Bengaluru: The ambitious plan to starting Ultra High-Speed Maglev Rail link project is going on slow pace. Bengaluru: Questions are now raised on Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) strategy on splitting civil work contract last year. The metro corporation has split work in three packages last year in February. This was done to speed up work on construction of the 18-km corridor on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).But the strategy is raising eyebrows as the contract is likely to go to one bidder. As per the details the lowest bidder for all the three packages would be one contractor – IL&FS. With this detail emerging, many question BMRCL’s strategy and on-time completion of project.When the financial bids for one package out of three was opened in July the lowest bidder was IL&FS Engineering and Construction Company. This was the stretch starting from Silk Board and Bellandur.Several sources from within and outside BMRCL think that IL&FS might end up getting all the three projects. This is based on the information that the Hyderabad-headquartered construction firm has quoted less than other four companies bidding for the two packages.Former managing director of BMRCL, Mahendra Jain had shared that the 18km stretch work will be split in three packages. This was done to speed up work and ensure timely project completion. The MD had asserted that having multiple contractors will help.BMRCL had also stated that giving work to one contractor for the work would like putting all the eggs in one basket.The MD while interacting with Economic Times had advocated the idea that there should be a clause that stops contractors from winning contracts in all the packages as it was there in the tender condition of underground work.During the bidding process six companies had participated for each of the three packages. This was for the 18-km stretch starting from Central Silk Board-KR Puram metro project. In the first stage Sadbhav Engineering was disqualified on technical grounds.The other five companies include – ITD Cementation India, Nagarjuna Construction Company, JMC Projects, Simplex Infrastructure and IL&FS.For the first package IL&FS emerged as the winner with lowest bid. It had quoted Rs 433.26 crore for constructing 7 km stretch. New Delhi:Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has collected a fine of Rs 90 lakh from June 2017 to May 2018 for violation of rule to not sit on the floor of Metro while travelling. While most fines are being taken from commuters who violates this rule. The highest penalty of Rs 39,20,220 has been collected from the people travelling on the yellow line. Apart from this fine has also been imposed on different violating activities they are like Carrying an objectionable goods, illegally entering, walking on metro tracks, throwing garbage, traveling without proper tokens, obstacles in the work of officials. According to an Right to Information (RTI) the Rs 38 lakh as fines over 11 months from those caught sitting on the floor of the train. The 19026 people were punished for sitting on the floor while travelling. If you sit on the floor, you have to pay a fine of Rs 200 rupees. There was also a case of climbing the roof of a train, which also imposed the fine for Rs 50. According to the DMRC, from June to May this year, 51,441 people gave fine and total 89, 94,380 rupees have been collected.The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that the highest amount, Rs 38 lakh, was collected for squatting on the floor.A recent statement that in view of a large number of cases of violation of rules in Metro premises, the administration has authorised station personnel to directly impose fines up to Rs 500 and realise penalties for offences such as squatting, littering, nuisance, travelling with undervalued tokens and obstructing officials on duty, said DMRC.At present Delhi Metro has an over 210-km network across Delhi- NCR. This 11 Km will be include 4.29 Km elevated , 0.5 Km ramp and 6.3 km underground.The design of North-South corridor consists two elevated sections, with a total distance of 19 km which is separated by a 3 km tunnel. Since the rent was not increased for 9 years, the maximum fare was increased simultaneously. He said that passenger hours after the increase in the fares of the metro but now the number of passengers in the metro is also increasing and the revenue also increased. If the revenue of the metro is good then there is no need to increase the rent in 2019. He said that in collaboration with the Chief Minister, we are working to make Delhi’s better in world-class transportation system.Concessional Passes for students:He said that instead of increasing the rent, we are considering how to get rid of the students who are more concerned about the increase in rent. For this, the DMRC has asked the students and the elderly to create a technical-based system, which allows the passengers to be classified as rentals. Let’s say that on the recommendation of the rent assessment committee last year, the fare of the metro has increased twice in the interval of six months. After that the number of frequent travelers has decreased. But now DMRC claims that the number of passengers has increased from 26 lakhs per day to 28 lakhs a day for almost a month.What is the recommendation of the Fare Fixation Committee?The Fourth Rental Committee for Metro has increased the metro fare twice in the year 2017. Along with that, every year from 01 January 2019, every slab of the rent was recommended to increase the maximum rent of 7 percent. It will continue to grow every year until the next hire scheduling committee is formed. In order to fix the metro fare, the rent assessment committee should be formed every three years.

