Bangalore (Metro Rail News): NCC Ltd. bored and concreted the first pile to officially kick off construction on the 37 KM Airport Line (Blue Line) that would connect Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to KR Puram on February 13, 2022.

This new metro line, which is part of the Bangalore Metro Phase 2B project, comprises three civil packages that span 11 to 15 km.

In November 2021, NCC was awarded three LOA contracts to build 15 elevated stations and viaduct construction, with timeframes ranging from 24 to 27 months. In January 2022, their multiple teams began test piling and other pre-construction work.

A bridge between Hebbal and Bagalur Cross (chainage 10072m to 21500m), a 250m pocket track, and five elevated stations at Hebbal, Kodigehalli, Jakkur Cross, Yelahanka, and Bagalur Cross are also part of the civil package.

On Monday, the fourth pile was set at a depth of 28 metres from the cut-off level. The pier’s substructure will be completed by casting a pile cap on top. Package 2 has approximately 576 piers for the viaduct and stations, implying that NCC will be boring approximately 2300-2400 piles. Piling is expected to begin by the end of the month for Package 1 (KR Puram – Hebbal) and Package 3 (Bagalur Cross – KIAL Airport). The city’s Airport Line is now officially under construction due to this development.
