Maharashtra Metro : Maharashtra Metro to start work on underground stretch by June

PUNE: Work in the underground section of the Pune Metro railroad is expected to begin in June. The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) will issue tenders in this regard in a week. The underground section is 5 km long and is located below the Pimpri-Swargate metro corridor. At Rs500 crore per kilometer, the underground work is expected to cost 2,500 rupees. “Once the bids are issued, bidders are allowed a period of 45 days to participate, followed by the process of opening tenders and issuing work orders and after that, field work begins,” said MahaMetro’s boss, Brijesh Dixit. Dixit added that the bidding process will be open for both Indian and foreign companies. “There will be a good amount of competition since several companies have the necessary tunnel technology for the underground subway,” he said. The total length of the Pimpri-Swargate corridor is 16.5km, of which the last 5km will be underground. In this section, nine of the 15 stations will be elevated and the rest underground. According to the Maha Metro plan, most of the area where the underground work will be carried out is built or passed below the main roads. Therefore, vertical axes will be inserted into the college of agriculture and Swargate, and the tunnel boring machines (TBM) will be lowered through the axles to excavate an important part of the route. Authorities said there are smaller sections in the underground part of the alignment where a “cut and cover” method is being considered. “To begin with, work will be carried out in the wells,” said a senior MahaMetro official. “These axes, one in Swargate and the other in the university of agriculture, will be used to lower the TBM, Tunnel excavators will start operating in five or six months,” the official added. The tunnel boring machines will excavate the tunnel at the sites where the Metro stations for Civil Court, Pune Municipal Corporation, Budhwar Peth and Mandai will be installed, while the cutting and coverage method will be used at the Shivajinagar and Swargate stations.Stripped to the bone, the structure of the metro station is a concrete box about 20 m wide, 14.6 m high and 225 m long, with an intermediate slab. The sides of the box are made of reinforced cement 1.2m thick. When asked about possible damages to public services, officials said that the guidelines in the detailed project report (DPR) will be followed to the letter. “All public services that fall within the excavation area must be diverted in advance to avoid damage during construction, but cross-profits must be supported,” said DPR. A suggestion made by the consultants for the project indicates that the pressure water ducts crossing the proposed cutting zone must be provided with valves on both sides of the cut. This will serve to isolate the cutting and flooding area in case of damage to the pipeline while the work is being carried out.

Delhi Metro | DMRC to bring over 900 electric feeder buses

New Delhi: With a focus on the goal of last mile connectivity to nearby locations, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will bring more than 900 electric feeder buses to the road. Commissioned by the government of Delhi, which completed 905 of those buses for the convenience of passenger lakhs using the Metro, the proposal was discussed during this year’s budget. The new buses will circulate five kilometers from different metro stations, at a frequency of five minutes. Of the other outstanding features, these buses will not have any conductor and travelers will be able to take advantage of the services by using their Metro smart card. The DMRC has sent a proposal to the government of Delhi in this regard, proposing two types of buses in order to have seats that vary between 7 and 20.The buses will operate on the cluster scheme lines as part of a separate subsidiary company that will be formed by the railway entity. This means that the government will compensate for any losses incurred by the DMRC in providing this service. According to senior officials at DMRC, they have already analyzed about 50 routes to operate these electric feeder buses. The civil employee shared that, although they have presented/displayed a proposal of buses to GNC and electrical, this last one has found the favor of the government, since it has made provisions for them in its last budget, that has to the green Delhi as its main pillar. The DMRC has a fleet of more than 300 feeder buses that operate around 40 routes throughout Delhi. They work from 8 a.m. in the morning until 10 p.m. at night, which facilitates the mobility of travelers. With the introduction of a new fleet this year, the Metro authorities expect to add more than 500. Next, the number of routes in which these buses will be mobilized will increase.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the first transit project in the world to be PEER Certified

DMRC, the first transit project in the world to be PEER Certified

New Delhi – (March 29, 2018) –Administered by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), the premier organization independently recognizing excellence in green business industry performance and practice globally, today announced Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in India as the first transit project in the world to achieve Performance Excellence in Electricity Renewal (PEER) certification PEER – is the world’s first certification program that measures and improves power system performance, helping to provide reliable and sustainable energy to people everywhere in the world: homes, hospitals, schools, businesses, communities, cities and utility regions.

DMRC, is the first PEER-certified transit project in the world. The certification applies to its Blue Line covering 51 stations in India. More than 10 percent of the line’s non-traction load is met through onsite renewable energy and demand side management programs, such as automated controls for air conditioning, escalators and lighting loads, are allowing DMRC to effectively conserve energy.

