Pune: The much-awaited Pune Mahiti Kendra of Pune Metro Rail Project will become operational beginning this Independence Day. The Centre will be inaugurated on August 15th at its proposed location at Chatrapati Sambhaji Park near Bal Gandharva. Apart from Maha Metro officials, children from local Lal Bahadur School would also be present on the occasion.
After starting project work almost all over the city, Maha Metro Pune is all set to launch another user friendly initiative to inform citizens about its prestigious project. The proposed `Information Centre’ or Mahiti Kendra will help in disseminating information related to the project. This Information Centre will remain functional throughout the day from 7 am to 11 pm.
The Information Centre will be replica of Metro train; a metro passenger coach with matching interiors will function as Information Centre. This has been done to ensure that citizens get a feel of Metro train. A team of dedicated staff would be posted there to guide citizens and give them information about the metro project.
Citizens can walk in and get their queries addressed at this Centre. It is aimed to provide comprehensive information about Pune Metro Project including latest developments, project updates, salient features, stations, routes, benefits, etc.
The exteriors of the proposed model are being made using materials like FRP and ACP, while the interiors are an exact lookalike of the metro coach with Stainless Steel, Glass and PVC matting.  An electronic display system will also be put up at the Centre so that citizens can browse and get all the relevant details that they seek.
In all, 3 electronic displays would be installed inside the coach which will inform citizens about the project through PPTs and informative films. The coach graphics have been specially designed to reflect the flavor of Pune, highlighting its monuments and structures.
It is also planned to invite educational institutions, social organizations and citizen forum to get first hand information about the project. Another highlight of the model to be positioned there is depiction of Driving Cab, wherein citizens can visualize interiors of the actual cab and its controls. Apart from this, the coach will have an automatic self opening/closing bi-parting sliding door which will function exactly as in actual Metro coaches.
The coach graphics have been specially designed to reflect the flavor of Pune, highlighting the monuments and structures of the city. Entrance to this model will be from Bal Gandharva side of Chatrapati Sambhaji Park. An informative gallery is also planned in the premises which will help the citizens to understand other features of the project as well. Maha Metro Pune invites Punekars to visit its Centre to get firsthand information of the project.
