Bangalore Metro | Residents are not happy with the pace of work

Representational Image

Bangalore: Unmistakable by all-day traffic jams in several areas, especially around Tin Factory in KR Puram and Graphite India junction, it is not surprising that traffic topped the list of civic problems that annoy the residents of Mahadevaura, Bommanahalli, and Yelahanka at the Times of India Bengaluru Forward event.

The history of the city’s technological corridor was only slightly different in the area of Whitefield, Mahadevapura, where residents demanded an early end to Metro work.

While Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has already started work for connecting Bppanahalli and Whitefield residents are not happy with the pace of work.

They say that all motorists who pass through the Graphite India junction run into a bumper road at peak during peak hours. Several authorities had promised residents that roads would be expanded before Metro’s work to ensure smooth flow of traffic, but residents say those promises have not been fulfilled.

“I take a BMTC bus from Graphite India to Richmond Road,” said Zibi Jamal, a Whitefield Rising member, a citizen forum. “During peak hours, it takes between 30 and 45 minutes to travel approximately 1.5 km on this stretch.”

Work to extend the Byappanahalli subway line to Whitefield was to start in mid-2010. They were ready for 2016. However, the project has been delayed due to problems such as land acquisition and logging.

Following the current pace of work, it is likely that the 15.5km line to Whitefield will be completed by 2020. It is likely to have 13 stations on the stretch. When interacting with residents, BMRCL chief engineer M Srinivas said that road infrastructure problems will be addressed to facilitate the traffic flow.

Mumbai Metro | MMRC designs a comprehensive plan to dig in Metro-3 corridor

0

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has designed a comprehensive plan to dig below, while allying fears that vibrations caused by work can affect heritage and ruinous structures.

The Metro-3 corridor will pass through Colaba to SEEPZ (the Export Processing Zone of Santacruz Electronics, a special economic zone), making stops at 27 stations, of which 26 will be underground.

Some activists and representatives of citizens have expressed concern for the safety and sustainability of old and heritage buildings since construction began.

Statements received from the concerned officials-

1.About 1,500 families affected by the project have been displaced and a workforce of 7,600, including qualified and unskilled, is at work. (The state agency that implements the project).

2. Best tested and internationally tested technologies are being used and, therefore, that question does not arise.More than 20 types of monitoring tools, tested and tested internationally, have been pressed to ensure the longevity and safety of buildings on the way.The vibrations caused during the piloting work are measured and recorded regularly with advanced instruments.

The records show that the vibration levels are even less than a quarter of the permitted safety limits allowed for heritage or weak buildings.Underlining the security measures adopted by the MMRC. We have identified the areas that fall into the 50-meter stretch on both sides of the route alignment and classify them into various levels of strengths. The company has hired the best available design consultants who are expanding their professional experience to contractors. This Metro will decrease the growing burden on the local rail, which unfortunately leads to thousands of deaths each year due to overpopulation, and this will eventually change the rules of the game in terms of the transportation scenario in the country. (Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, MMRC).

Attractive activists and other interested parties to cooperate in the execution of the project, said that Metro services help reduce carbon footprint and pollution, and constitute the most ecological mass public transport system.

GST reduction on metro construction materials can give some relief to Metro construction companies

1
Rolling Stock
Delhi Metro Train

With the rate of the Tax on Goods and Services (GST) on the construction of the metro and the monorail going down to 12 percent from 18 percent, EPC (engineering-procurement-construction) contractors in space would benefit provided their contracts they will be tendered taking into account the fiscal component. Essentially, if the EPC contractor had submitted an offer for the metro or monorail construction contract on the base price without taxes, then the decrease in the GST slab would prove to be an advantage for the company since the overall cost would decrease.

However, if the contract was tendered, including the tax component, the final cost would remain unchanged. According to experts, some of the contractors who were under stress due to higher costs would get some relief.

“This is a positive step in many aspects for the industry, first, the Capex for projects will be reduced, and second, there will be a significant reduction in working capital, since less funds will be blocked in the advance payment of taxes and Finally, book reconciliation will improve among interested parties, such as the project agency, contractors and subcontractors or suppliers.” (The statement said by SN Subrahmanyan) executive director and general manager of Larsen & Toubro. Larsen and Toubro are building Rs 160 billion metro rail project.

The first phase of the 72 km project was inaugurated in November. The GST Council, led by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, has recommended cutting GST rates for 83 goods and services that cover many sectors and commodities.

The council reduced the GST rate in the construction of metro and monorail projects (construction, assembly, commissioning or installation of original works) from 18 to 12 percent. Companies such as Reliance Infrastructure, Larsen and Toubro, NCC Infra, Simplex Infrastructures, JMC The projects, TPL-CHEC (a joint venture between Tata Projects and China Harbor Engineering Company) and J Kumar based infra-projects in Mumbai are actors in the sector .

ICRA, in a recent report, said that the metro rail sector has seen strong traction in recent years and is expected to provide considerable opportunities for construction companies over the next three to five years due to a strong portfolio of projects that they are in the approval and planning stage.

Currently, the central government encourages cities with more than 2 million people to develop mass transit systems Bombardier is carrying out several metro projects such as the Delhi Metro, Bengaluru Metro Phase II, Mumbai Metro Phase III , Vizag Metro and light rail for the cities of Kerala. Cities such as Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Jaipur already have subway systems. But with almost 50 cities and towns online for modern metro systems, the Tier II cities are ready to witness the next big wave.
