Bengaluru Metro’s Green Line to get 3 new trains by August

BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): Bengaluru Metro is expected to get three new train sets for the Green Line. According to Moneycontrol, three new six-coach train sets will be provided for the line by August 2026. With the addition of new trains, the peak time frequency of trains is expected to reduce, giving relief to commuters dealing with overcrowding.

The prototype of the train manufactured by CRRC was delivered to Bengaluru in January 2025. Moreover, testing of the train was also slow due to the limited amount of time allotted to testing, as the train had to be tested on the operational Green Line during the limited non-commercial hours. The train had to pass 37 statutory clearances before entering service for commuters.

Earlier on April 1, 2026, the Railway Board wrote to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) that new 6-car train-sets with DTG signalling system will be sanctioned for the Purple Line and Green Line of the Bengaluru Metro with a maximum operating speed of 80 kmph.

21 new trains exclusively for the Green Line

The Green Line is likely to receive 21 new train sets for the 33-km Green Line. The Line currently has 17 BEML train sets, which will be shifted to the Purple line as the 21 trains are inducted into the Green line. Thus, Purple Line, the busiest line of the Bengaluru metro, will get 17 train sets while the Green line will add four train sets. The shifting is being carried out for the simplicity of maintenance; the maintenance infrastructure of the new trains will be instituted at Peenya depot (Green Line).
