Maharashtra Government has approved India’s first-ever pod taxi project which is set to link Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mira-Bhayandar. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will oversee the feasibility studies and detailed planning for this project which aims at tackling growing traffic congestion across the region.

The project, initiated under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, will operate on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. While MMRDA will act as the nodal agency, private firms will bring in technical expertise and investment to ensure swift execution and advanced technology integration.

Pod taxis, also known as Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), are small, automated, driverless electric vehicles designed to carry two to six passengers at a time. Running on dedicated elevated tracks, these pods offer point-to-point service that eliminates intermediate stops and road interference.

Globally, pod taxi systems are already operating successfully in locations such as Masdar City (UAE), Heathrow Airport (UK), Suncheon City (South Korea), and Rivium (Netherlands).

BANGALORE (Metro Rail News): Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced NSL Constructions as the lowest bidder for the Architectural Finishing contract for 6 elevated stations of Phase 2B line of Bangalore Metro Rail Project.

Stations: Hebbal, Kodigehalli, Jakkur Cross, Yelahanka, Bagalur Cross and Doddajala

BMRCL invited bids for this contract with a 485 days deadline. Technical bids were opened on 23 Sep 2025 announcing that 6 firms have submitted bids for the contract. Technical evaluation of the submitted bids occurred on 18 November. On 19 November financial bids were opened.

Bhopal Metro Project: CMRS Completes Inspection of Priority Corridor

BHOPAL (Metro Rail News): Bhopal Metro project progressed as the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) conducted a 3 days inspection of the Bhopal Metro Priority Corridor. The Priority Corridor is a part of Bhopal Metro Line-2 (Orange Line) which spans 14.99 km connecting Karond Circle – AIIMS.

The 3-day CMRS inspection of the 6.225 km AIIMS–Subhash Nagar Priority Corridor, including the Bhopal Metro Depot, was conducted by Shri Nilabhra Sengupta, Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety. During the inspection, key systems such as stations, depot, signalling, third rail, and safety arrangements were thoroughly reviewed.

The Bhopal Metro,also referred as Bhoj Metro, is an under-construction Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) being developed for the city of Bhopal.The project is implemented and overseen by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL). Phase 1 of the network includes two corridors with a total of 28 stations and is expected to become operational by 2027.

Union Govt. Declines DPRs for Coimbatore, Madurai Metro Projects

The Union government has returned the detailed project reports (DPRs) for the proposed metro rail systems in Coimbatore and Madurai, citing that both cities fall short of the minimum population requirement under the Metro Rail Policy, 2017 for the establishment of metro system. Tamil Nadu submitted the comprehensive mobility plans and alternative analysis reports for the Coimbatore and Madurai metro projects in December 2024.

On 14 November, during a communication with the state government the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs returned the DPRs for both the projects stating that Coimbatore’s population, as per the 2011 Census, stands at 15.84 lakh, while Madurai’s is less than 15 lakh. The population of Coimbatore & Madurai are below the two million which is required under Clause D(ii)(a) of the 2017 policy to initiate metro planning. The communication from the Union ministry emphasized that metro projects are capital-intensive and must be planned carefully to ensure long-term sustainability.

However, Transportation activist Dayanand Krishnan questioned the decision, pointing out that cities such as Agra (15.5 lakh), Patna (16.8 lakh), and Bhopal (17 lakh), with similar population sizes have already received metro approvals. He added that the combined equity and subordinated debt component for the Coimbatore and Madurai projects amounts to about Rs 3,000 crore, requiring an annual central contribution of roughly Rs 750 crore, a relatively modest amount compared to other major infrastructure projects.

Transportation activist Dayanand Krishnan said “The Union govt has sanctioned larger projects elsewhere, including a high-speed rail system (bullet train) costing around Rs1 lakh crore, and rejecting the Tamil Nadu proposals on grounds of cost and population would deny transport benefits to a sizable commuter base,” as reported by Times of India.

Officials from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) indicated that the correspondence should not be seen as a final rejection. They confirmed that revised versions of the DPRs would be prepared and resubmitted after consultations with the state government and central agencies.

The Union ministry, however, suggested that both cities should focus on cost-effective alternatives like modernized bus systems and the implementation of bus rapid transit systems (BRTS). The communication also noted that Madurai’s comprehensive mobility plan, approved by the state, indicates that current travel demand would be adequately served by a BRTS rather than a metro.

