NCRTC Introduces Electric AC Buses at Namo Bharat Stations in Delhi for Last-Mile Connectivity

To ensure seamless and convenient travel for Namo Bharat commuters, NCRTC is making efforts to strengthen last-mile connectivity and provide high-speed Namo Bharat services.

As a part of this effort, NCRTC, in coordination with Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), have made arrangements to integrate air-conditioned electric city buses operating on various routes in Delhi with the Namo Bharat Stations. For this, initially, three routes connected to the operational stations, New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar of the Delhi Section, have been mutually identified. The buses of one of these routes are being operated from the New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat station itself.

PHOTO 2025 05 06 10 36 59

These buses, while operating on their usual routes, are making a stop at Namo Bharat Stations’ dedicated drop-off lanes, allowing commuters to easily board and deboard.

The three identified routes include

  • New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat Station to Anand Vihar ISBT,
  • Anand Vihar ISBT to Ashok Nagar Border
  • Ashok Nagar Border to Mayur Vihar Phase-3 Paper Market

These buses are operational on these routes between 6:30 AM and 11:00 PM, connecting areas like Chilla Village, Sapera Basti, New Kondli, Dallupura, Ghazipur Village and Mandi, Dharmshila Crossing, and Trilok Puri to the Namo Bharat network.

NCRTC has been making continuous efforts to provide fast and environment-friendly travel options to and from Namo Bharat stations — a key need given the environmental challenges.

E-rickshaws and last-mile service providers like Rapido are already operating at several stations in Ghaziabad. Now, the integration of electric buses started under the DEVI Bus Scheme (Delhi Electric Vehicle Interchange Scheme) marks another step forward in this direction. With this initiative, more commuters are choosing Namo Bharat trains for faster, greener travel.

NCRTC and DTC have come together to promote the use of public transport. This first and last mile connectivity encourages people to use public transport instead of private vehicles. This initiative will help in providing a long-term solution to the problems of traffic congestion and jams on the roads, along with environmental pollution.

Supreme Court Permits Delhi Metro Phase 4 Construction with Environmental Conditions

Delhi (Metro Rail News): On 29 April 2025, the Supreme Court permitted the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to proceed with construction activities for Phase IV of the Delhi Metro, following DMRC’s assurance to “strictly abide” by the conditions laid down by the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), which was appointed by the Court.

As part of Phase IV of the Delhi Metro project, the proposed corridors from Inderlok to Indraprastha and from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block will traverse areas which have been identified to have morphological features similar to the Ridge. The Ridge, a rocky extension of the Aravalli range, holds environmental importance and remains under protection as per court directives.

According to a report by the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), the construction will impact approximately 28,685 square metres of protected land, including areas near Jhandewalan and Pushpa Bhawan.

As per the Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee (CEC), the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) must adhere to the following conditions to proceed with construction in the ecologically sensitive ridge area:

  1. Financial Contribution: DMRC must deposit 5% of the project cost into the Ridge Management Board fund.
  2. Compensatory Plantation: DMRC will plant 1,280 indigenous trees on non-forest land, bear the cost of compensation, and select species under the guidance of the Forest Department of GNCTD.
  3. Mark Trees Clearly: DMRC must mark all trees to be preserved with colour bands in the presence of Forest Department officials and ensure their protection.
  4. Follow Supervised Tree Work: DMRC must engage a specialised agency to carry out translocation, felling, and pruning of trees under Forest Department supervision.
  5. Seek Tree Permissions: DMRC must obtain permission to fell 30 trees and transplant 92 trees for the Inderlok–Indraprastha Corridor, and to prune 6 trees for the Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block Corridor.
  6. Complete Interpretation Centre: DMRC may take additional time to complete the Ridge Interpretation Centre as required.
  7. Ensure Accountability: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) must initiate legal action against the concerned DMRC official (CP Singh) for any non-compliance.
  8. Submit Compliance Reports: DMRC must submit quarterly compliance reports to the CEC.
  9. Follow Court Mandates: DMRC must comply with all other conditions mandated by the Supreme Court.
  10. Monitor and Execute Transparently: DMRC must ensure transparency and oversight by the Forest Department throughout the implementation process.

On Tuesday, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing DMRC, informed the Supreme Court bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and A.G. Masih that the DMRC would adhere to the conditions laid out by the CEC. Taking note of the submission, the bench stated in its order: “Solicitor General Tushar Mehta says DMRC would strictly abide by the above conditions. In that view of the matter, the application (by DMRC) is allowed. However, it is directed that the DMRC shall scrupulously comply with the conditions as imposed by the CEC.”
