CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): 6 firms submitted bids for 2 different contracts to commission the electrification system for lines 3 and 5 of the Chennai Metro (OHE, RSS, ASS, & SCADA) after Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) released technical bids on 17th October.

Both of these lines, which are now under construction as part of Chennai Metro’s 118.9 km Phase 2 project, would connect Madhavaram – SIPCOT (Line-3, 45.813 km) and Madhavaram – Sholinganallur (Line-5, 47 km) with a combination of elevated and underground stations.

The 25 km Madhavaram Milk Colony – Sholinganallur stretch of Line-3 and the 23 km Madhavaram Milk Colony – CMBT section of Line-5 are covered under these two electrification system contracts.

CMRL had floated tenders for both contracts in October 2021 with an unknown estimate and 2350-day (6.44 year) completion deadlines.

Bidders for OHE Contract are:

Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd.

KEC International Ltd.

Larsen & Toubro Ltd.

Linxon India Pvt Ltd.

Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd.

Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd.

The work includes: Design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, training and commissioning of OHE and Switching Stations for CMRL Phase II Corridor 3 (From Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur) and Corridor 5 (Madhavaram Milk Colony to CMBT, including Depot at Madhavaram)
