PATNA (Metro Rail News): Patna Junction metro station has reached the diaphragm wall (D-wall) grabbing stage, with reinforcement cage binding for the 4th D-wall panel currently underway, as tweeted by Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC).

Diaphragm walls play a crucial role in underground metro construction. These reinforced-concrete structures support the surrounding soil, prevent water from entering the excavation area and maintain ground stability during deep excavation. They also form the outer boundary of the underground station, ensuring safe and stable construction.

To pace up the progress on-site, traffic diversions and change in mobility routes have been implemented in phases around Station Road and Dak Bungalow to minimise disruption in the busy spots.

Why does Patna Junction station of Patna Metro matter?

Integration of Multi-Transport options: By connecting two metro corridors with the railway network, the station is expected to improve multimodal connectivity and provide commuters with more convenient travel options.

Reduce traffic congestion and pollution: The availability of multiple public transport options is expected to encourage commuters to reduce their dependence on private vehicles, potentially lowering road congestion and vehicular emissions.

According to The Times of India, the upcoming station will have two platforms, with the Corridor 2 platform positioned above the Corridor 1 platform. The underground station is also planned to feature four entry and exit points, eight lifts and eight escalators. Its concourse will be located approximately 8 metres below ground level.
