RITES Wins DPR Contract of Kochi Metro Phase 3

Kochi (Metro Rail News): Kochi Metro progressed as Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. (KMRL). announced  RITES Ltd. as the lowest Bidder for the contract to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Kochi Metro’s Phase 3 project. 

In January 2025, KMRL floated the tender for this consultancy contract with a 180-day deadline.  

Contracts Scope of Work 

Kochi Metro’s Phase 3 project is planned as a 14 km northern extension of the existing metro corridor, Line-1, which currently spans 27.96 km from Aluva to Tripunithura. This extension will connect Aluva to Angamaly, passing through Cochin International Airport (COK) at Nedumbassery.

Key Details of Phase 3:

  1. Route Expansion – The metro will extend from Aluva to Angamaly, integrating the airport into the network.
  2. Current & Future Length – Presently, Kochi Metro’s Line-1 is being developed in multiple phases:
    • Phase 1, 1A, and 1B have resulted in a functional corridor from Aluva to Tripunithura (27.96 km).
    • Phase 3 will add 14 km, increasing the total corridor length to approximately 42 km.

KMRL’s Brief Scope: Request for Proposal for Consultancy Services for the Preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Phase III Corridor of Kochi Metro Rail Project from Aluva to Angamaly with Airport Connectivity

The elevated Line-1, which connects Aluva to Tripunithura, was constructed in phases referred to as 1, 1A, and 1B. Upon the completion of Phase 3, the total length of the metro Line will extend to approximately 42 kilometres.

Additionally, the scope of the contract includes conducting a feasibility study for extending the metro line to Global City in Ayyampuzha. This site, which spans 358 acres, is an integral part of the Kochi-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (KBIC) development initiative.
