CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Shri M.K. Stalin informed the state assembly that the central government had given its approval for the phase II project of the Metro Rail.
“We received information yesterday that the Union government had given its permission for the phase II project,” Stalin said.
The Union government approval came after he insisted on meeting Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in New Delhi. “I had spoken about the metro project to him in detail. So, it was the pressure that made us get permission from the union government yesterday,” said CM, Tamil Nadu.
During his speech at the state assembly, CM said that the government was getting the nod for the metro project in Coimbatore. Stalin’s remarks came after Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Smt.
Vanathi Srinivasan asked why the state government would implement the Coimbatore metro rail project only after consulting with the Centre.
In that question, Stalin answered, “Apart from Coimbatore, a project has been announced in Madurai. These projects can be implemented only after getting approval from the Union government. Wherever the projects are announced, they will be implemented definitely.”
Stalin said the government has also announced metro rail for Madurai and will urge the centre for the project in Coimbatore as well

NAGPUR (Metro Rail News): Chief Minister Shri. Uddhav Thackeray (through video link), Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri. Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri. Hardeep Singh Puri (through video link) will inaugurate the Sitabuldi – Zero Mile Freedom Park – Kasturchand Park of Nagpur Metro and Freedom Park on Friday, August 20. The inaugural function will begin at 12.30 pm at Zero Mile Freedom Park metro station, Civil Lines.
The Zero Mile Freedom Park and Kasturchand Park stations will also be inaugurated on the occasion. Government of Maharashtra’s cabinet ministers Dr Nitin Raut (Energy), Shri Eknath Shinde (Urban Development) and Shri Sunil Kedar (Animal Husbandry) will be prominently present in the function. The union minister of state for housing and urban affairs, Shri Kaushal Kishore will address the gathering through vide link.
All the public representatives of the district will be prominently present in the inaugural function. SITABULDI – KASTURCHAND PARK SECTION
Although the length of the Sitabuldi – Kasturchand Park section is only 1.6 km, it’s the most important stretch of Nagpur Metro. It connects and provides access to the most important monuments and establishments of the city namely Vidhan Sabha – the busiest area of the city during the winter session, Reserve Bank of India, Central Museum, Samvidhan Square and Morris College. It also provides connectivity to the prime commercial area of Sadar Bazar, which houses several shops, restaurants, offices, hotels, etc.

ZERO MILE STATION
Zero Mile station is one of the most iconic and unique structure of Nagpur Metro Project. It is the first station of its kind in the country which has been designed as a 20-storey building with trains passing through its 4th floor.
The building has two basement levels for parking exclusively. The building above the 4th floor where the platforms are located will have commercial development on PPP basis.
An innovative step by way of deploying ‘Floating Track Slab Technology’ will help in mitigation of noise and vibration caused by the metro. This also makes the Zero Mile Freedom Park station, a one-of-its-kind in the country.
KASTURCHAND PARK STATION
The architecture and façade of the Kasturchand Park station is inspired by the Kasturchand Park, which is a classic example of traditional Indian Rajput architecture. Symbolic elements of the Rajput Architecture like Chhatri, Torana, Rajput Jaali, Motifs on columns and brackets have been incorporated to create a new landmark in the city and to pay homage to this heritage monument and act as a complimenting structure.
FREEDOM PARK
To commemorate the 75th year of country’s Independence, about 40,000 square feet area surrounding Zero Mile station has been converted into public park named ‘Freedom Park’ and station is now named as ‘Zero Mile Freedom Park.’ The very aesthetically done park is a perfect example of urban landscaping which comprises of urban public plazas connecting the heritage precincts and event spaces with a careful streetscape, markers like the History Wall, War Trophy – T55 Battle Tank, totem poles and plaza entrance areas. The landscaping also comprises of wayfinding and subtle branding spaces and colour and theme-based planting.
Upon entering the Freedom Park from the southern gate, one is welcomed by landscaped tree bosque plaza right in the front. One has the magnificent view of the expansive amphitheatre on the left, the History Wall which continues up to the Shahid Smarak laying a perfect setting for display of events of freedom struggle in form of a timeline and the War Trophy of T-55 Indian Army Battle Tank – standing proudly opposite to it on a raised pedestal.
Commercial service on Sitabuldi – Kasturchand Park stretch of Orange Line from 3 pm on 20 Aug 2021
Commercial service will start on Sitabuldi – Zero Mile Freedom Park – Kasturchand Park section of Orange Line from 3 pm on Friday, August 20. The section will be inaugurated by dignitaries at 12.30 pm.
Commercial services are running on existing stretch of Orange Line (Sitabuldi to Khapri) from 8 am and 8 pm. Services on Aqua Line (Sitabuldi to Lokmanya Nagar) are on from 6.30 am to 8 pm.
Trains from Khapri will now terminate at Kasturchand Park instead of Sitabuldi. Similarly, trains for Khapri will depart from the new station instead of Sitabuldi.
NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has recently opened financial bids for the work related to remodelling and augmentation of Mukundpur Metro for Line 7 and Line 8 under Phase-4 of Delhi Metro in which Himcon Engineers emerged as the lowest bidder.
DMRC invited for this work in March this year with an estimated cost of INR 71.37 Crores and completion period of 30 months. In June, technical bids were opened for this work which revealed name of 10 bidders. This contract is related to supply and commissioning of electrical & mechanical systems including Fire detection, Fire suppression system and DG sets for Corridor-1 and Corridor-2 Elevated stations and Depot of Patna Metro Rail Project.
Bids invited for this contract by DMRC in December 2020 with an estimated cost of INR 90.82 Crores and completion period of 36 months. Technical bids were opened in February which revealed name of nine bidders. Technical bids opened in March in which Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) was the only bidder and as a single bidder quoted financial bid value of INR 8.91 Crores.

