DMRC wins 2 awards at 12th Urban Mobility India Conference and Expo 2019

LUCKNOW (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) wins two awards for its commendable initiatives in promoting the metro as a green and sustainable mode of transport among the masses.

Delhi Metro was awarded for the ‘Last Mile Connectivity‘ project in the category of best non-motorised transport and the ‘Green Metro project – An Initiative for Sustainable and Viable Urban Transport’ in the category of best green initiative in urban transport, at the 12th Urban Mobility India Conference and Expo 2019 held from November 15 to 17 in Lucknow organised by IUT, DMRC said in a tweet on Sunday.

The awards were given away by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma.

The Delhi Metro began its first services on Shahdara-Tis Hazari corridor of Red Line in December 2002. Over the years, the network has spanned length and breadth across Delhi-NCR and carries over 20 lakh passengers every day.

Hon’ble CM Yogi Adityanath Inaugurates the Civil Construction work for Kanpur Metro Project’s Priority Section

After the renaming of Lucknow Metro rail Corporation Limited as Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, civil construction work was inaugurated today for the Priority Corridor (IIT- Kanpur to Moti Jheel) of Kanpur Metro Project. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the construction work today on 15th Nov. 2019 (Friday) at IIT-Kanpur Main Gate (construction site location).

Along with Hon’ble CM, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep Singh Puri; Chief Secretary, GoUP; Principal Secretary (Housing), GoUP; Municipal Commissioner, Kanpur and senior officials of UPMRCL were also present at the inaugural. After the inaugural event at the construction site, Hon’ble CM Shri Yogi Adityanath addressed the dignitaries and guests at IIT- Kanpur’s Auditorium.

” The total length of the Kanpur Metro phase 1 will be 32.5 KM and it will have 2 corridors. The first corridor will be from IIT Kanpur till Naubasta of 23.5 KM and the second corridor of length 8.5 Km will be from Barat till Chandra Shekhar University. Both the corridors will be constructed simultaneously. We aim to finish the priority section by the end of 2021. It is a challenging task however we are determined to finish the project as per the deadlines ” said Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRCL).

It may be noted that Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, (UPMRCL) who is leading the Kanpur metro project hails from Kanpur only. He did his graduation from IIT Kanpur. Under his able leadership, Lucknow Metro’s construction work was completed before the deadline making it the fastest metro construction in India.

The contract to build the viaduct of an 8.728 km long elevated section of the priority corridor was awarded to Afcons Infrastructure Ltd. on 13.09.2019 and the piling work will begin in full swing from 15th Nov. 2019.

The 8.728 km long Priority Section includes stations at the IIT- Kanpur, Kalyanpur Railway Station, SPM Hospital, CSJM University, Gurudev Chauraha, Geeta Nagar, Rawatpur Railway Station, Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, Moti Jheel.

The estimated expenditure towards this Priority Section is about 2000 Cr. and it is estimated that metro operations on the priority corridor will commence within a span of around 2 years. It has been that the construction of Depot of Kanpur Metro Rail Project’s Corridor-1 will be done at the Government Polytechnic’s land.

UPMRC had earlier completed the work of Lucknow Metro North-South Corridor Project within a record time of four and a half years and is so far the fastest ever constructed and executed metro rail project in the country.

PATNA (Metro Rail News): The soil tests for the Patna Metro rail project (PMRC) are going on in full swing on its north-south corridor between Rajendra Nagar and Interstate Bus Terminus (ISBT) depot. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has assigned the work to a Rajasthan-based firm, which was the lowest bidder.

DMRC is the executing agency of the Patna Metro rail project. Urban Development and Housing Department (UDHD) special secretary Sanjay Dayal told on Friday that soil tests started a fortnight back. “It has been started from Rajendra Nagar to ISBT via Malahi Pakri and Bypass.

Work on the east-west corridor from Danapur to Patna Junction will also be taken up without delay. Once the soil tests report comes, tender for construction work will be floated,” said Dayal, adding, “It will take six months to award the construction work.

DMRC director (works) Daljeet Singh said the soil testing work started on November 1 and will be completed in two months. He said, “Planning for stations is also going on. Once finalized, the PMRC will be asked for required land freezing.” Sources said another fresh alignment will be prepared for north-south corridor based on fresh soil test report as Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) did not give its no-objection certificate for a metro rail to pass from Kumhrar area, which was in its initial design.