RDSO Successfully Completes Oscillation Trials of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) has successfully concluded the trial run of the second Vande Bharat Sleeper rake. RDSO conducted detailed Oscillation Trials and Emergency Braking Distance (EBD) tests at varying speeds on the 16-coach Prototype Sleeper Rake-2.

The trials were carried out across three railway zones—North Central Railway, West Central Railway, and Western Railway. A senior railway official reported, “RDSO has fully completed the trial run of the second Vande Bharat Sleeper rake.”

During trials , the Vande Bharat Sleeper train achieved a top speed of 180 kmph. The testing commenced on the Mahoba–Khajuraho section of the North Central Railway, continued along the Sawai Madhopur–Kota–Nagda stretch under the West Central Railway, and concluded on the Ahmedabad–Mumbai corridor of the Western Railway.

The trials included running the train at a top speed of 180 kmph to assess its braking performance, stability, vibration levels, and the reliability of both mechanical and electrical systems

An official mentioned “It will be sent to BEML to carry out corrections identified during the trail run. Then it will be directed as per instructions of the Railway Board,” as reported by IndianExpress.

PIB Approves 2 New RRTS Corridors in NCR

The Public Investment Board (PIB), has approved two new Namo Bharat (RRTS) corridors connecting Delhi with Gurgaon, Rewari, Sonipat, Panipat, and Karnal. Together, these projects carry an estimated investment of Rs 65,000 crore and will now proceed to the Union Cabinet for final approval.

The first phase from Delhi to the SNB Urban Complex near Bawal spans about 107 km and includes 16 stations. The full alignment will feature around 22 stations once extended further south.

The Sarai Kale Khan- Karnal RRTS corridor will extend northwards through major Haryana towns such as Sonipat and Panipat, reaching Karnal. The detailed project report (DPR) for this corridor has already been prepared.

The Delhi–Meerut RRTS Corridor is currently the only operational RRTS line in India. The Delhi–Meerut RRTS Corridor Spans 82 km connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. At present, a 55-km section between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South, comprising 11 stations, is operational .

Delhi Metro: Texmaco Rail & Engineering Bags ₹15.06 Cr Track Contract

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has awarded a ₹15.06 Crore Contract to Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited for executing track works at Line 11, Line 10 and Line 3.

Contract Value: INR 16.68 Crores

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Contract Scope of Work: Installation, Testing & Commissioning of Ballastless Track including Supply of Buffer Stop for 2.2 T-KM of Line -11 at Saket -G Metro Station, 3.3 T-KM of Line-10 at Sarita Vihar Depot and 0.3 T-Km at Noida Electronic City Metro Station of Line -3.”

Sudipta Mukherjee, Managing Director, Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited, said, “This project is fully aligned with the national priorities of Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and we remain firmly focused on delivering reliable, high-precision rail solutions that support India’s long-term transportation vision.” as reported by ET Manufacturing.

Furthermore, Texmaco is also currently executing a 58 T-KM track work package for DMRC covering the Majlis Park to RK Ashram station extension. So far, the company has completed 22 T-KM of track laying, along with six scissor crossings, eight crossovers, and five turnouts.

The study was meant to assess the technical and financial viability of developing this corridor as a future extension of the Green Line.

Currently, the Green Line spans from Madavara to Silk Route covering a distance of 33.46km through 31 stations.

Indian Railways is phasing out the older ICF (Integral Coach Factory) coaches and introducing advanced LHB (Linke-Hofmann-Busch) coaches across its network. The move aims to improve passenger safety, comfort, and travel experience while aligning with global rail standards.

LHB coaches are modern stainless-steel passenger rail coaches , originally designed in Germany and now manufactured in India. LHB coaches feature advanced safety enhancements such as anti-climbing devices and fire-retardant materials.They are designed for higher speeds, with an operational limit of 160 kmph and a maximum design speed of up to 200 kmph, surpassing the older ICF coaches that are limited to 140 kmph.

LHB coaches offer several advantages, such as a longer car body for increased space, enhanced passenger comfort, LED lighting, 5-pin charging sockets, and disc brakes for efficient braking. They are also equipped with four emergency openable windows for faster evacuation and an Emergency Light Unit (ELU) providing up to six hours of backup power.
