Kerala’s Semi-High Speed Rail Project is identified for development: Ashwini Vaishnav

On the 6th of December, the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested him sanction the Semi-high speed rail project. Vijayan made it clear that the upcoming project will be beneficial for both Kerala and Nation.

KERALA (Metro Rail News): Kerala Rail Development Rail Corporation Pvt. Ltd. has identified the Semi-High Speed Rail Project, stretching from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod for development. Through his written reply, Ashwini Vaishnav made it clear whether Kerala Government has approached the Central government with the Semi High-speed rail project, i.e., ‘Silver Line’ running between Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod.

KRDCL is a joint venture company with the Kerala government having 51 per cent stakes and the Ministry of Railways with 49 per cent stakes. The total length of the stretch is 531 Km and worth Rs. 63941 crores. Vaishnav also added that the consideration of the project depends upon its techno-economic viability.

He added that the Kerala government has also agreed to meet all the land acquisition costs of Rs 13,700 crore. However, Vijayan showed his concern about the project because of the present financial position. Pinarayi wrote a letter to the Prime Minister amidst the opposition by the Congress to the ambitious project of the Vijayan’s government. A plea has been moved in the Kerala High Court alleging that the state government carries out the land acquisitions without getting a centre or other authorities.

Kerala Metro Rail Pvt. Ltd. Has decided to celebrate Kerala Metro Day on 17 June. On 17 June 2017, the state’s first metro rail project, i.e., Kochi Metro, was dedicated to the Keralites. Moreover, KMRL has also decided to introduce signature music for metro stations. Each station will have a different tune, which can be easily heard and the announcement when the train reaches the station.