“It does not matter if you live in a small village in India or a major city like New York, when power systems fail, whether it is a downed power line or a natural disaster, it puts our safety and economic prosperity at risk,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO of the USGBC and GBCI.“Through PEER, we are recognizing industry performance and driving the adoption of strategies and practices that help improve our quality of life. With PEER we see a huge market transformation opportunity for the power sector.”

“DMRC being a life line of Delhi transport system, all the systems are being provided with redundancy, to ensure reliability and resiliency. Keeping in view India’s commitment to mitigate climate change, DMRC is striving to increase utilization of renewable energy in its metro system,” said Dr. Mangu Singh, managing director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. “However, PEER provides a rating system, to benchmark and evaluate these efforts and motivates the participants to strive for improvement. We are proud to be part of this rating system and wish all success to GBCI in their endeavors.”

PEER recognizes industry leaders for improving efficiency, day-to-day reliability and overall resiliency when it comes to severe events, such as flooding and hurricanes. PEER was created in collaboration with industry leaders and the support of key partners, including S&C Electric, the Galvin Foundation, IPP Connect LLC, the International District Energy Association (IDEA) and the Advanced Energy Group LLC and is administered by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), the global certifying body for several sustainability systems including the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED green building program. Like LEED, PEER was designed to grow with the market. PEER is for all power systems and includes guidance for cities, utilities, campuses and transit. The new version of PEER delivers a simple, streamlined system to document sustainability improvements to power systems at different levels.

In 2000, USGBC created LEED as a result of collaboration with the building industry at a time when there was growing demand for greener, healthier buildings, but no clear definition or path forward. Today, LEED is the world’s most widely used green building rating system with more than 93,000 registered and certified projects in 167 countries and regions. Learning from LEED, PEER is positioned to be a similar solution for the energy sector to deliver sustainable, high performing power systems.

Nokia Wins Largest GSM-Rail Contract to modernise Poland’s rail communications

Nokia just won a five-year, turnkey contract with the Polish state-owned line operator PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP/PLK) for a full deployment of its rail modernization technology across the entire country by 2023.

The contract marks Nokia’s largest GSM-R win to-date — ever — and is another step in its expansion beyond traditional comm service providers.

The project will leverage Nokia’s GSM-R, mission-critical IP/MPLS and DWDM optical network to enhance the reliability and safety of the nationwide railway operation. When completed, PKP/PLK will have one of the most extensive, state-of-the-art railway communication networks in Europe — fulfilling the EU’s requirements for the continent-wide standard in rail signaling.

  • Project will support Poland’s state-owned operator in enhancing reliability and safety of nationwide railway operations
  • Contract marks Nokia’s largest GSM-R win to date, and another step in company’s push to expand beyond its traditional communication service provider customer base
  • The five-year turnkey contract covers deployment of GSM-R and mission-critical IP/MPLS and DWDM optical network alongside PKP PLK’s nationwide railway infrastructure
  • Full GSM-R coverage of about 14 000 km of rail tracks expected to be achieved by 2023
On March 29, Nokia announced it had won a contract to revamp Poland’s state-owned railway communications network. The contract is another step forward in the company’s diversification away from phones. The five-year contract with PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe will see Nokia roll out GSM-Railway (GSM-R) technology to cover almost 14,000km of rail tracks across Poland. The project will bring the country’s rail system closer to complying with EU rail traffic management standards. Nokia will also install more than 11,000km of optical fibre for network connection.
Nokia expanded its reach into the telecommunications networks space in 2016 with its speedy acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent
“Nokia is proud and excited to be a trusted partner for Poland’s digitalization, and building the railway communications network is a key part of this,” said Nokia’s Senior Vice President for Global Enterprise and Public Sector, Matthieu Bourguignon, in the statement.“Based on our expertise as the market leader in GSM-R and critical communications networks, our unparalleled experience in turnkey projects and our successful long-term history in large-scale network deployments in Poland, Nokia is a natural choice for this kind of ambitious rollout.”This is not the first major contract landed by Nokia this month. On March 28, Nokia also announced it was chosen by China Mobile, a state-owned Chinese telecoms company, to develop advanced cloud services for both public and private use. The company also expanded its reach into the telecommunications industry in 2016 with its speedy acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent.These moves mark the continuation a strategic shift away from what had been Nokia’s bread and butter business – smartphones – until the company sold its devices business in 2014 following the cratering of its share in the market. In the last quarter of 2007, Nokia commanded just over half the smartphone market, but by the second quarter of 2013 it only had 3.1 percent.

