PUNE (Metro Rail News): Alstom, global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, today celebrates the commencement of passenger services on Pune Metro Line 3. Inaugurated virtually by Honourable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, the elevated corridor of 23.3 km from Hinjewadi IT hub to Shivajinagar serving 23 stations will deploy Alstom’s advanced Metropolis metro trainsets to provide a safe, reliable, and world-class commuting experience for the citizens of Pune.
The project is being delivered through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with Alstom responsible for the delivery of 22 Metropolis trainsets. By establishing a high-capacity transit link, this phase will drastically enhance urban connectivity and is expected to ease the daily gridlock for thousands of commuters.
Olivier Loison, Managing Director Alstom India said, “Pune Metro Line 3 is a step towards easing congestion and modernising the daily commute along the city’s busy IT corridor. At Alstom, we are proud to support this transformation with our 100% made-in-India Metropolis trains, engineered for Pune’s evolving mobility needs. Designed to operate efficiently for decades, our trains support sustainable urban travel and a better quality of life, helping build a more connected Pune, with less time in traffic and more possibilities for everyone.”
In line with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives, these high-tech metro trainsets are manufactured in the country at Alstom’s world-class facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. To date, 20 of the 22 trainsets have been delivered to the Maan depot. The delivered trains have successfully completed all mandatory tests and approvals from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), and are now fully ready for passenger service.
