Hyderabad: A total of 1,200 properties are still at different stages of acquisition for the Hyderabad Metro Rail. He said while those losing properties earlier wanted alternative sites, they were preferring money now. “Some of them have gone to court and the proceedings are at various stages.”A senior officer said that the claims for final settlements were not being cleared. “After notice is served on the owners, compensation must be given to them but that is taking time,” he said.In Secunderabad, the Padma Hamsa Apartments case is before the Hyderabad collector after the court cleared its acquisition. The collector has to decide how much money each apartment owner has to be paid.
A total of 1,131.89 square yards of the apartments will be taken over, an officer said. “Hyderabad Metro Rail will pay Rs 7.97 crore but this money has to be divided between each owner. This has to be decided by the collector. However, considering that CMRL is a provider of public transport services in Chennai, the Commission observed that “ends of justice will be met only if CMRL is classified under HT Tariff I (B) for all the connected load of CMRL.” “Other loads like ATM, kiosks, stalls, hotels, etc., shall be separately metered and charged under miscellaneous category and it shall be deducted from the main energy consumption metered at the CMRL’s point of supply,” the order said.

CMRL had approached the Commission seeking railway traction tariff for July 2013-June 2015 pointing out that the Metro Rail was an essential public utility and social sector green field project. CMRL claimed that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) were being charged lower tariff of Rs. 6.10 per unit with fixed demand charges of Rs. 150 per kVA, and Rs. 5.20 per unit with fixed demand charges of Rs. 180 per KVA per month respectively under a special category, CMRL said.

It argued that its operational cost will be impacted if tariff was not fixed on par with DMRC or BMRCL. But TANGEDCO said, between July 2013 and June 2015 the power supply was used for trial operations and hence the agency was billed.

New Delhi:  The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is going to install a 3 MWp solar power plant on top of the elevated Metro stabling lines of the Kalindi Kunj depot which will cater to trains operating on the Janakpuri West – Botanical Garden corridor.

In view of the constraints in availability of adequate land for the Kalindi Kunj depot, Delhi Metro engineers decided to construct an elevated stabling shed to accommodate Metro trains for maintenance purposes. This in itself was a major engineering achievement since, for the first ever time anywhere in Delhi Metro, an elevated shed was being constructed to counter the paucity of space and  taking this innovative approach further, DMRC has decided to utilise the available space of the roof area of the stabling shed for generation of solar power.As per the plan, the solar plant will be set up on the frames of the stabling lines and will also serve the dual purpose of being the roof of the facility. A specialized agency was roped in to assess the feasibility of installing such a solar plant since Delhi Metro had not undertaken such a project before. Based on their report, a decision has been taken to install a 3 MWp plant there. The cost of installing this solar plant will be borne by the developer, as is the case with all DMRC plants, and Delhi Metro shall pay for the energy charges @ Rs. 5.4945 per unit, as levellised tariff for 25 years.The work on the stabling shed will be completed in about six months and then the solar plant will be installed atop the shed. Delhi Metro has so far installed solar power facilities at three of its depots (Yamuna Bank, Ajronda and Mukundpur) and work is in progress towards installing more such plants in the other depots. Installation of solar plant of 880KWp at Kalindi Kunj depot has been completed and commissioning work is in progress. Presently, the largest solar power plant on an individual roof is the stabling shed of Yamuna Bank Depot with a capacity of 624 KWp.Delhi Metro has so far commissioned 6.3 MWp of solar power plants across 21 locations in the Delhi Metro network. By March, 2017 DMRC will have commissioned solar power plants with capacity of about 20 MWp and by March, 2018, Delhi Metro will generate 31 MWp of solar power. As per its solar policy, DMRC plans to generate 50 MWp of solar power by the year 2021.

NEW DELHI:  More than 500 km of metro rail project is under construction across the country and new projects will depend on availability of funds as well as feasibility, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said today.He also told the Lok Sabha that government is not considering any change to the National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP) which provides a broad framework for development of urban transport.

During the Question Hour, he said there is a demand for having metros in different cities and decisions would be taken after taking into consideration availability of funds as well as feasibility of projects.Since urban transport intertwined with urban development is a state subject, planning, execution and development of urban transport facilities are done by the states and union territories concerned, Mr Naidu said.Meanwhile, the Urban Development Ministry has provided financial assistance to 11 cities for construction of 504 kilometres Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).
According to the Minister, around 222 kilometres of BRTS is operational and the remaining 282 kilometres is under construction.”Funding under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) has been continued till March 31, 2017 for 7,059 busines and 25 ancillary infrastructure projects (sanctioned during the transition phase ie. 2012-13 and 2013-14).“Additional Central Assistance amounting to Rs. 2,740 crore has been released. More than 18,000 buses have been procured so far,” Mr Naidu said.

