Alstom presents APS for road, its innovative electric road solution

On the occasion of the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Sweden, Alstom presents its electric road project at the Volvo Group headquarter in Gothenburg. This innovation contributes to cleaner mobility, and broadens Alstom’s green solutions portfolio.

In partnership with Volvo Group, Alstom participates in an Electric Road Systems project initiated by the Swedish Energy Agency, adapting its APS ground-level electrification solution currently used for trams to application for road. A demonstrator designed to power electric trucks is implemented and evaluated on a Volvo Group test track in Sweden. For this project, Alstom has provided the full electrification system, including conductive power segments built into the surface of the road. Europe (particularly Sweden, Germany, UK and France) and the US are the front-runners for the implementation of electric roads.

APS is originally a dynamic feeding solution for trams, service proven in 7 networks worldwide including Bordeaux, Rio de Janeiro and Dubai, and totaling more than 30 million kilometres run. Other developments derived from APS include SRS, a system designed for the static recharge of trams and electric buses equipped with on-board energy storage. APS for road has been developed in Alstom’s sites in Vitrolles and Saint-Ouen.

Alstom has been present in Sweden since 1999 and is one of the largest players in the Swedish railway market with more than 300 trains sold. Alstom holds several large maintenance contracts, and the work is carried out in 10 depots around the country. In Motala, Alstom has its own depot for heavy maintenance and rebuilding. Alstom is currently also delivering the new standard national traffic management system to the Swedish Transport Administration, as well as signalling solutions for Tvärbanan tramway in Stockholm.

MEGA Metro | Hyundai Rotem to supply 96 metro coaches for Ahmedabad Metro

Ahmedabad: Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company Limited, the implementing agency for Ahmedabad metro rail project, has awarded the contract for manufacturing 96 metro coaches (rolling stock) to Hyundai Rotem of South Korea. The contact valued at Rs 1,025 crore was given on October 13.

MEGA had invited bids for the metro rail system’s rolling stock in January 2016 and received bids from four companies – Alstom, Bombardier, CRRC and Hyundai Rotem.

Out of these, only three were found to be substantially meeting the requirement of eligibility criteria.

CRRC, the fourth bidder, was disqualified on the grounds that the Chinese staterun company was not fulfilling the technical and financial eligibility criterion. The bidding process was delayed as CRRC took legal route challenging its disqualification by MEGA. According to an official statement issued by MEGA, the Gujarat High Court last week dismissed CRRC’s petition challenging its disqualification.

Hyundai Rotem will supply 32 three-car trainsets for Ahmedabad metro’s 39.259km phase 1 project. The trains will be manufactured at their Changwon plant and deliveries are expected to take place by next year,” the statement added.

The first phase will connect four corners of the Ahmedabad city with two corridors and 32 stations. While North-South corridor (18.522 km) will connect Motera Stadium to APMC, Vasna, the East-West corridor (20.737 km) will connect Vastral to Thaltej.

Ahmedabad’s new 2.90 meter wide trains will have a maximum speed of 80kmph and a carrying capacity for 782 passengers. It will be capable of running on the “driverless” unattended train operations (UTO) mode like the Delhi Metro’s new RS-10 rolling stock. Each coach will have convenient space for wheelchair users, four CCTV cameras for passenger safety, fire detectors, LED route guide indicators and a LCD passenger information display system.

With this contract, Hyundai Rotem has forayed into another Indian city after Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jaipur and Kolkata. The South Korean company is associated with metro rail projects in these cities.

Coimbatore Metro | Experts suggest three corridors interlink at Gandhipuram

Coimbatore: A week ago, when TOI came out with its refreshed edition, experts had pointed out that one of the pressing needs of the city was an efficient public transport system. While a bus rapid transport system announced by the Coimbatore Corporation has a taken a back seat, chief minister Edapadi K Palanisami’s announcement that a feasibility study will be conducted for a metro in the city has lifted Coimbatoreans’ hopes.

Former chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry K Ilango said they had come out with a development plan for the city that spoke about the need for a public transport system. Tabled in December 2014, it stated that the city’s only mode of public transport was the government bus service. The survey said most Coimbatoreans were unhappy with Experts suggest that a metro service should be planned keeping in mind that the city is expanding in all directions. “There could be three corridors and all of them can intersect at Gandhipuram. One line can be from Neelambur to Madukkarai, the other from Sulur to Bharathiar University and the third line from Narasimhanaickenpalaym to Echanari,” said principal architect of Arun & Associates P Arun Prasad.

