Jaipur Metro to resume services from September 23 onwards

JAIPUR (Metro Rail News): After more than five months, Jaipur Metro services will resume from September 23 onwards. The train will be operational on the entire stretch from Chandpole to Baddi Chaupar. The newly constructed underground corridor will be inaugurated by chief minister Ashok Gehlot around noon. Before operations were closed due to lockdown, only phase-I (Mansarovar to Chandpole) was open.

“The operations will start around 3 pm. The ministry of housing and urban affairs and ministry of railways have allowed the Metro to operate in a calibrated manner. We will follow the same protocol”, said an official.

To ensure social distancing, suitable markings at stations and inside trains will be done. Wearing masks will mandatory for all passengers and staff. “Unlike other cities, Jaipur Metro does not have huge ridership. Provisions such as sitting on alternate seats will be made. But there will be no requirement to skip stations in containment zones,” He added.

PM to inaugurate Kosi Rail Mahasetu via Video-conferencing today

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation the historic Kosi Rail Mahasetu to the Nation through video-conference at 12 Noon today. Apart from this, the Prime Minister shall also inaugurate 12 rail projects related to passenger facilities for the benefit of Bihar.

These include a new railway bridge on the Kiul River, two new railway lines, 5 Electrification projects, one Electric Locomotive Shed and 3rd Line Project between Barh-Bakhtiyarpur.In 1887, a meter gauge link was built in between Nirmali and Bhaptiahi (Saraigarh). During the heavy flood and severe Indo Nepal earthquake in 1934, the rail link was washed away and thereafter due to meandering nature of river Kosi no attempt was made to restore this Rail link for long period.

The Kosi Mega Bridge line project was sanctioned by Government of India during 2003-04. The Kosi Rail Mahasetu is 1.9 KM long and its construction cost is Rs. 516 Crore. This bridge is of strategic importance along the India-Nepal border. The project was completed during the COVID – 19 Pandemic where the migrant labour also participated in its completion.

Kochi Metro to participate in The Fit India Freedom run

KOCHI (Metro Ril News):The Kochi Metro Rail Limited has decided to participate in the Government of India’s Initiative of Fit India Freedom Run”, it said in a statement. About 600 numbers of KMRL Employees are going to participate in the two-week-long events. The employees are divided into four groups and they will participate in Cycling, Running and Walking.

“The initiative is to encourage fitness and help all to get freedom from obesity, laziness, stress, anxiety, diseases etc, duly understanding the importance of fitness in the pandemic time’, the KMRL said. The event is planned to be conducted among KMRL Employees starting from 15.09.2020 to 02.10.2020.

The employees will be participating in the Fit India Freedom Run at their own place / facility and at convenient time from the 15th to 30th Sept 2020. NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): As many as 20 global and domestic companies including France-based Socié té Nationale des Chemins de Fer (SNCF), Arabian Construction Company, Anchorage Infrastructure, GMR, Adani Group, JKB Infrastructure have evinced interest to redevelop and transform the New Delhi railway station. The project is a part of the national transporter’s ambitious asset monetization programme.

The project would be developed on a public private partnership (PPP) model, with a concession period of 60 years.

Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), a statutory body under the ministry of railways on Monday said it held a pre-bid meeting on the redevelopment of the railway station, which saw ‘enthusiastic participation’ by 20 national and international firms.

The phased redevelopment will include station redevelopment, development of associated infrastructure, relocation of social infrastructure as well as the refurbishment of railway offices and railway quarters. New Delhi railway station is the largest and second busiest railway station in India. It handles approximately 4.5 lakh passengers daily. The station handles around 400 trains per day.

“Food courts and restrooms, an elevated concourse with segregation of arriving and departing passengers, refurbished platforms with easy access from the concourse level, mezzanine level exclusively for passenger facilities such as lounges, an elevated road network with multiple entry and exit points, a multi-level car parking facility and green building provisions, such as optimum use of natural ventilation and lighting will be some of the key highlights of the redeveloped station,” said a statement.

The project will also include commercial ventures such as office, five-star hotels, budget hotels and serviced apartments on approximately 30 acres of land. There is also a plan to set up a business district on the outer circle of Connaught Place and near Bhavabhuti Marg. The station will be integrated with the Delhi Metro.

