PUNE (Metro Rail News): Line 3 of the Pune Metro is under development by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) through a public-private partnership (PPP) with the Tata group. The development plan for line 3 included the connection of Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar. The new development plan was prepared, suggesting the extension of line 3 from Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor
The proposal was also made for the Hadapsar to Saswad road and the Race Course to Swargate metro lines. These metro lines will be 23 kilometers long.
The Divisional Commissioner of Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA) had directed in a meeting that a single agency, either PMRDA or Maha Metro, should work on the metro line extension. He suggested PMRDA to appoint a consultant to examine the viability of doing this project through a public-private partnership (PPP).
As a result, the PMDRA appointed a consultancy to examine the economic viability of these routes. The consultancy submitted the project viability report about the extension of the route to PMRDA. The reports suggested that it is viable to extend line 3 from Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor, along with Pulgate to Swargate on a PPP basis.
The Metro line is going to be extended till Loni Kalbhor. However, the government has not decided yet whether the extension should be done by PMRDA or Maha Metro. The proposal will soon be sent for approval to the state government, after which the authority to execute the extension will be decided.