In what is seen as a shocking incident, two women shouted help and they ended up robbing men who came forward to help them. The entire incident took place near of the Delhi Metro Stations.The police have nabbed the accused who are identified as Muskan (25) and Sweety (24). These two used charm select few people and then rob them of their belongings and cask.Police arrested these two accused near Moolchand Metro Station in Delhi. Both of them were nabbed for allegedly looting men on pretext of asking for help. They would lure then, once in their net they would steal all that the helper had.The incident came to light on August 4 at around 9.30 pm. Police patrolling near Moolchand Metro station spotted one person running behind two women.Sensing suspicion, police jumped into action and managed to nab both the women. Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast), Chinmoy Biswal shared with media persons that they intercepted them and nabbed on time.During interrogation the man who said that he was slapped and robbed by Sweety and Muskan. Police recovered the purse and both women accused were arrested added DCP Biswal.The complainant during the investigation shared that he was on his way home on his motorcycle. When he reached near the Delhi metro station at around 9.30pm he was altered by two women shouting for ‘help’.When the complainant stopped to help, he was taken aback with Muskan slapping him. This move comes after uproar from commuters who found it difficult to recharge their cards.This move has been welcomed by metro commuters who were facing problem for a long time. Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) plans to set up automated top-up machines at key places in the city. This moves comes in wake of customers complain regarding long queues at to-up travel card counter. To ease the problem, BMRCL plans to have top-up machines at various places including bus stops.Based on the current data, 60 % commuters use ‘Smart Card’ or ‘Varshik Card’. This card offers 15% discount to rider on each trip.Ajay Seth, BMCRL’s managing director shares that the to-up automated machines to be kept on places with high footfall rates.Seth adds that they plan to put the automated top-up machines at TTMC centres of BMTC, prominent banks as well as metro stations. They are also considering other places where these machines can be placed.The MD however, did not give a time frame as to when these machines will be installed.From February this year, BMCRL had allowed to increase the storage value on the card. At Metro stations if top-up facility is used, then commuters can deposit around Rs 3,000. If the same is done online, then they can add up to Rs 2,500.Another problem encountered is the ticket-vending machines at metro stations. Off late they have been functioning erratically. Metro officials are dependent on external agencies to mend and rectify the error. Post demonetisation, the machines need calibration as per Bangalore Metro official.In terms of further development, BMRCL has had a meeting with delegates from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The delegation was there in the city.Seth informs that they had a dialogue with the delegates of JICA. All the six stations of new corridor of Delhi Pink line metro are approved from Green building Council of India. Kolkata:Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (KMRCL) plans microsurgery. This is to remove key hurdle of tunnel boring machines (TBMs) that East-West Metro corridor encountered. The Kolkata Metro officials are using international method to remove the hurdle.The metro officials are facing trouble from the Esplanade to Sealdah stretch. They now plan to employ Australian tunnelling method to remove the hurdle. Five steel H-Piles blocking the route just beyond Esplanade station will be manually removed.Parashuram Singh, managing director, KMRCL explains that a 40m-long and 3m-wide pilot tunnel will be manually dug linking the two tunnels that the TBMs will excavate. To avoid the earth from caving in, engineers will employ a technique called Fore-poling. As the excavation progresses, sharp metal poles will be employed to form a cover. The H-piles will then be cut by the workers.Four more such piles will be cut through to clear the hurdle ads Singh.By middle of August work will begin and continue for three months. Metro officials inform that two TBMs that have by now been lowered underground at the Esplanade station site can commence work by the October end.