Madhya Pradesh Government to form a Metropolitan Area

BHOPAL (Metro Rail News): The State Cabinet of Madhya Pradesh has decided to form a Metropolitan area (Mahanagar Kshetra) for the implementation of the metro rail project in Bhopal and Indore cities. Bhopal Metropolitan Area will include Bhopal Investment  Area and Mandideep Investment Area. Mhow Investment Area and Pithampur Investment Area have been added in Indore Metropolitan Area.

The Cabinet approved a project related to developing a new industrial area in the Indore-Pithampur Investment Region. Under the project, the Pithampur Industrial Investment Sector 4 and 5 will be developed in two phases at a cost of Rs 550 crore on 586.70 hectares of land.

The Cabinet has also approved the proposal related to allotment of 7.902 hectare land for the construction of a stadium in Gwalior for disabled boys and girls.

Around 3 lakh Commuters use DMRC Network on Tuesday

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Since the resumption of full DMRC services post-169-day hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, around 2.5 lakh commuters used the Delhi Metro services till late evening on Monday, the first working day. On Saturday, the DMRC had gone back to its schedule as it was before the metro rail operations were suspended on 22 March 2020 to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.

The three main corridors – Red Line, Yellow Line, Blue Line and Blue Line branch had a ridership of 29,394 commuters, 76,266 commuters, 67,114 commuters and 7,908 commuters respectively. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has also been reaching out to Delhi Metro commuters through social media to inform them that the services of peak hours are now available in non-peak hours as well. The peak hours of Delhi Metro are from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In order to facilitate passengers, a headway of 2 minutes 45 seconds to 6 minutes will be maintained from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

In a first, railways announces 40 clone trains

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The ministry of railways on Tuesday announced it will deploy 20 pairs of ‘clone special trains’ from September 21, in addition to the 310 special trains operating currently. This is the first time when clone trains will be deployed on the railway’s network. The reservation for these trains will begin from September 19. This is the first time when clone trains will be deployed on the rail network. Earlier this month, the ministry had announced the deployment of ‘clone trains’ on routes where the occupancy is more depending on the waitlist for the trains.

The clone trains are based on the operation of special trains that are already running but with limited stoppages and faster transit time.

“Considering the huge demand for travel on specific routes, the Ministry of Railways has decided to run 20 pairs of Clone Special trains. These trains will run on notified timings and will be fully reserved trains.

The stoppages shall be limited to operational halts,” the ministry said in a statement.

“The clone trains will be operationalized on the routes having high patronage and demand. Clone trains have not been operated by the Indian Railways in the past. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train may reach Delhi

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The bullet train from Mumbai moved ahead on Tuesday with the National High-Speed Railway Corporation extending the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train all the way to Delhi and also adding seven new corridors, including two from Mumbai – one to Hyderabad and another to Nagpur.

However, the current Maharashtra government has taken a stand that they will review the existing Mumbai-Ahmedabad project as well as a part of the wider audit of infrastructure projects.

The NHSRCL is in the process of preparation of a Detailed Project Report for new high-speed rail corridors and we have let out an assignment for data collection and associated survey work for the Delhi-Jaipur-Udaipur-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor which will be approximately 886 km,” an official said.

“The tracks alignment of the proposed corridor has been planned within and/or along the existing/planned Highway/Expressway and Railways land, keeping in view the speed and constructability requirements. The expected path of the mainline (excluding facilities) will be approximately 17.5 m (± 5 m) depending on the project requirement,” he added.

“The Detailed Project Report (DPR) will basically identify crossings (existing and proposed) along existing rail lines, road and rivers, heritage structures on the way and historical monuments, tombs, ASI sites along with religious structures, etc. It will also be important to collect hydrological data for water bodies, rainfall, and other geotechnical data”, he added.

The plan is also to carry out a ridership study to assess the existing traffic characteristics, assessment on the proposed alignment, station and section loads with Peak Hour Peak Direction Traffic (PHPDT) and demand projection phase-wise to be done for the base year, the first year of operation and 20 years beyond that.

In addition to this, seven new HSR corridors in India, including two new from Mumbai have been planned, which include Delhi-Varanasi (865km), Mumbai-Nagpur (753km), Delhi-Ahmedabad (886km), Chennai-Mysore (435km), Delhi-Amritsar (459km), Mumbai-Hyderabad (711km) and Varanasi-Howrah (760km)

