JSPL becomes Greatest Wealth Creator worldwide in the Steel Sector

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): The year 2020 has indeed been a roller coaster ride for India as well as the global economy. COVID-19 pandemic had sparked off an unprecedented crisis of significant proportions with economic activities coming to a screeching halt.

When big giants from different industries in India were struggling with their production & sales, JSPL decided to keep its mills running as it turned its focus to export markets like South East Asia, Middle East and Europe to offset the loss in domestic volumes.

The company’s DNA of searching for opportunities in the face of challenges not only allowed JSPL to report a Year on Year growth in shipments in 1QFY21 when the domestic peers reported a sharp drop in volumes but also help support the Indian economy by earning valuable forex.

With the nation gradually unlocking in phases, the recovery has been equally surprising. JSPL has benefited from the sharp economic revival with the company posting 16% Year on Year growth in standalone steel production and 50% Year on Year EBITDA growth in 1HFY21.

JSPL stock price has also mirrored the economic ups and downs during the year with the scrip rising by 4.3x since hitting 52 weeks low in early April.

“JSPL’s unflinching focus to grow volumes by sweating assets coupled with an unwavering commitment to strengthening the balance sheet has helped the company emerge as the largest wealth creator (from the Apr’20 bottom) in the global steel sector in 2020. With more legs to the economic recovery, we firmly believe JSPL’s outlook to be even brighter”, said Amit Dixit, Vice President Institutional Equities at Edelweiss Securities.

PM Modi inaugurates the New Bhaupur- New Khurja section

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the New Bhaupur- New Khurja section and the Operation Control Centre of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor today through video conference. Union Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister expressed happiness on seeing the modern rail infrastructure project getting implemented on the ground. He said today when the first goods train runs in the Khurja Bhaupur freight corridor we can hear the roar of Self-reliant India.
The Prime Minister said Infrastructure is the biggest source of any nation’s strength. He said as India is moving fast towards the path of becoming a big economic power, then the best connectivity is the priority of the country. He said the Government is working on every aspect of modern connectivity for the last six years with this in mind. He said the Government is focussing on the five wheels of highways, railways, airways, waterways, and i-ways. He said today’s inauguration of a large section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor is a big step in this direction.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for these dedicated freight corridors. He said as the population grew, the Economy grew, the demand for freight increased manifold. He said since both Passenger trains and Goods trains ply on the same track, the speed of the goods train is slow. He said when the speed of the goods train is slow, and there is an interruption in place, obviously, the cost of transportation will be high. He added being expensive, our products lose the competition in our markets of the country as well as abroad. He said the Dedicated Freight Corridor was planned to change this situation.

Initially, 2 Dedicated Freight Corridors were planned. Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor from Ludhiana to Dankuni. This route has coal mines, Thermal power plants, and industrial cities. Feeder routes are also being made for these. Western Dedicated Freight Corridor from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust to Dadri. In this corridor, ports like Mundra, Kandla, Pipavav, Dawri, and Hazira would be served through feeder routes. He said the Industrial corridor of Delhi-Mumbai and Amritsar-Kolkata are being developed around both these Freight Corridor. He said similarly North to south and east to west Corridors are also being planned.
The Prime Minister said with such dedicated freight corridors problems of delayed passenger trains would be resolved. Due to this speed of the freight train also would increase 3 times and would be able to carry double the volume of goods. He added when goods trains arrive on time the cost of our Logistics Network would be cheaper.
The Prime Minister said Industry, businessmen, farmers, or consumers, everyone is going to benefit from this dedicated freight corridor. He said the freight corridor will boost eastern India which is left behind industrially. He said about 60 per cent of the corridor falls in UP. It would attract a lot of industries towards UP. He said Kisan Rail would be benefited due to this dedicated freight corridor. Farmers can send their produce through rail to any big markets across the country, safely and at a low price. Now through this Freight corridor, their produce would reach even faster.

“With the launch of these fully automated Driverless Train operations (DTO), India enters into the elite league of few countries having this facility in their Metro system. The fully automated trains will reduce human intervention in operations and offer more reliability and safety for the commuters. This system also brings more flexibility in trains in operation. As a result, the number of trains in service can be regulated based on demand dynamically without any dependence on the availability of the crew. Since these trains operate on communication-based train control (signalling) system, they can be run with headway as high as 90 seconds to offer more carrying capacity”, the DMRC said.

In DTO, initially, the train operator will be present on the train to instil a sense of confidence and assistance. DTO’s higher level of diagnostic features will help move from conventional Time-Based Maintenance to Condition Based Maintenance. This will also reduce maintenance downtime of trains.

The NCMC service enables passengers from any part of the country travelling on the Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line to use their NCMC compliant RuPay debit card for seamless travel. The same card can also be used for shopping, banking transactions etc. across the country. DMRC’s system will be able to accept transactions from 23 banks through the RuPay debit card issued by them.

DMRC is planning to similarly upgrade its entire existing network by 2022 to facilitate the travel by this NCMC compliant Rupay Debit card. The existing Delhi Metro smart cards, tokens (currently not in use due to Covid 19 pandemic), QR Codes, etc., will also continue to remain in use. In addition, all upcoming corridors of Phase-IV will also be built with NCMC compliant Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system at the stations”, it said.

Having set high benchmarks in construction as well as operations, DMRC is now working on developing indigenous technologies in line with the Government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ by indigenous development of many systems/ sub-systems of Metro.
In March, the services of the Delhi Metro were halted for the first time ever to curb the spread of the Coronavirus virus pandemic. This crisis was turned into an opportunity by DMRC’s Operations and Maintenance team as a number of important maintenance and overhaul activities were taken up and completed, which otherwise would have been difficult to execute when the services were operational.
The HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems of the trains were cleaned to ensure consistent cooling. In addition, large scale renovation work was executed on the Dilshad Garden – Rithala Red Line corridor as it is DMRC’s oldest corridor. Subsequently, from 7th September 2020, the services were resumed in a graded manner following all Covid protocols.