Chennai:  Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday stood by her earlier opposition to the Metro Rail project in Chennai and said in the State Legislative Assembly her government went ahead with the project because the erstwhile DMK Government had already commissioned works and terminating it thereafter would not have been feasible.

When DMK legislator and former Chennai Corporation Mayor M. Subramanian read out her comments made in the House in July 2006 opposing the Metro Rail project, Ms. Jayalalithaa intervened and said, “I am not denying the comments I had made over the Metro Rail Project earlier. It is true that they are my comments. However, the Metro Rail project has commenced. The situation was such that the works have to be completed, so works were completed. The project presently underway cannot be stopped. I thanked the Central government for the assistance extended by the Central government. I have not denied what I have said.”

She also took a swipe at the DMK for leaving projects incomplete after having commissioned them when the party was in power during various periods. “Why did the DMK not complete the Veeranam project, which was initiated by it (back in the seventies). Even though you came back to power again (1989 and 1996), you did not have the resolve to take up the project again. Only after I came to power, I successfully executed the Veeranam project (2001-06). I would like to point out that only through this project drinking water supply has been ensured to Chennai city to this day,” Ms. Jayalalithaa said.

A few minutes after the Saidapet MLA commenced his speech with a reference to the Assembly as the “historic House”, Ms. Jayalalithaa intervened and asked “was it only because it was such a historic House, they (DMK) raised a building like a grounded ship and moved the House there? (a reference to the new Secretariat building in Government Estate – now converted into a super speciality hospital)?” She also claimed that the Speaker’s chair was dumped by the erstwhile DMK Government when the Secretariat was shifted and had to be recovered by the Assembly Secretary.

New Delhi: An orientation and mobility workshop on the topic, ‘How to deal with visually challenged passengers’ was organized today for the operations staff of the Delhi Metro with the objective of imparting them with the necessary knowhow of attending to visually impaired passengers.

Close to 150 frontline staff of the Delhi Metro comprising of Station Managers, Station Controllers and Customer Relation Assistants (CRAs) attended the workshop. As these officials interact with the passengers at the stations, the workshop was organized so that they are trained adequately to deal with the visually impaired commuters.Experts from the ‘Blind Relief Association’, Delhi conducted the workshop at Metro Bhawan. The workshop was focused on providing orientation and mobility to the visually impaired passengers while traveling by the Delhi Metro.The Delhi Metro already has taken a number of measures to provide comfortable traveling experience to the differently abled commuters. Facilities like ramps, tactile paths, wide AFC Gates, lifts, reserved seats etc are provided to the differently abled passengers at all stations. Attendants with wheel chair facility are also provided to the commuters on prior intimation.All the staff deputed with the task of interacting with passengers are also trained at Delhi Metro’s training institute before assuming charge. They are imparted training on various aspects of customer handling including topics such as dealing with differently abled passengers, providing first aid etc. This workshop was an extension of these initiatives already taken by DMRC.

Chennai Metro | 104 km, 104 stations: Unveiling Phase II of Metro

The bulk of the stretch is likely to be underground, leading to an escalation of cost from the original estimate of Rs. 44,000 crore.

Chennai: Even as phase I of Chennai Metro Rail is finally becoming operational in segments, after six years of construction, phase II, stretching over 104.5 km with 104 stations, will soon be submitted to the State government for approval.

Officials of RITES, the organisation that has been preparing the detailed project report for the stretch, said they will submit the document in September.

Except for the portion from Kandanchavadi bus stop to SIPCOT, the remaining portions of the three corridors will be underground. “Except for that portion, we don’t have the adequate road width to carry out elevated corridor construction in the rest of the stretch,” an official said.

There will be a huge depot located at Madhavaram Milk Colony for maintenance of stations. “Depending on the requirement, we can add another depot,” he added.

According to officials of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), if most of the three corridors in phase II are underground, then the cost may be revised from the existing estimate of about Rs. 44,000 crore. “It may cost about Rs. 150-200 crore per kilometre overground, whereas underground construction may cost as much as Rs. 400-500 crore per kilometre,” an official said. In this phase too, the Japan International Cooperation Agency may be providing part of the funds, he added.

Sources said the fares may be in line with the rates in phase I. For the first service between Koyambedu and Alandur, the fares range between Rs. 10-40 for the 10-km stretch.

