DELHI (Metro Rail News): The 69.5 kilometres section covering Karchana and Mirzapur across the Delhi-Howrah railway corridor has been equipped with the indigenous Kavach 4.0 automatic train protection system .

According to Jagran Josh, NCR (North Central Railway) Public Relations Officer Amit Malviya stated that with the commissioning of Kavach 4.0 on the Karchana-Mirzapur section, the total Kavach coverage across North Central Railway has increased to 785 kilometres. This progressive expansion has surpassed the original planned distance of 700 kilometres across the Delhi–Howrah corridor.

Key railway safety features of Kavach 4.0

  • Kavach assists loco pilots in operating trains safely during dense fog and adverse weather conditions by providing accurate signal information.
  • The protection system helps in automatic braking in situations of abrupt stopping of the trains or in cases of traffic violations.
  • Kavach 4.0 enables the trains with enough safety against head-on and rear-end train collisions.
  • It also provides safety to the trains in situations of Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD).

The commissioning of Kavach 4.0 on the Karchana-Mirzapur section marks another step towards strengthening railway safety and improving operational reliability on the busy Delhi-Howrah corridor.

The achievement reflects the collective efforts of the Signal and Telecommunications Department and the field teams involved in the project. It also reflects the constant guidance and leadership of General Manager Naresh Pal Singh and Deepak Kumar Sinha, Principal Chief Signal & Telecommunications Engineer, North Central Railway, who made this possible.
