Delhi Metro | DMRC enters Limca book of Records for erecting 200 Girders
New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has entered the prestigious Limca Book of Records for erecting 200 Girders in just one month on the Noida – Greater Noida corridor. Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC was formally handed over the Certificate from the Limca Book of Records today.DMRC had successfully executed the task of erecting 200 U-Girders on the Noida – Greater Noida corridor in the month of May 2016. . This is the maximum number of U-girders ever launched in any Metro corridor in India within a month. DMRC used six special trailers to transport the girders and six special cranes of around 350/400 Tonnes capacity to launch the 27 mts long and 5.05 mts wide U-Girders.All the U-Girders were pre fabricated at the two Casting Yards located in Noida Sector 149 and Depot Station in Greater Noida, and each weighed approx. 153 Tonnes. The 200 U-Girders converts to approximately 2.7 kms of twin Metro elevated viaduct. A total of 2002 U-Girders have to be erected for the entire corridor. The viaduct on the NOIDA – Greater NOIDA section is being constructed by specialised technique of pre-cast pier caps and precast U-girders. The main challenge of U girders is precision in casting as well as launching which requires specialised cranes of 350/400 tons capacity to launch these u-girders. Also, the transportation of U-girders from the casting yards to the site was another challenge because of its length and width. Accordingly, specialised trailers were mobilised for transporting these U-girders.The Noida – Greater Noida corridor is approx. 30 kms completely elevated corridor having 21 stations. This corridor is on Standard Gauge and is crossing beneath the Dedicated Railway Freight Corridor. It is also crossing above the Yamuna – Agra Flyover at 21 mts. which is the highest point of the corridor near the Knowledge Park – II metro station. All stations of this corridor will have Platform Screen Doors, Water Harvesting Facility and Solar Panels.Noida – Greater Noida corridor will be linked with the upcoming Noida City Centre to Sector 62 Metro corridor. A Foot Over Bridge will be connecting Sector 52 metro station of Noida City Centre to Sector 62 corridor with Sector – 71 Metro station (the first station of the corridor) of the Noida – Greater Noida corridor. This project has been executed by DMRC on behalf of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) Ltd. through its civil contractors Continental Engineering Corporation & SAM India Builtwell Pvt. Ltd. Joint Venture.Source//DMRC

Delhi Metro | DMRC builds Prakriti Metro Park from waste materials at Shastri Park
New Delhi: Prakriti – Metro Park, a one of a kind park oriented towards creating greener public spaces in the capital, was unveiled by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) at Shastri Park today. Justice Swatanter Kumar, Chairperson, National Green Tribunal (NBT) inaugurated the park in the presence of DMRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Mangu Singh and other senior officials.Spread over an area of over 10 acres, the park has a host of recreational as well as artistic attractions. Facilities such as an auditorium, amphitheatre, meditation alcove, playground for children and gymnasium have been provided for the visitors. A lake with fountain along with a rain forest has also been created in the park. The main highlights of the park are the artistic installations created from waste materials generated from the Delhi Metro’s construction sites. Artists from across the country have come together to create these beautiful installations, all of which carry pertinent messages on a range of issues. Almost one third of the materials used in the park are salvaged materials.Delhi Metro’s care for the environment has also been depicted both in the design as well as the eventual construction of the park. An environmental gallery has been created which has paintings about the importance of environmental protection.Utilization of top soil from various underground station sites, plantation of nature, medicinal and pollution absorbing plants, bird attracting species, creation of a ‘Rain forest’ etc. are some of the other green attractions of the park.Because of these features, the park has also received a ‘Platinum’ rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The water required for horticultural use will be provided by the Sewerage Water Treatment Plant (STP) in the vicinity and 20 kW of power requirements will be met by solar power generation making it a net positive energy park. For irrigation purposes also, treated water is being used. Arrangements for rainwater harvesting has been done for 100 percent runoff water from the site. Almost 97 percent of plant species are native enabling water use reduction. Nearly, 90 percent of construction materials used are also local materials. During the construction work, no construction waste was sent to landfills, instead waste materials from other DMRC sites was reused. The organic waste generated at the park is also being treated.Another highlight of the park is the Trellis Court which has eight pillars of progressively increasing height in the centre which depicts the evolution of Delhi Metro from a nascent organisation, which took up the challenge of encompassing Delhi with metro network to a confident and evolved organisation which is now in the process of completing many new lines.Appreciating the efforts of Delhi Metro in creating this park, Justice Swatanter Kumar said,”DMRC has not only contributed excellence in transportation but it stands out for two more things – it is environmentally conscious and it makes the effort to be self reliant. With the Prakriti Park, DMRC has begun a new chapter in CSR. It will set a good precedence for others in the corporate sector to follow.”The park is within walking distance from the Shastri Park Metro station on the Red Line. It was a “rare situation” when three substations tripped one after another due to problems of power supply causing cancellation of four round trips, two delayed trips and one partial trip cancellation on the Line 6 (Violet Line), said Sharat Sharma, Director (Operations) of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).“Intermittent power supply failure from Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd (HVPNL) and Delhi Transco Ltd (DTL) to DMRC’s substations located at Faridabad, Sarita Vihar and Park Street led to tripping of OHE. These substations distribute power to entire Line-6 for running trains and stations,” he said. The problem began with power tripping at Sarita Vihar substations at 8.11 am and immediately supply was restored from Faridabad substation which also tripped at 8.28 am. Supply tripped at both the substations thrice each, intermittently, affecting the train movement. To tackle the situation, power supply was restored from IP Extension substation but it also tripped for five minutes at 8.25 am. Finally, power supply was restored at Faridabad substation at 9.42 am and situation normalised at 9.49 am. For three minutes, between 8.25 am to 8.28 am, there was no power available, said the official.Metro services in the recent past have been hit due to one or another reason. A power supply snag hit the Yellow Line, delaying train movement along the North-South corridor, yesterday. DMRC has lodged a case against a telecom company in this regard for snapping a power line. The Blue Line (Line 3) connecting Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida City Centre and Vaishali is often affected by snags related to signalling problems.“Line 3 is more prone to failures due to a different signalling system used by us,” Sharma said.Office-goers had a hard time as they were stranded in the trains as well as on stations as train services remained affected for around two hours.“In normal cases of tripping at any substation, the power supply is restored from another one but in this particular case the situation was difficult due to tripping of power supply at three substations intermittently,” Sharma said.