Also, the stretch from Rajendra Nagar up to ISBT will be completely elevated. An official from one of the sites said they have been given a three-month time frame to complete the soil tests. “The soil sample is being collected from the desired depth, which will be later sent to the laboratory for test.

After the report comes, the company will recommend the kind of treatment the soil has to be given and the material to be used for the foundation. We are using five machines as of now,” he said. Former UDHD secretary Chaitanya Prasad had signed an agreement with DMRC for the Patna Metro rail project in September this year to execute the project in five years. DMRC is being paid Rs482.9 crore for consultancy.

UPMRC joins hand with UNICEF in child right protection

LUCKNOW (Metro Rail News): Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) along with UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) started a campaign at metro stations in the city to support child rights protection, help meet their basic needs and expand opportunities for the full development of their talent duly launched on 16th November 2019.

Organized in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL) to mark the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the campaign was launched at 5 pm from the photo booth at Hazratganj Metro Station. On this occasion, Ruth Lyons, UNICEF Uttar Pradesh Chief of Feed Office and Dr. Kumar Keshav, MD UPMRCL were present.

On this occasion, Ruth thanked the Lucknow Metro for joining the Children’s Campaign and thanked the five selected metro stations for joining the campaign # Go Blue on Blue Day every year with blue lighting.

Volunteers are also sensitizing visitors about child rights through photo booths at all these metro stations. In which till Saturday more than six and a half thousand people have posted photos with hashtags like CRC 30 and for Every Child Every Right. Punjab provides Connectivity at ICP for “Kartarpur Corridor” Project

PUNJAB (Metro Rail News): As per the mandate of Indian Railways, RailTel, a Miniratna PSU of Indian Railways, has provided Railwire Wi-Fi at the historic Dera Baba Nanak Railway station, Punjab, to enable the pilgrims to use fast Wi-Fi services as an amenity. The “Kartarpur Corridor” Project has been inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on 09 Nov 2019.

This has caused more people to use the station for commuting. Free Wi-Fi at this station is proving to be a boon for the passengers. The free Railwire Wi-Fi can be used inside the railway station premises by anyone who has a smartphone with a working connection for KYC consideration. The Sultanpur Lodhi station which has a rush of pilgrims for visiting Dera Baba Nanak has also been provided with Wi-Fi.

In a mission to turn the Railway station into a platform for Digital inclusion, RailTel has provided free Wi-Fi at 5300+ Railway stations across the country. Soon, all feasible Railway stations (except the halt ones), will have free Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi service to passengers is being provided under ‘RailWire’- the retail Broadband initiative of RailTel catering to Enterprises, SMEs and homes.

To use the Wi-Fi, the user has to switch on the Wi-Fi mode on the smartphone and select the RailWire Wi-Fi network. The RailWire homepage automatically appears on the smartphone. The user has to enter his or her mobile number on this homepage. The user will get a one-time password (OTP) in the form of SMS in the message box which has to be entered on the home page of RailWire. After entering OTP Users will be able to access high-speed internet & can start internet browsing.

RailTel was also entrusted by NIC to deliver 8 Mbps BW at Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur under the prestigious “Kartarpur Corridor” Project of Government of India. This leased line connectivity shall enable the ICP for authentication of traveler’s identity at the Immigration Check Post (ICP) and Foreigners Registration Officers (FROs) through the use of intelligent documents scanners and biometrics, updation of Foreigner’s details at entry and exit points.

This leased line connectivity has been done within a record time of 15 days which includes Radio Connectivity in Backbone/Aggregation from Amritsar to Dera Baba Nanak, a distance of 45 KM, and Last mile underground OFC connectivity of 5 KM from Dera Baba Nanak station to ICP/Dera Baba Nanak.

This was a very challenging project for RailTel as the time period gave was very short and due to bad weather, the work was hampered for a couple of days. RailTel had to erect two 30-meter-tall towers for Radio link to provide seamless connectivity as Dera Baba Nanak is at a distance of 49 km for which repeater had to be provided for connectivity to the farthest / remotest point in Punjab near International Border.

Feasibility study of the metro project completed

COIMBATORE (Metro Rail News): Two years after a metro rail project for Coimbatore was announced by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in the assembly, the private consulting and engineering company entrusted to conduct the feasibility study of the project has submitted its report to the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).