During today’s visit, the Managing Director emphasized on early completion of the Depot work so that the first Metro train is brought to the depot and the trial runs are started as early as possible.He visited critical locations of construction to ensure that the progress of the project is carried as per his directions so that Metro construction is carried out expeditiously to complete the target for commissioning of the 8.5 km long Metro section between Charbagh and Transport Nagar.Leaving no stone unturnedto see that the project is completed as per the schedule, the Managing Director has been carrying out his ‘Saturday’ visits every weekend to ensure that the bottlenecks are removed as fast as it can be and the contractorsare able to deliver the result in the quickest possible time.Today morning, Shri Kumar Keshavfirst visited theDurgapuri Metro Station where the contractor – M/s L&T – is carrying out the civil work for the Station. Kochi Metro | French agency finalises funding for Metro phase-II

KOCHI: French financing agency Agence Française de Développement (AFD), on Friday officially announced funding for phase-II development of the Kochi Metro Rail, and other city development projects proposed by the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).Meanwhile, a team from AFD expressed satisfaction over the progress of the Metro Rail project, for which the agency is  providing external funding.The AFD team comprising AFD-Head Office urban transport expert Priscille De Coninck, AFD-Delhi Regional Office director Nicolas Fornage, AFD-Asia Department geographical coordinator Marine Karcher and AFD-Delhi Regional Office project coordinator Juliette Le Pannerer had arrived in Kochi on Thursday for a two-day visit in connection with supervising the progress of phase-I of the Metro Rail.“We are here to review the progress of phase-I of the Kochi Metro Rail. Since our last visit in April this year, there has been a great deal of progress in the construction work.“We were even able to carry out trial run of the coaches on potential routes. We are confident that the deadline for commercial operation would be met.“We are committed to fulfilling the KMRL’s request to fund phase-II of the project and development of major junctions like Edappally and Kalamassery. We will extend wholehearted support to the KMRL’s city improvement projects. We are also planning to draw up and approve a formal agreement for funding the project by the first half of 2017,” said Nicolas Fornage.“The phase-I and phase-II of the Kochi Metro Rail, the Water Metro and the Smart City project will bring in total investment of around `11,000 crore to the city, of which `9,000 core will be set aside exclusively for mobility-related projects. Once completed, the infrastructure projects will transform Kochi into a smart, efficient and sustainable city,” said KMRL managing director Elias George.Later, officials of the AFD and KMRL held  discussions on revamping the Vyttila Mobility Hub and extending additional support for city improvement and place-making projects.“AFD’s ‘Kochi Project’ involves much more than facilitating creation of the metro line, but envisages implementation of a vision to transform Kochi into a smart and efficient city, with the Metro and related infrastructure functioning as the backbone,” said Fornage.The `100-crore project for city improvement and junction development was approved in the last director board meeting of the KMRL.

New Delhi:  The NOIDA Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with theDelhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as per which the DMRC will be assisting NMRC in their Operations & Maintenance (O&M) services/works of the 29.7 KM long NOIDA-Greater NOIDA Metro corridor. DMRC will be providing such services/assistance to NMRC till they develop the expertise to take over the operations and maintenance themselves.The MoU was signed today at DMRC’s corporate office at Metro Bhawan by Mr. P D Upadhyay, General Manager (Finance)/NMRC and Mr. Vikas Kumar, Executive Director (Operations)/DMRC in the presence of Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director/DMRC and Mr. Santosh Yadav, Managing Director/NMRC and other senior officials from both the organizations.

The assistance for O&M services would be rendered during the pre-commercial operation period of the NMRC and 3 years post commercial operation period too. The agreement may be extended after successful completion of three years of commercial operations by NMRC with mutual consent.During the pre-commercial operation period of the NMRC, the permanent or contractual manpower requirements shall be advised and recruited by DMRC in consultation with NMRC. This will be followed by commercial Operational training for the staff and formulation and implementation of train operation plan, station and revenue management etc. during the commercial operation period. The operation of Operation Control Centre and Depot shall also be supervised by DMRC for this period.The construction work of NOIDA-Greater NOIDA Corridor is already being executed by DMRC on behalf of NMRC. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is executing the project as the Project Management Consultant for the NOIDA Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC).  The civil works on this corridor consist of 29.7 KM of viaduct and 21 stations.DMRC has been involved in the planning, consultancy or construction for almost all Metro projects across the country. The DMRC has already constructed the 9.25 KM Metro corridor for the Phase-I of the Jaipur Metro which became operational in June 2015.