As the bid value of Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) is slightly on the higher side in comparison to DMRC estimated cost, it is still likely that after some negotiation, DMRC will award this contract to JSPL in the coming weeks.
KOCHI (Metro Rail News): In a recent order, the Government of Kerala assigned Shri Loknath Behra (IPS Batch 1985) as the new Managing Director (MD) of Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. (KMRL). The decision to appoint Behra, a retired IPS officer, at the post of MD was taken during a cabinet meeting held on 17th August 2021. He will have the charge for three years.
Behra has taken over the post on 18th August 2021 from the outgoing MD Shri K.R Jyothilal, Principal Secretary to the Government of Kerala. Jyothilal was holding the charge of MD, Kochi Metro in additional capacity.
Loknath Behra commenced his bureaucratic career in the state police from the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) post. He has also served our country in various positions, including Superintendent of Police (SP) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Commissioner of Police in Kochi and Deputy Commissioner of Police in Thiruvananthapuram.
In 2009, he had also served in National Investigation Agency (NIA) and was one of the founder members of the agency. Behra also received a President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2009. On 30th June 2021, Behra retired from the police service.

Tenders for both these contracts were invited in February this year with completion period of 48 months. Now bids for these contracts will be sent for technical evaluation which will take a couple of months. After that, financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened which will reveal the name of the lowest bidders and the most likely winners of these contracts. Both these contracts will be funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Line-4 of Chennai Metro Rail Project under Phase-2 comprises construction of 26.1 km long corridor connecting Light House with Poonamallee with 28 stations on the route. The corridor will be both elevated and underground (18 elevated & 10 underground stations) with 16.03 km will be elevated while 10.07 km to be underground.
NAGPUR (Metro Rail News): Nagpur Metro has informed that commuters who have taken both doses of Covid-19 vaccination will only be allowed to travel by Metro.
“It is for the information of the General Public that as per orders issued by Competent Authority, employees and officials associated with providing medical and essential services and only those who have been vaccinated with both the Covid protection doses and have taken the second dose 14 days back, are eligible for travel by metro,” as said by Nagpur Metro.
Nagpur Metro also stated that the eligible commuters would have to give proof of two doses of vaccination to the Maha Metro staff at the Metro Station.
These instructions have been implemented on both – Aqua and Orange Lines of Nagpur Metro and to come into effect from 15th August 2021.
The Orange Line at present connects Sitabuldi with Khapri for a total length of 13.5 km with 11 stations on the route while the Aqua Line at present connects Sitabuldi with Lokmanya Nagar for a total length of 11 km with 11 stations on the route.
NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made an announcement on 15th August that 75 Vande Bharat Trains will be launched to connect different parts of the country by August 2023 to mark the ongoing ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.’
“The country has resolved that 75 Vande Bharat trains will be connecting every corner of the country in 75 weeks of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence,” the Prime Minister said.
Indian Railways is planning to roll out atleast 10 new Vande Bharat Trains connecting 40 cities by August 2022. For achieving the same, Medha Servo Drives Ltd has been told to advance its production plan so that at least two prototypes can be rolled out by March next year following all trials. Medha Servo had won the contract worth INR 2,211 Crores to supply the electrical systems for 44 Vande Bharat Trains in January this year.
Regarding Railway connectivity in North East India, PM Modi said, “Today, we are in the process of writing a new history as far as connectivity to the northeast is concerned. This connectivity is both between hearts and infrastructure. Very soon the job of connecting the capital cities of the northeastern states by rail will be completed.”
Vande Bharat Train is India’s first semi-high speed train with potential to completely change the travel experience for the Indian masses. It is a self-propelled trains which runs on distributed power mechanism and does not require an engine to haul them. As a result, the Vande Bharat Train has faster acceleration and deceleration, helping it to maintain a higher average speed despite stoppages. This ensures that the Vande Bharat takes less time in completing its runs than ordinary loco-hauled trains and is even faster than the Rajdhani and the Shatabdi Trains, wherein time and speed are lost when a train has to stop and gather speed again.
Vande Bharat Trains has modern feature like automatic doors, chair car type sitting, side destination boards, automatic intercommunication door, speakers, mobile and laptop charging sockets, CCTVs, emergency talk back units with networking system, diffused lighting for luggage racks, continuous LED lights, GPS antenna and many more other features.
At present, two Vande Bharat Trains are operational on the Indian Railway network. With a target of 75 Vande Bharat to be made operational by August 2023, Indian Railways will need to execute the contract with speed to meet the deadline.

As per tender notice, this work will be financed through equity participation of the Government of India and Government of Delhi and other appropriate means of DMRC.
Under Phase-4 of Delhi Metro, total 6 lines having length of 104 km will be constructed. Out of these 6 lines, Central Government has given approval to 3 lines (Priority Corridors) having total length of 65.1 km with 45 stations. These 3 lines are –
Magenta Line (Extension of Line-8) from Janakpuri West – R.K. Ashram (28.92 km) with 22 stations and completion target of June, 2024
Silver Line (Line-10) fromAerocity – Tughlakabad (23.62 km) with 15 stations and completion target of March, 2025
Pink Line (Extension of Line-7) fromMukundpur – Maujpur (12.55 km) with 8 stations and completion target of December, 2022.