Once the state government gives its nod for the study, a detailed project report (DPR) would be prepared working out the nitty-gritty of the project as well as the financial outlay.

The private company, Systra Group, has also approached the district administration and the city municipal corporation to furnish details about development work to be implemented in the city and state highways, national highways roads and national highways authority of India (NHAI) roads.

According to sources, the state government is planning to construct a flyover from Uppilipalayam to SITRA for a stretch of 10.6km. The state highways and national highways departments are at present carrying out many road works and flyover work in the urban and rural areas of Coimbatore. Based on the details provided by the district administration and the corporation, the private company would prepare the DPR.

A senior officer of CMRL said, “After the respective departments furnish the information to the private engineering company, it would prepare a detailed project report (DPR).” The DPR will include possible routes of the metro rail. Besides the routes, a DPR will have details on the estimated budget, alignment, number and names of stations, elevated or underground corridors and other requirements to build the facility.

As per the feasibility study, the metro rail would be implemented in four corridors in the city with a total distance of 136km. While the first corridor would start from Ukkadam and end at Kaniyur covering 26km, the second corridor would cover 24km from Ukkadam to Pilichi near Karamadai on Mettupalayam Road. The third corridor would cover 42km from Thanneerpandal on Thadagam Road to Karanampettai on Trichy Road and the fourth corridor would to 44km from Karunya Nagar to Ganeshapuram.

The corridors were planned based on vehicular and pedestrian traffic on the city’s main roads including Trichy Road, Sathyamangalam Road, Avinashi Road, 0and Mettupalayam Road.

UP CM launches civil construction work for Kanpur Metro’s priority section

KANPUR (Metro Rail News): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the civil construction work for the Kanpur Metro’s priority section, from IIT-Kanpur to Moti Jheel, on Friday 15^th November.

The chief minister launched the project after a “Bhoomi Pujan” at the main gate of IIT-K. One of the most ambitious projects of the industrial city, it is expected to reduce the pollution levels, officials said.

Addressing the gathering, Adityanath said metro trains will soon run in Kanpur too, adding that he has instructed the authorities to complete the first phase of the work at the earliest.

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) Managing Director Kumar Keshav said preparations have been made to build the pillar of the metro overbridge from IIT to Kalyanpur in the first phase.

The feasibility study for the project was carried out by the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) in June 2015, he said, adding that it was done to curb traffic congestion, which was hampering the growth, development, and prosperity of Kanpur.

Delhi Metro Phase-IV work to begin by November-end

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): After a delay of more than three years, the construction of Delhi Metro’s Phase IV project is finally going to start by the end of this month.

The first civil contract of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) Phase-IV project has been awarded for the construction of a portion of the Janakpuri West-R K Ashram Marg corridor, which is an extension of Magenta Line (Botanical Garden-Janakpuri West).

The contract includes the construction of a portion of the corridor, with 10 stations Keshopur, Paschim Vihar, Peeragarhi, Mangolpuri, West Enclave, Pushpanjali, Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Prashant Vihar, and North Pitampura. This was also the first Phase IV tender to be floated by DMRC.

“The given work involves design and construction of the elevated viaduct, elevated ramp, siding line, and station buildings,” a DMRC spokesperson said.

The 28.9km-long Janakpuri West-R K Ashram Marg corridor, Phase IV’s longest, will come up with 22 stations. The Phase-IV project comprises six corridors with a combined length of nearly 104 kilometers. While the Delhi government had approved all the six proposed corridors in December last year, three priority corridors 61.6 kilometers were approved by the Centre in March this year, including the Janakpuri West RK Ashram Marg.

The other two corridors are Aerocity-Tughlakabad (20.2 km) and Majlis Park-Maujpur (12.5 km). “At present, Delhi Metro is engaged in the preparatory work for the priority corridors of Phase-IV, under which 46 stations will be constructed,” the spokesperson said. “These new sections will provide interconnectivity among the already operational sections of Delhi Metro,” he said.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started selling entry tickets for India International Trade Fair (IITF) from today at 66 selected metro stations. Trade fair tickets for both business and general days can be purchased from Customer Care Centres of these metro stations from 8 am to 4 pm.

However, at Indraprastha, I.T.O and Mandi House, tickets would be sold from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm only.”Tickets can be purchased from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on all stations except Indraprastha, ITO and Mandi House, where they would be available from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm,” DMRC tweeted.

