MAHARASHTRA (Metro Rail News): Central Railway has completed the safety inspection and assessment for approximately 340 Km of Railway Tracks in Pune, Solanpur, and Nagpur Divisions of the zone. Kavach 4.0 is India’s indigenous automatic train protection system, designed to enhance railway safety and operational reliability. It is designed to meet Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL-4) requirements and helps prevent train collisions.

A senior officer stated, “We recently completed the assessment on a 134 km route between Ahilyanagar and the Yeola section of Pune Division. This inspection brings the total completed Kavach assessment on CR to 337km in Nagpur, Solapur and Pune divisions of the zone.” This system improves overall train operations across the railway network by preventing signal passing at danger, controlling train speed and automatically applying brakes during overspeeding, thereby reducing collision risks.

The approximately 134 km Ahilyanagar-Yeola section, which covers 12 railway stations, has been equipped with the required infrastructure to facilitate communication between the train and the system. The system monitors the train speed, direction and route traffic. The Amla-Chhindwara section spanning 104 km in Nagpur division and the Daund-Kurduwadi section spanning 99 km route have also been completed.

As per TOI, “An Italy-based team conducted the independent safety assessment. It involved comprehensive testing and verification of critical safety features, including overspeed protection, permanent speed restriction monitoring, automatic whistling at level crossings and prevention of signal passing at danger,” the officer stated.

These features are intended to improve railway safety and support reliable train operations across the assessed sections.
