HYDERABAD, (Metro Rail News): Warangal Metro Neo Project is gaining pace as the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Metro Neo proposed for Warangal city will be submitted soon to the State Cabinet for approval.

The Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) has appointed the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) to conduct a feasibility study to prepare a DPR for the Warangal Metro Neo Project. Subsequently, the Maha Metro prepared a DPR for the project and submitted it to the KUDA.

The Warangal Metro Neo will consist of 15.5 km long corridor out of which 8.4 km will be an elevated portion while 7.1 km will be at ground level. The project will have 21 stations with 12 at elevated level and 9 at ground level.

The metro neo line will run from Kazipet to Warangal Bus Station via the District Police Office (DPO) junction. It will have advanced signalling and telecommunications systems and will be equipped with Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system.

Metro Neo is a Mass Rapid Transit System that aims to provide safe, comfortable, reliable and energy efficient transportation services to the commuters. It has cost advantage as well as lighter and smaller in comparison to regular metro systems and is particularly suited for Tier-2 & Tier-3 cities.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Growever Infra Pvt Ltd emerged as the lowest bidder for the work of the final Alignment design including the Aerial LiDAR survey and other related works for Varanasi-Howrah High-Speed Rail Corridor (about 760 kms. long).

Growever Infra Pvt Ltd quoted the price of INR 14.05 crore for the contract which was the lowest amongest the four bidders including Growever Infra.

LiDAR survey (Light Detection and Ranging) is a technique in which laser enabled equipment is mounted on a helicopter or plane to carry out ground survey. This technology gives accurate survey data and findings in less time.

Name of Work – Final Alignment design including Aerial LiDAR survey and other related works for Varanasi-Howrah High Speed Rail Corridor (about 760 kms. long).

National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) had invited bids for this work on 20th January 2021 with a completion period of 150 days and estimated cost of INR 17.56 crore. Technical bids for the tender opened in March which revealed six bidders. Two bidders did not qualify the technical evaluation round. Financial bids opened on 9th April which reveal name of four bidders.

Financial bid values of four bidders are –

  • SECON Private Limited – INR 16.59 crore
  • Monarch Surveyors and Engineering Consultants. Pvt. Ltd – INR 17.04 crore
  • RITES Limited – INR 16.29 crore
  • Growever Infra Pvt Ltd – INR 14.05 crore

Aerial LiDAR survey has already started for the 865 km long Delhi-Varanasi High Speed Rail in January 2021 and also recently in March for the 741 km long Mumbai-Nagpur High Speed Rail.

Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1 under Phase-1 consist of elevated corridor of length of 11.1 Km from Belapur to Pendhar with 11 stations namely – Belapur terminal, RBI Colony, Belapada, Utsav Chowk, Kendriya Vihar,  Kharghar Village, Central Park, Pethpada, Amandoot, Pethali Taloja and Pendhar.

CIDCO has appointed Maha Metro to complete the remaining work of Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1 which has already been delayed due to multiple reasons.

According to CIDCO officials, the commercial operation between station 7-11 (Central Park to Pendhar) and between station 1-6 (Belapur to Kharghar sector 14) is scheduled tentatively by the end of December 2021 and December 2022 respectively after seeking certification from Commissioner, Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).

Recent Update on Project

Work is going on at full swing for the Delhi-Merrut RRTS. Recently, track laying work has been started on the corridor by NCRTC. This semi high-speed rail line’s ballastless and ballasted track work has been assigned to Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in October 2020. As per NCRTC, viaduct of 4 km stretch has been completed so far.

The Delhi–Meerut RRTS is a semi-high speed rail corridor of length 82.15 km connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut. It will have 22 stations. Once completed, the distance between Delhi and Meerut will be covered in less than an hour with trains operating on the route at top speed of 180 km per hour.

Priority section of 17 km length between Sahibabad and Duhai is expected to become operational by March 2023 while the whole corridor is expected to become operational by 2025.

Dhaka Metro awarded Design Contract for Line-5 South to Egis Led Consortium

DHAKA (Metro Rail News): Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has awarded the Design Contract for Line-5 South to the Consortium of Egis, SMEC and OCG for the Dhaka Metro Rail Project.

The Line-5 South of Dhaka Metro comprises construction of 17.4 Km long corridor which includes 4.6 km of elevated section from Aftabnagar Center to Balirpar and 12.8 km of underground section from Gabtoli to Aftabnagar West with a total of 14 stations on the route.

The Dhaka Metro is funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Ministry of Road Transport & Bridges of. On completion, this line will a daily ridership of nearly a million passengers and travel time between Gabtoli and Balirpar will be reduced to 30 minutes.

The three years project is divided into three distinct phases –

  • Review and revision of the feasibility study during nine months.
  • Detailed design of the civil engineering and systems up to the DCE for fifteen months.
  • Assistance in the evaluation of bids and in the selection of builders

As per the Contract, Egis teams will be in charge of project management, architecture and technical trades for all stations, civil engineering for the underground stations and the design of almost all the rail systems.