Nokia is the global market leader in GSM-R with 20 customers worldwide, more than 75.000 km railway tracks covered and 20 years’ experience in turnkey projects

Rs 392 crore required for land acquisition and state taxes in the amount of Rs. 534 crore will be satisfied by the state. In total, the state will have to be grouped in Rs 2.187 crore.

Innovative SkyWay technologies: Future Transportation

SkyWay string transport is an energy and transportation communicator of elevated overpass type. It uses electric vehicles on steel wheels riding on specific string rails. The main design differences of this system from other types of railroads of trestle design are pre-stressed tension of the structure, the absence of a continuous solid roadbed, low materials intensity in construction and visual simplicity. The main advantages are economic efficiency, environmental friendliness, durability, reliability, safety and, consequently, high market competitiveness. SkyWay transport is developing in three main areas: high-speed intercity type (up to 500 km/h, and in future, up to 1250 km/h with the transition to a pre-vacuum tube) urban passenger type (up to 150 km/h) and freight type. It has no analogues in its field with the ability to meet the entire range of transportation needs. In future it can be integrated into a unified global energy, information and transportation network, which will allow our civilization to move over to a qualitatively new stage of development. The practical implementation of SkyWay transport systems is under way on-site EcoTechnoPark (on video) – the operating center for innovative developments, demonstration, testing, production, certification and subsequent improvement of SkyWay technology, creation of new generations of transport infrastructure complexes, as well as the development of agroecotechnologies and “Eco-house” technologies.SKYWAY PHILOSOPHY:
SkyWay Technologies
SkyWay Technologies
Transport should be a solution to problems, not their source. The SkyWay system provides passenger and cargo transportation in a separate space – on the ‘second level’ above the ground.

The fact that SkyWay vehicles move above the ground on a specially designed rail-string overpass ensures a number of advantages: optimized aerodynamics, increased speed, unprecedented safety, rational use of land and resources, minimized environmental damage caused by transport. In addition, the cost of construction and operation is significantly lower compared to the existing transport solutions.

General designer of the innovative SkyWay technology and string transport Anatoli Yunitski is a scientist and inventor, the author of over 200 scientific papers, 18 monographs and more than 150 inventions in the spheres of construction, transport, machinebuilding, electronics and chemical industries. The creator of SkyWay and geocosmic transportation systems, as well as a range of transport and infrastructure projects based on string technologies. The leader of two UN projects, the member of the USSR Federation of Cosmonautics. President of the SkyWay Group of Companies. General designer of SkyWay Technologies Co.SkyWay – the concept of an elevated transport system that has no analogues in the world.Main elements of SkyWay transport and infrastructure complex: • uncut pre-stressed rail-string overpass; • rail automobiles on steel wheels characterized by highly aerodynamic design, equipped with an anti-derailment system and a smart system of safety, control, power supply and communications.SkyWay – speed, safety, comfort, affordability, cost effectiveness, sustainability. SkyWay – increased social activities for people. SkyWay – the basis for the information, power, transport and communications network of a new generation.
All types of SkyWay systems are distinguished by energy efficiency, minimal adverse environmental impact and a high safety level of passenger and cargo transportation
It fits harmoniously into the existing infrastructure of any megalopolis. It solves transport problems of large cities by developing a network of high-rise buildings connected with each other by elevated (air) transportation.Cargo SkyWay area of application:• transportation of bulk cargo (ore, building materials, coal, etc.); • transportation of liquid cargo (oil and oil products, natural drinking water, etc.);• transportation of break-bulk cargo (rolled steel, wood, timber, etc.);• transportation of containers and Europallets; • transportation of special cargo(liquefied gases and cryogenic liquids, radioactive and explosive substances, weapons, etc.).

Alstom to supply 54 additional Coradia Stream “Pop” regional trains to Trenitalia

26 March 2018 – Alstom has been awarded four contracts totalling around €330 million by Trenitalia, the Italian national train operator, for the supply of 54 Coradia Stream regional trains. The trains are destined for the Italian regions of Abruzzo (4 trains), Liguria (15 trains), Marche (4 trains) and Veneto (31 trains) as part of the framework agreement signed in 2016 between Alstom and Trenitalia[1]. The 54 additional trains add to the 47 trains already ordered by the Emilia Romagna region in 2016.

