Kolkata ( Metro Rail News): Kolkata Metro progressed as the Sealdah-Esplanade stretch of the Green line, which spans 2.63 km, has received the safety certificate from the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS).
CRS Inspection
On 27 April 2025, Shri Sumeet Singhal, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), North Frontier Circle, conducted the through inspection of the Sealdah-Esplanade stretch of the Green line.


About the Trials
On 21 January 2025, the first trial run was conducted on the Sealdah-Esplanade stretch of the Green Line.
Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway and Chairman, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL), and other senior officers of Metro Railway and KMRCL were present during the trials.
About Kolkata Metro Green Line
The Green Line of Kolkata Metro spans 13 km, connecting Sector V – Sealdah and Howrah Maidan – Esplanade through 12 stations.
Operational Route :
- The Sector V to Salt Lake Stadium stretch spanning 5.3 km became operational on 13 February 2020.
- On 5 October 2020, the Salt Lake Stadium to Phoolbagan stretch of the Green Line, which spans 1.7 km, became operational.
- On 14 July 2022, the Phoolbagan to Sealdah stretch of the Green Line, which spans 2.1 km, became operational.
- The Howrah Maidan – Esplanade stretch spanning 3.9 km became operational on 6 March 2024.
With this development, the Sealdah-Esplanade stretch of the Green line will soon become operational, making the Kolkata Metro’s Green Line completely operational.
