Mumbai Metro Line 9

Operational Operator: MMRDA (owner) / Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL, operator) Length: 10.5 km Since: 08/04/2026 Updated: Official site ↗

As of 19 Oct 2026, Mumbai Metro Line 9 is operational (since 8 Apr 2026). Latest news: 14 Oct 2026.

Mumbai Metro Line 9 is an elevated extension of Line 7 (Red Line) from Dahisar East to Mira Bhayandar, about 10.5 km long with 8 stations. Phase 1, from Dahisar East to Kashigaon with 4 stations, opened to passengers on 8 April 2026, the first metro in Thane district. As of October 2026 the remaining stretch to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Udyan is in final testing.

Why it matters

Line 9 is the first metro link into Mira Bhayandar and Thane district. Before it opened, commuters depended on the crowded Western Express Highway or suburban trains to reach Mumbai. Because trains run through onto Line 7, passengers from Kashigaon can ride without changing to Andheri East, where Gundavali station connects with Line 1, and change at Dahisar East for Line 2A. MMRDA's network crossed 30 crore journeys in August 2026, a rise it partly credits to Line 9 Phase 1.

Key facts

  • Operator: MMRDA (owner) / Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL, operator)
  • Length in service: 4.5 km of 10.5 km; 4 stations open and 4 under construction
  • Status (October 2026): Partially operational (October 2026). Phase 1, Dahisar East to Kashigaon (about 4.5 km, 4 stations), has carried passengers since 8 April 2026 and runs as one through service with Line 7 to Gundavali in Andheri East. Phase 2, Kashigaon to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Udyan (about 5.8 km, 4 stations), had its overhead power switched on from 29 July 2026 and signalling integration tests from 15 to 25 September 2026. It still needs CMRS approval, and MMRDA has not announced an opening date.
  • Cost: About ₹6,607 crore for Line 9 and Line 7A together (approved 2018)

Frequently asked questions

Is Mumbai Metro Line 9 open?

Partly. Phase 1, from Dahisar East to Kashigaon, has been open to passengers since 8 April 2026. The rest of the line to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Udyan in Bhayandar was still being tested in October 2026.

What is the route of Metro Line 9?

It runs from Dahisar East, where it meets Lines 2A and 7, north along the Western Express Highway and Mira Bhayandar Road to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Udyan (Stadium) in Bhayandar West.

How many stations does Line 9 have?

Eight elevated stations: Dahisar East, Pandurangwadi, Miragaon, Kashigaon, Sai Baba Nagar, Medtiya Nagar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Udyan and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Udyan.

Can I travel from Mira Road to Andheri without changing trains?

Yes. Line 9 trains run through onto Line 7, so a single train runs between Kashigaon and Gundavali in Andheri East.

When will the full Line 9 open?

MMRDA has not announced a date. Overhead power on the second phase was switched on in July 2026 and signalling integration tests ran in September 2026, but the stretch still needs trial runs and CMRS approval.

Who built and runs Line 9?

MMRDA built the line. Civil works for Line 9 and Line 7A were awarded to J Kumar Infraprojects in 2019. Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL) operates the service.