At present, work is progressing on Dhaka Metro Line-6 from Uttara Terminal to Kamalapur Railway Station with a route length of 20.1 km which is expected to become operational next year. 

This is the first contract of Egis in Bangladesh and the company is already involve in many infrastructure projects in India including metro projects in Chennai, Kolkata, Nagpur, Kochi etc.

BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): Karnataka Government on Friday has appointed Rakesh Singh, an IAS officer from
the 1989 batch, as the Managing Director (MD) of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL).

The office of MD becomes vacant after the appointment of Ajay Seth, the predecessor of Rakesh Singh, as Secretary of Economic Affairs by the Central government on Tuesday.
Ajay Seth served for 30 months as MD of BMRCL.
Rakesh Singh is also the Additional Chief Secretary of Water Resources Department and working as the Administrator of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Ajay Seth played an imperative role in fast-tracking the metro project in the city by setting strict guidelines for each corridor along with monthly monitoring of civil work progress. He also sorted out land acquisition issues for the project. He is instrumental in completing many works for the city metro including the last inauguration of 6.29 km stretch of Green line from
Yelachenahalli to Silk Institute in January 2021.

Now Rakesh Singh will have the responsibility to look after the next phase of construction of Bangalore Metro.

Mumbai Metro Line-5 gets CRZ clearance from Maharashtra SEIAA

MUMBAI, (Metro Rail News): Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) Metro Line-5 has been granted Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) clearance by Maharashtra State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA). It was granted during the 217th meeting of the SEIAA.

Line-5 of Mumbai Metro is a 24.9 km-long Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan elevated corridor in the eastern suburbs. The corridor will have 17 stations and the project is expected to cost INR 8,417 crores. Earlier, Maharashtra State Coastal Zone Management Authority has recommended granting CRZ clearance to this line.

The Metro alignment of Line-5 passes through two water bodies at Kasheli Bridge in Thane and Durgadi Fort in Kalyan.  Some portions of the alignment pass through CRZ-I, II & III notified areas in Thane and Kalyan. Some portions of the alignment will also pass through the Ulhas river.

This CRZ clearance will give way to MMRDA to erect 156 piers in CRZ notified areas to build the elevated corridor which will be integrated with Metro Line-4 at Kapurbawdi.

According to Dr. Sonia Sethi, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner and Project Director MUTP, MMRDA, “The SEIAA has accorded CRZ clearance to Metro Line 5 subject to certain conditions, such as necessary approvals from the MoEFCC and the Bombay High Court for mangrove areas affected.”

MMRDA has sought the MoEFCC (Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change) approval to divert a total of 2349.5 sqm of mangrove forest land for the project which is still awaited before construction work can be initiated.

The stations on the line includes Kapurbawdi, Balkum Naka, Kasheli, Kalher, Purna, Anjur Phata, Dhamankar Naka, Bhiwandi, Gopal Nagar, Temghar, Rajnouli Village, Govegaon MIDC, Kongaon, Durgadi Fort, Sahajanand Chowk and Kalyan APMC. The project got approval from Maharashtra Government in October 2017. According to MMRDA, Metro Line-5 is expected to become operational by December 2024.

Kochi Water Metro to start operations by the end of this month

KOCHI, (Metro Rail News): In a major development to the city of Kochi Metro, KMRL (Kochi Metro Rail Limited) will begin operations of the first set of boats under the Kochi Water Metro Project on the Vyttila-Kakkanad route by the end of this month.

Last week, the first boat for the project was launched by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). A total of 23 boats will be built by CSL for the project with each boat can accommodate 100 passengers.

In February 2021, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the first route (Vyttila-Kakkanad) and terminal buildings of the INR 747 crore Kochi Water Metro Project. It will serve as a feeder service connecting islands and city suburbs such as Vypeen, Willingdon Island, Edakochi, Kumbalam, Nettoor, Vyttila, Eloor, Kakkanad, Bolgatti and Mulavukad.

As per Alkesh Kumar Sharma, whose term as Managing Director of KMRL ended on Wednesday, “The work on boats, pontoons, terminals, signalling and telecommunication and all related packages have been progressing well. The operations on the first route, Vyttila to Kakkanad, will start by the end of this month”.

The project is funded by KfW, a German Development Bank. It will comprise of 38 stations in 15 routes with total distance of 78.6 Km. The boats will be air-conditioned with service of Wi-Fi along with latest safety and communication devices.
The boats will also be environment friendly using green energy for its operation.

GREATER NOIDA, (Metro Rail News): The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is exploring different unconventional metro modes to provide faster and smooth connectivity for Noida International Airport with Delhi-NCR.

As a result, YEIDA has entrusted the task of preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) for three different unconventional metro modes to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). These three modes are Metro Lite, Metro Neo and Express Line. All three are different from each other in terms speed, cost, construction methodology etc.