1)The tickets for business days will be available from 14th November to 19th November and for general public days from 19th November to 27th November.

2) No ITTF tickets will be available for sale at Pragati Maidan metro station this year.

3) For business days visitors, the tickets will be priced at ₹500. For general public visitors, tickets will be available at ₹60 for adults and ₹40 for children on weekdays. On weekends or holidays, the rates will increase to ₹120 for adults and ₹60 for children.

4) To cater to the rush during the IITF, additional ticketing counters, guards, officers, and staff will be deployed at the Pragati Maidan metro station and other stations as required.

Coaches on older Delhi metro lines to be fitted with new seats, digital screens

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): With the renovation of stations on the Red Line has begun, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to also refurbish the train coaches used in the line.

The interiors of the coaches would be brought on a par with that of coaches used in the new metro lines, such as the Magenta and Pink lines. This will also be done for the other older lines, including the Blue Line, with the coaches getting new seats and digital screens.

The Red Line coaches were procured in 2002 and have completed more than 15 years of their 30-year life cycle. “The contract of 70 trains of four-coach formation, with a total of 280 coaches, is now prepared for a major overhaul as part of the mid-life refurbishment.

All will be provided with a fresh layer of special water-base paint,” a DMRC spokesperson told.

The refurbishment will include floor repair and replacement, gangway overhauling, and secondary suspension replacement, with the work estimated to be completed in 20-24 months. “Forty of the coaches need major attention to their floor. The same is being planned with the help of the original car builder. There are a total of 420 number of gangways (partition area between two coaches) in 70 trains”.

All of these will go for overhauling, which includes 100 percent fabric/bellow replacement, and cleaning to provide a smooth ride to passengers,” the official added. “There are a total of 1,120 secondary suspensions in 70 trains. All these suspensions are planned to be replaced.”

Meanwhile, the DMRC will start selling India International Trade Fair entry tickets for the Business Days (November 14 to 18) and General Public Days (November 19 to 27). The tickets will be available at 66 select metro stations.

DMRC awards contract for Phase IV network

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): On Wednesday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that the first civil contract of the Phase IV network has been awarded for construction of a segment of the Janakpuri West-R.K. Ashram Marg corridor.

The corridor is set to be an extension of the existing Magenta Line, which connects Janakpuri West and Botanical Garden.

A DMRC official said that “The contract includes the construction of a portion of the Janakpuri West-R.K. Ashram Marg corridor with 10 stations, including Keshopur, Paschim Vihar, Peeragarhi, Mangolpuri, West Enclave, Pushpanjali, Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Prashant Vihar, and North Pitampura”.

The three approved corridors will add above 61 km to the existing DMRC network.

According to the statement, “The new metro lines shall be constructed across three different corridors comprising 45 metro stations. These new sections shall provide interconnectivity among the already operational sections of Delhi Metro”.

MMRDA-owned corporation likely to operate Navi Mumbai Metro

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): The Navi Mumbai Metro operations and maintenance are likely to be taken over by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) owned Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) after no bidders responded to the tender for operating and maintaining the line.

MMMOCL was set up only to operate the Metro rail network in Mumbai and Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Officials said the matter was being considered and the decision was not final yet.

On September 12 by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis the Navi Mumbai Metro line connects Belapur-Pendhar and was flagged off. As the nodal agency for the 11-station project, the City and Industrial Development Corporation took over the construction cost of Rs 3,064 crore.

The official said, “CIDCO had floated a tender, but even after several extensions no bidder has shown interest to operate and maintain the Metro line. The plan is now to give it to MMRDA-owned MMMOCL,” said an official. However, as MMMOCL has a manpower crunch and staff hiring is going on, it will take two to three months to take a final call in the matter.

“The plan is in a very initial stage but CIDCO and MMMOCL are very positive about it. However, talks are still going on in what ratio revenue will be shared, as CIDCO had borne the cost of the project”, said by a very senior officer from MMRDA.

“It was good to give the operation and maintenance to a firm which is government-owned and specially dedicated to operating Metro corridors, rather than giving a contract to a private company which will take more time and also cost more”, said by CIDCO sources.

Talks with CIDCO are going on about taking over Navi Mumbai Metro operations, but the plan is in a very initial stage and as CIDCO had spent more than Rs 3,000 crores, we have to see how revenue will be shared, said by Joint project director and spokesperson, MMRDA, Dilip Kavathkar.
