NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Indian Railways approved modifications to the Model Concession Agreement (MCA) for Container Train Operators. CTOs ( Container Train Operators) can now run container trains across all routes on the Indian Railways network under a single, nationwide license.

Earlier there were separate permissions and distinct fee structures for different route categories. But now there is a  single flat registration fee of ₹25 crore for all-India access.

Another benefit is that Concession permits can be extended for an additional 20 years upon expiry without re-licensing friction, while in old frame work there was a complex renewal system which required separate extensions and associated regulatory fees.

The framework will remove administrative delays, lower regulatory costs, and simplify the approval process for private rail freight operators. It encourages private investments , the streamlined terms are designed to attract greater private sector participation and expansion in container rail logistics.
