Enhancing the capacity of existing metro corridors is essential to meet growing urban mobility demands. To accommodate these demands, the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation Limited has awarded the contract to AECOM India Pvt Ltd. in a Joint Venture with Nippon Koei India Pvt. Ltd. Chennai Metro Phase I covers a length of 45.046 km network and consists of two Corridors i.e Corridor 1 from Washermenpet to Airport and Corridor 2 from Chennai Central to St. Thomas Mount. The Phase 1 extension has 9 stations from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar.