Alstom’s Coradia Stream for Trenitalia, dubbed “Pop” by the customer, is the latest generation of trains designed for regional and intercity lines. Coradia Stream is an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) with maximum speed of 160 km/h in the regional version. The train ordered by Trenitalia can transport morethan 300 passengers seated, offering easy accessibility thanks to its low floor. Designed to be eco-friendly, the train is 95% recyclable.

“We are very pleased that Trenitalia and Abruzzo, Liguria, Marche, Veneto have renewed their confidence in Alstom’s Coradia range of regional trains and we hope to get on board with other regions. The “Pop” is proving to be widely appreciated by local authorities and by passengers, who got a glimpse of it in full-scale mock-up form during a recent roadshow,” said Michele Viale, Managing Director Alstom in Italy.

Coradia Stream can be easily customised to different services. Interior layouts and seating arrangements can be modified, to provide for example, more seats for longer journeys, or fewer seats and more standing room for shorter trips. The cars’ interior layout can be adapted to seasons and specific needs: it is possible to add bicycle or ski racks, electric sockets, Wi-Fi connection, vending machines for drinks and snacks, multimedia areas, areas for working or relaxation. Aboard the Coradia Stream, comfort, space, and light are maximised by larger windows, while advanced services, such as infotainment, audio and video feeds and a live video surveillance system, ensure comfort and security.

The Coradia Stream “Pop” trains are manufactured by Alstom in Italy. Project development, most of the manufacturing and certification are performed at Alstom’s site in Savigliano, Cuneo. Design and manufacturing of the traction systems and auxiliary switches takes place at the Sesto San Giovanni plant (Milan), and the on-board signalling systems are delivered by the Bologna site.

Yann Delabriere, who is currently Lead Director of Alstom’s Board would be appointed as Vice-chairman of the Board of Directors as independent director. It follows the announcement made on September 26, 2017 that Henri Poupart-Lafarge will continue to serve as CEO of the combined company as well as be a member of the Board of Directors. These nominations are subject to the approval of Alstom shareholders as well as completion of the deal itself following the approval by various authorities.
With the signing of the BCA, we have reached an important milestone on the way to building a new leader capable of tackling the challenges of tomorrow’s mobility. Both companies are working diligently and in a very good spirit to progress towards closing. These first nominations illustrate the companies’ commitment to balance in the governance of the future company,” said Henri Poupart-Lafarge, Chairman and CEO of Alstom.
Roland Busch is the best person we could nominate for this important task,” said Joe Kaeser, President and CEO of Siemens AG. “Not only is he an expert in global mobility of many years standing. As a member of the Atos Board of Directors, he has also gained valuable experience in the integration and management of German-French industrial collaborations. Precisely this consideration was of key importance to me in his nomination to this responsible position.”“Siemens Alstom has all the prerequisites for becoming a European success story”, said Roland Busch. “I’m honored to take on this important role for a very attractive company in a growing market. I’m looking forward to becoming part of a strong team – and in particular to working together with Yann Delabriere and continuing the very solid and close collaboration with Henri Poupart-Lafarge.”“Yann Delabriere’s nomination as Vice-chairman recognises his expertise and achievements as Lead Director of Alstom. His presence will ensure continuity and bring to the new group his extensive industrial and financial experiences,” added Poupart-Lafarge.“I’m very pleased to be taking part in this new chapter of Alstom’s history. This is the birth of new champion, uniquely equipped to cater to the world’s rapidly changing mobility needs. I look forward to working with such an experienced leadership team,” said Yann Delabriere. The Board of Directors of the combined company will consist of 11 members, six of whom – including the Chairman – are to be appointed by Siemens. Four independent members and the CEO will complete the Board.Closing is expected at the end of calendar year 2018. The transaction is subject to the approval of Alstom shareholders at the company’s Shareholders’ Meeting, planned to be held in July 2018. The transaction is also subject to approval by relevant regulatory authorities, including foreign investment clearance by the French Ministry for the Economy and Finance and approval by anti-trust authorities as well as the confirmation by the French capital market authority (AMF) that no mandatory takeover offer has to be launched by Siemens following completion of the contribution. Siemens has already initiated the internal carve-out process of its mobility business and other related businesses in order to prepare for the combination with Alstom. The new group will be headquartered in Saint-Ouen, France, and continue to be listed on the Paris stock exchange. As part of this transaction, Siemens will receive newly issued shares in the combined company representing 50 percent of the share capital of Alstom on a fully diluted basis.