KMRL’s Water Metro gets a push

KOCHI (Metro Rail News): Kochi Metro Rail Limited on Wednesday kicked off the construction activities at eight more terminals of Kochi Water Metro by starting the piling work at Eloor.
The Eight terminals in the new package are Eloor, Cheranelloor, South Chittoor, Ferry at Cochin Port Trust, Kumbalam, Kadamakkudy, Mulavukadu North and Paliyamthuruthu. Kochi Metro Rail Limited MD Alkesh Kumar Sharma IAS attended the ground breaking ceremony at Eloor along with senior officials of KMRL.
”The construction of Terminals are progressing at various locations. The new eight terminals will ensure connectivity between rural parts of Kochi and the mainland. The construction of these terminals will be completed in early 2021 in a time-bound manner”, Mr Sharma said.
Approximate size of each terminal is about 2500 sq ft. Terminals are planned with all modern facilities for the passengers. The construction of all these Eight terminals is entrusted with Kool Homes Builders, Kochi after following due tender process. With this total number of terminals under construction will be 16. 

Silver Line is the latest line of Delhi Metro

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday announced new line numbers and colour codes of three priority corridors of Phase IV of the metro extension.
The metro line from Tughlakabad to Aerocity, Line 10, will be the Silver Line along with Majilis Park to Maujpur, Line 7, will be the Pink Line, and Janakpuri West to Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Line 8, will be the Magenta Line extension.
“The line number and colour code of the three priority corridors of Phase IV have been assigned. Tughlakabad – Aerocity (line 10) will be Silver Line, Majlis Park – Maujpur (line 7) is Pink Line Extension, and Janakpuri West – RK Ashram (line 8) is Magenta Line Extension,” the DMRC tweeted on Wednesday, with the hashtag ‘#Ontothefourth’.

“Silver has been selected as the colour code for the Tughlakabad – Aerocity Metro corridor of Phase 4. There is no specific rule to decide the colour code of a line. However, easily distinguishable colours which can be remembered by the commuters are generally selected. This section is the 10th line to get a colour code. The Majlis Park – Maujpur corridor is an extension of the Pink Line and will have the same colour code while the Janakpuri West –  RK Ashram Marg corridor will be an extension of the Magenta line with the same colour code”, said Mr Anuj Dayal, Executive Director of Corporate Communications at DMRC.

The Delhi Metro, which had suspended its services in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak, reopened in a staggered manner on September 7, putting into place a series of measures such as closed token counters, limited entry and exit points, thermal scanners, and sanitisers among others mesures to make the travel on its network Covid Resistant. 

Survey Bids open for Mumbai – Nagpur High-Speed Rail

NAGPUR (Metro Rail News): National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) today invited bids for the preparatory survey work to develop the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the upcoming 741 km Mumbai – Nasik – Nagpur High-Speed Rail project in Maharashtra.

This is going to be the third of its kind in India after the 865 km Delhi – Varanasi High-Speed Rail Line and 886 km Delhi – Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Line for which basic preliminary work has commenced to start construction on the project.

The Scope of the work includes Survey, Identification of Overhead, Over Ground, Underground Utilities and Identification Of Power Sourcing Options for substations along The Proposed Mumbai- Nasik-Nagpur High-Speed Rail Corridor. The bidding documents can be obtained from the official website. 12 new stations are tentatively planned to be built at Shahapur, Igatputi, Nasik, Shirdi, Aurangabad, Jalna, Mehkar, Malegaon Jahangir, Karanja Lad, Pulgaon, Wardha and Nagpur are going to be there on this corriddor.

BMRCL Invites PMC Bids for Bangalore Metro’s ORR – Airport Line

BANGLORE (Metro Rail News): Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) on Monday invited tenders (bids) to appoint a Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the civil construction works of Bangalore Metro’s 55 km Line-5 (Blue Line) which is going to connect Silkboard – KR Puram – Bengaluru International Airport through 30 stations on the Outer Ring Road and NH-44. BMRCL has so far utilized their in-house project management team for the 73.92 km Phase 2 project’s construction and has not appointed General Consultants either.

But with this massive new line about to be built as part of the 18.236 km Phase 2Aand 36.511 km Phase 2B projects, they’re now seeking external PMC support through funding backed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) which, after their Management Review Meeting on September 10, is expected to approve a $500 million loan soon.

The project with Tender No: BMRCL/Phase-2A & 2B/Via & Stns /PMC/2020/72 has been released for the Civil construction works of Metro Corridor from Central Silk Board Junction to Kempegowda International Airport of Bengaluru Metro Rail Project Phase 2A & 2B.

Financial bids for Phase 2A’s construction are still yet to be opened (technical bids were opened in March to reveal 9 bidders for two packages), while the last date to submit bids for Phase 2B’s construction was recently extended up to October 16.
