KANPUR (Metro Rail News): In the Kanpur Metro project, all precast structures (U-girders and I-girders) in the ramp area connecting the priority section (IIT-Motijheel) to the balance sections near Brijendra Swaroop Park have been successfully erected.

The final U-girder of the ramp, spanning approximately 315 meters in length, was erected on Saturday afternoon. This ramp serves as a vital link, connecting the 9 km-long priority section (IIT-Motijheel) with the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section. As per metro infrastructure norms, ramps are essential for seamlessly transitioning between elevated and underground sections.

The metro ramp, located in front of Brijendra Swaroop Park, is strategically positioned to connect with the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section, which lies approximately 18 meters deep after traversing the Sisamau drain. The ramp comprises a total of four I-girders, four U-girders, and two steel box girders.

Following the erection of the final U-girder, the metro will traverse an additional 95 meters on the elevated ramp and then proceed another 130 meters on the underground ramp before seamlessly merging with the underground tunnel.

A notable aspect of this development is the use of polycarbonate material for constructing the steel box girder railing. This material offers durability and ensures the safety of commuters. The construction process involves the installation of the parapet wall before track construction on precast I-girders and steel box girders on the ramp. Subsequently, a deck slab will be constructed to complete the structure.

The implementation of polycarbonate material for the railing or parapet wall on the approximately 45-meter-long steel box girders over the Sisamau drain underscores the project’s commitment to modern and sustainable infrastructure practices.

Currently, under Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, construction activities are progressing rapidly across various sections, including the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section, Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar underground section, and Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section.
