they do not have to carry linen and blankets for their train journeys. In a major relief to passengers, the government issued orders on Thursday, 10th March, to resume providing linen, blankets as well as curtains inside trains.

In view of pandemic and covid protocol due to Covid-19, Standard Operating Protocol (SOP) for movement of passengers by trains was issued which imposed the restriction on linen, blankets and curtains inside trains. The Railway Board said the supply of linen, blankets and curtains would resume with immediate effect.

The government previously suspended the service of providing meals, linen and most of its concessions due to pandemic but now has reintroduced these onboard facilities. In an attempt to prevent the spread of coronavirus, former Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had decided to withdraw the provision of blankets along with curtains in air-conditioned coaches of all train services but certain arrangements were made so that blankets are provided to train passengers on demand. When the restrictions were in place passengers were advised to bring their own blankets for their long train journeys.

Now first AC class passengers will be provided with blankets on demand with freshly washed covers according to the reports. Other than that spare blankets and curtains were said to be washed, dried and stored in a dry, clean storage facility. Indian Railways had said that 100 per cent fresh washed linen will be provided to train passengers in sealed packets as per instructions.
