Double-Decker infrastructure at Mathikere

The proposed Mathikere section addresses significant space constraints in the densely built-up area between Mathikere and Yeshwanthpur, particularly along Mohan Kumar Road. The planned infrastructure uses a stacked configuration:

  • Lower level: Road flyover designed to improve local traffic movement and reduce congestion.
  • Upper level: Elevated suburban rail viaduct for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project’s Corridor-2.

The double-decker arrangement aims to accommodate both road and rail infrastructure within a constrained urban corridor.

About Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project

The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) is a proposed 148-km commuter rail network. The foundation of the project was laid by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in June 2022. It is designed to connect Bengaluru with its suburbs, satellite towns and key economic centres.

The ₹15,767 crore project is being executed by K-RIDE, a joint venture between the Ministry of Railways and the Government of Karnataka. The network aims to provide a high-frequency commuter rail system and complement Bengaluru’s existing urban transport infrastructure.