Delhi Metro | Power failure slows down metro services in Yellow Line
New Delhi: In continuation of its recent poor run, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation faltered yet again today with a power supply snag hitting the Yellow Line, delaying train movement along the North-South corridor.Train services were hit from around 12 PM to 12.40 PM due to failure of power supply from Delhi Transco (DTL) to DMRC’s substations located at Kashmere Gate and Jahangirpuri, leading to tripping of Over Head Electrification (OHE) two to three times, a Delhi Metro official said.Services were affected between Central Secretariat and Samaypur Badli stations of the corridor. However, the cascading effect could be felt along the entire line due to bunching effect, he said.On the other hand, interlocking issue between Jahangirpuri and Model Town stations hindered the setting of routes and providing target speed to trains, thereby affecting the services further.“Two trains were short looped from Viswavidyalaya to HUDA City Centre in this period to minimise the impact on rest of the section,” the official said. The 48-km-long Yellow Line (line 2), one of the busiest, connects north Delhi’s Samaypur Badli to Huda City Centre of Gurgaon passing through the walled city and south Delhi.A spate of glitches have hit DMRC’s Blue Line in the recent past, prompting the Centre to seek a detailed report on the same.

Mumbai Metro | MMRDA plans to build Metro Bhavan in Aarey Milk Colony
Mumbai: After demarcating a portion of Aarey Milk Colony for a Metro car depot, the state government is now planning to build a ‘Metro Bhavan’.There is already a stand-off between environmentalists and state officials over a part of Aarey Milk Colony being used for the Metro rail car depot. Now, there is a plan to have more Metro-related facilities at Aarey, but on a different land parcel, to ease Mumbaikars’ commuting woes. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) now wants a four-acre plot next to the Western Express Highway in Goregaon to set up an integrated operations and control centre.“We will require land permanently to set up the centre for all Metro rail routes planned and those under construction in Mumbai. We recently placed a request with the departments concerned,” said Praveen Darade, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA. Earlier, another request was forwarded by the MMRDA to the Urban Development Department and Dairy Development Department to obtain another two acres adjoining the plot identified for the control centre. However, there will be a need for setting up labour camps as well as a casting yard for the Metro lines, for a few years or for temporary use.“These two plots are next to a new fuel station that has come up on the eastern side of the Western Express Highway. The plots do not have tree coverage. There is only wild grass or bushes,” added Darade.“We received a proposal by Dairy Development Department a few days ago pertaining to the setting up a Metro Bhavan on the plot,” said NV Rathod, Chief Executive Officer of Aarey Milk Colony.Stalin D, who has challenged the construction of the car depot (for the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro line) and Aarey Metro station at Aarey with the National Green Tribunal, responded to the latest development, saying: “I am not surprised with their latest move. We are fighting to protect the city’s green cover.”