Arun said Gandhipuram should be the interchanging station. “Gandhipuram has three bus stands. It helps commuters taking a bus to also take the metro,” he said. Asked if it was possible to have one interjection for three corridors, Arun said, “Yes, it should be feasible. I have seen stations with three lines interjecting in Munich, Germany and in South Korea.”the system as it was slow and had poor connectivity.

“There are six arterial roads along which all major development has happened. They are Avinashi Road, Mettupalayam Road, Trichy Road, Palakkad Road, Pollachi Road and Sathyamangalam Road. All these are highways,” said Ilango. “The state government should look at these roads while drawing a plan for a metro service,” he added.

IRSDC issues request for empanelment for providing architectural and engg services

New Delhi: Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) seeks Application for Empanelment through this Request For Empanelment “RFE” for being pre-qualified and shortlisted under three (3) different categories as set out under clause 3.2 of this RFE for providing architectural planning and engineering services for preparation of master plan and concept plan including technical feasibility report for development of railway stations of Indian Railways.

IRSDC intends to invite Bids related to services for providing architectural planning and engineering services for preparation of master plan and concept plan including technical feasibility report for development of railway stations only from the successful Applicants who are shortlisted through this Empanelment process.

Applicants who score 90 and above marks in Technical Score shall be placed in highest category, i.e., Category A, 80 and above but below 90 in Category B and below 80 and upto 70 in Category C. Request for Proposal (RFP) at the Bid Stage for any Project(s) as earmarked in a category shall only be issued to Applicants empaneled in that particular category and below.

IRSDC shall also limit the number of assignments that shall be awarded to individual consultant in each category to four (4), three (3) and two (2) as per the Category A, Category B and Category C respectively.

The Authority has adopted a two-stage process (collectively referred to as the “Bidding Process” or “Selection Process”) for selection of the Consultant(s) for award of the Project(s). The first stage i.e RFE Stage (the “Empanelment Stage”) of the process involves pre-qualification and shortlisting (the “Empanelment”) in three (3) Categories of successful Applicants in accordance with the provisions of this RFE. At the end of this stage, the Authority expects to announce pre-qualified and shortlisted Applicants under different categories as per Clause 3.2 who shall be eligible for participation in the second stage i.e the (the “RFP stage” or “Bid Stage”) comprising Request for Proposals (the “Request for Proposals” or “RFP”) of Project(s).

The RFE Document is available online on the website, which can be accessed till the last date and time of submission of the Application.

Last date to submit application is 21st November 2017 upto 11.00 hrs IST.

Mumbai Metro One introduces mobile ticketing facility with PayTM

Mumbai: Reliance Infrastructure-run Mumbai Metro One has launched a mobile ticketing facility called ‘Skiiip Q’ in association with digital payments player Paytm, that will help commuters book their tickets even from outside the metro stations.

Instead of using tokens or smart cards, commuters can travel using the QR code generated by mobile app on automated fare collection gates of the 11.4-km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro line.

The facility is available on the Paytm App and app of technology partner Ridlr and will soon be introduced on the Mumbai Metro App.

The tokens and smart cards will continue to be available at ticketing windows with the added option available. Cash Suvidha eyes Rs 100 cr loan book by Mar

Maha Metro | Pune Metro project to get funding of Euro 845mn by March 2018

Pune: Funding for the Pune Metro Rail project is expected to be finalised by March 2018. The project is to be co-funded by European Investment Bank and French development bank, AfD and they will together be providing €845 million for the project, Brijesh Dixit, MD, Maha Metro, said. The EIB team will visit in December-end to study the project. EIB will be putting in €600 million while AfD would be financing €245 million, Dixit said. This funding will account for around 58% of the Rs 11,420-crore cost of the 31.25-km Pune Metro project with the remaining coming in the form of equity from the Central government, Maharashtra state government and the civic bodies of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, Dixit said.