According to Arun Vir Singh, CEO of YEIDA, “We got the DMRC to prepare a DPR of a metro line connecting Noida airport to Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park-II, which is a distance of approximately 35.6 km. We forwarded the DPR to the state government for necessary assessment and approval. The state government gave its observation and asked us to prepare a DPR of the three modes of connectivity. The DMRC will soon start preparing the DPR of the three models”.

DMRC proposed DPR consists of 25 stations on a stretch of 35.4 Km from Knowledge Park-2 in Greater Noida to Noida International Airport. But the State Government observed that the travel time to cover the distance was high considering the average speed of 30-35 km per hour for normal metro and also wants to reduce the number of stations to save travel time.

According to Arun Vir Singh,” The state government wants to explore the fastest mode of conveyance from Greater Noida to Noida airport. We have not fixed a deadline to ready the DPR of the three modes. The DMRC will be asked to finish and submit the report at the earliest so that we can finalise on the fastest mode of conveyance and start work without delay. We need to develop the connectivity before the airport becomes functional.”.

Arun Vir Singh further said,” The state government wants a dedicated Airport Express Line or something that will run at a speed of 90 to 110 kmph”.

YEIDA is keen to provide faster connectivity to Noida International Airport before 2024, when the airport is expected to become operational.

1st Pier Cap erected for Package DC-03R of Magenta Line extension under Phase-4 of Delhi Metro

NEW DELHI, (Metro Rail News): 1st Pier Cap was launched on Wednesday just north of Majlis Mark for the Package DC-03R of Magenta Line extension which is a part of Janakpuri West to R.K. Ashram Line (Line-8) under Phase-4 of Delhi Metro.

The contract for this package was awarded to Sam India – Gulermak JV in June 2020 with value of INR 766.12 crore and completion period of 30 months. It is the third and penultimate package for Magenta Line extension from Janakpuri West to R.K. Ashram with total length 28.92 km. This line is one of the three lines approved by the Central Government with total length of 65 km under Phase-4.

Brief scope of work under Contract DC-03R – Part Design and Construction of Elevated Viaduct, Elevated Ramp, Siding lines, Viaduct for connection to Mukundpur Depot and four Elevated Stations viz. Bhalswa, Majlis Park, Azadpur and Ashok Vihar {Excluding Architectural Finishing works, Steel FOB (except at Ashok Vihar station which is including) & PEB works of stations} from Chainage 15206.166 m to 22680.000 m of Janakpuri West to R.K. Ashram Corridor (Extn. Of Line-8) of Phase-IV of Delhi MRTS and partly integrated and partly independent flyover of PWD between Azadpur and Derawal Nagar on G.T. Road.

The weight of pier cap is approximately 60 tons and is erected using a rolling gantry crane. A total of 306 pier caps will be erected to construct the 7.4 km long elevated viaduct from Haiderpur Badli Mor to Ashok Vihar.

About The Project

The Railway Line from Jogbani (India) to Biratnagar (Nepal) is an 18.6 km broad gauge railway line connecting Jogbani in Bihar to the industrial area of Biratnagar in Nepal at an estimated cost of INR 374 Crore.

The first phase consisting of 8 km railway line is already completed from Bathnaha to Nepal Customs point and the remaining portion of the project from Nepal Customs point to Biratnagar is expected to be completed by July 2021. Once completed, it will significantly reduce transportation costs between Nepal and Indian seaports at Kolkata and Haldia.

Bangalore Metro started trial run on Mysore Road-Kengeri Section

BENGALURU, (Metro Rail News): Banglore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has started a trial run on the Purple Line western extension from Mysore Road to Kengerion a route length of 7.5 km.

The purpose of the trail run on the section is to assess the Schedule of Dimensions i.e. the distance between the track and the nearest structure in order to ensure that there are no physical obstructions along the route when the train runs on the track. BMRCL commence trial run with a six-coach train.

As per BMRCL MD Ajay Seth, commercial operations will begin on the route from June as per schedule. This section under Reach 2A/2B (Mysore Road to Challaghatta) includes 7 elevated stations: Nayandahalli, Rajarajeshwari Nagara, Jnana Bharathi, Pattanagere, Mailasandra, Kengeri Bus Terminal and Challaghatta, with a total route length of 8.81 km. The last station Challaghatta which lies across NICE Peripheral Road, is expected to become operational by March 2022.

The contract for this section of Purple Line western extension is awarded in two parts. Reach 2A section of 3.94 km from Mysore Road to Pattanagere was awarded to IL&FS Company for four stations at INR 327 crore and Reach 2B from Pattanagere to Challaghatta of 4.86 km to Soma Enterprise at INR 332 crore. At the same time, Alstom has bagged the contract for the supply of electrification and signalling works. Once operational, this section will reduce the travel journey time between Mysore Road and Kengeri to 15 minutes and with an expected daily ridership of 75,000 passengers on the section.
