Nagpur Metro |Construction of 10 Metro rail stations to start in a week

Nagpur: The city’s metro rail project will gather more speed as Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) awarding the contract to construct 10 railway stations to Infrastructure Leasing and Finance Services (ILFS). The work on the stations will begin within a week, Brijesh Dixit, managing director of NMRCL, said on Wednesday.Of the 10 stations, seven are elevated and three are at ground level. The stations are: Khapri and New Airport (both ground level), Airport, Ujjwal Nagar, Jaiprakash Nagar, Chhatrapati Nagar, Ajni Square, Rahate Colony and Congress Nagar (all elevated). In addition, a temporary station will be constructed between Khapri and New Airport stations, which will be used for the test run. “If need arises we can continue with this station. In any case we are going to use the space in front of this station for parking of private vehicles, buses and autorickshaws,” the MD said.Dixit further said that work on the stations will be done at a fast pace as NMRCL had handed over the designs to the contractor at the time of awarding the tender. “We provided them 181 designs. Usually, final designing is done after the contract is awarded. Another unique feature is that some part of the viaduct will be constructed along with the stations,” he added.Meanwhile, NMRCL has achieved another milestone by launching its first girder (horizontal portion) between New Airport and Khapri Metro Stations in the viaduct over the proposed Concor siding in Mihan. Over 80 girders of similar spans are ready in the casting yard, which will be launched shortly. “With the progressing launching of remaining girders, track linking work will be started. Eighteen horizontal segments, to be used in the Airport to Sitabuldi stretch, are ready and will be launched from mid-August,” Dixit further said.In another major development, NMRCL has changed the design of Wardha Road flyover for the convenience of motorists. The earlier design was made by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Earlier, motorists using the flyover and coming from Manish Nagar side would have to go up to the Airport entrance and take a U-turn for going toward Ajni Square. The new decision will allow motorists to travel in both directions without any detour.Mahesh Kumar, NMRCL director (projects), told TOI, “We will build a 200 metre long tunnel below the railway line. The 20 metre wide tunnel will reach ground level near a park. A loop will connect the road to the flyover. There will be on both sides of the railway line. This design has been approved by the chief minister.”

It is not my domain of work”.On July 23, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had said that services on Little Mount-Airport route would begin in August, extension from Alandur to St Thomas Mount Station in October while that from Koyambedu to Park Station was expected to begin by end of this year.

Delhi Metro | DMRC plans to convert 50% AFC Exit Gates for Smart Cards users only

New Delhi: In order to facilitate the Smart Card carrying passengers who comprise about 70% of the daily Metro passengers, the Delhi Metro has decided to convert 50 percent of the existing ‘Automatic Fare Collection Gates (AFC) Exit Gates’ to ‘Card Only’ Exit Gates. At present, Delhi Metro has 1073 AFC Exit Gates across all Metro stations of the network. Of these, 500 ‘Exit Gates’ are being converted exclusively for the Smart Card users to be known as ‘Card Only’ AFC Exit Gates. The move is aimed at facilitating a smooth exit from the dedicated gates at a faster pace. The remaining AFC Exit Gates will remain functional for both the Smart Card and Token carrying passengers. These dedicated ‘Card Only’ exit gates will also help Token users as shifting of Card users to their dedicated exit gates would allow Token users more space/time to exit from remaining AFC(mixed-token+card) Exit Gates. Token handling at times by relatively new passengers leads to some minor error/delay in exit but this new arrangement would pave the way for a smooth exit for both types of commuters- Card as well as token users avoiding unnecessary delay/hassle in exit.   At present, 300 AFC Gates have already been converted into ‘Card Only’ AFC Exit Gates at Metro stations across all lines. Rest of the stations will be covered by the end of this month. Adequate signages are being placed at these gates to inform and facilitate the passengers.Presently, the Delhi Metro has 213 km of operational network with 160 stations which carries around 26 lakh commuters everyday across Delhi and NCR. Of these, around 18 lakh commuters use Metro Smart card every day.