The 50:50 central and state government-owned joint venture, the Pune Metro project has the advantage of being backed by sovereign guarantee of the government of India which enables it to access funds at a lower interest rates and with better terms and conditions which reduce cost and improve financial viability as well and reasonable fares, Dixit said. “We do not need the money now but will need it later, so we hope to finalise the agreement by end of March 2018,” Dixit said.

Maha Metro, which is executing the Pune Metro projects, is also working simultaneously on the multimodal integration across public transport systems.

An MoU will be signed with Indian Rail soon, Dixit said. A similar MoU will be signed with the state and city transport undertakings so that the Metro could be integrated by linking with existing public transport provided by Indian Rail, MSRTC, PMPML and BRTS to achieve seamless travel experience.

They have also received proposals for dockless bikes to enable Metro users to pick up and drop cycles for last-mile connectivity.

Pune Metro’s Civil Court station, which is interchange station for both the routes of PCMC-Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi as well also connects with the third line of Pune Metro, is being executed by the PMRDA. Tendering for the project has been completed for two stretches and some of the railway stations. Pune Metro has also got possession of around 50% of the government it needs for the Metro. The Metro needs 44 acres out of which it has already got 32 acres.

Mumbai Metro | 30-35% transplanted trees nearly dead in Mumbai Metro 3 project

Mumbai: The inspection report submitted before the two-judge committee on Mumbai Metro 3, which was appointed by the Bombay High Court, said 30-35% of the transplanted trees are nearly dead, and that there are still 839 trees to be transplanted.

The report prepared by a junior committee consisting of two officers of the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority, pointed out that 2,439 trees should have been planted till date, but not even a few hundred trees have been planted.

The petitioners have contended that the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) is taking proper care to prevent unnecessary hacking of trees, but the authorities are not taking enough care to transplant them as only 65-70% trees have shown sprouting of leaves.

Maha Metro | Pune Metro project to interlink four Indian Railways stations

Pune: The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has decided to interlink various railway stations, including Pune, Shivajinagar, Khadki and Kasarwadi, with metro stations as it will help commuters to switch over from one mode of transport to another on the same platform. According to officials, Maha-Metro has planned to connect metro stations directly to railway platforms.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Maha-Metro managing director Brijesh Dixit said that the company is working on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railway, mainly Central Railways, for interlinking stations of both Pune Metro and railways at four points.

The Pune Metro’s rail route Pimpri–Chinchwad to Swargate will connect Kasarwadi, Khadki and Shivajinagar railway stations and the Vanaz to Ramwadi metro route will connect with the Pune station.

“The Shivajinagar Metro station has been planned underground. Hence, Maha-Metro will erect a subway to connect to the Shivajinagar Metro route. Commuters would need to go one floor below to catch the metro from Shivajinagar railway station. Other metro stations will be at the level of foot overbridges,” Dixit said.

According to Dixit, Maha-Metro is planning the Shivajinagar Metro station near state transport bus stand which will help to connect with the Shivajinagar bus stand, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus stop and Shivajinagar railway station. Commuters from other stations will directly come to the metro station.

The underground metro will run from Range Hills to Swargate and its first station is Shivajinagar and next is civil court.

The Maha-Metro head said that they have completed primary discussion with the Indian Railway. Both the agencies would bear the cost of connecting the stations. As both the Indian Railways and Metro are helping each other and getting more commuters, agencies will share the cost equally.

It is planned that commuters would get tickets at both railway and metro platforms. Railways would open their ticket window at metro stations’ entry point and later commuters can get both metro as well as railway ticket.

Delhi Metro | DMRC Chief Mangu Singh conferred with Sat Paul Mittal National Award for the year 2017

New Delhi: Nehru Siddhant Kendra Trust conferred ‘Sat Paul Mittal National Award for the year 2017’ to the Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Dr. Mangu Singh in individual category in a function held at Ludhiana yesterday.

The award was bestowed on Dr. Singh by ‘Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust’ for rendering outstanding service to the humanity and in recognition of his contribution not only in planning and execution of the Metro projects in the country but also for environmental sustainability.

The national award carries an amount of Rs. 2 Lakhs, a citation and a memento for Dr. Singh, which he will be donating to charity.

Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust was founded by Late Sh. Sat Paul Mittal, M.P to propagate the ideologies of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru in 1983 and this national award was initiated in the fond memory of its Founder President.
