BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): On April 25, 2023, in the presence of Mr. Jon Behrens, Assistant Vice President, LORAM, USA, and Shri Amit Banerjee, Chairman & Managing Director, BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited), BEML delivered the first rake of an indigenously constructed rail grinding machine (RGM96) to M/s. LORAM MAINTENANCE BY WAY, USA.
RGM96 is currently being produced for the first time outside of the USA. The gadget will probably soon be put into operation by Indian Railways. This machine will run at 100 kph during hauling operations, and grinding activities will be at 22 kph. A minimum 25% improvement in the track’s life cycle leads to significant cost savings for Indian Railways.
The self-propelled RGM96 is designed for corrective and preventive rail grinding, which improves the worn-out profile of the rail head and removes fatigue material with microcracks and other surface flaws. The eight-car rake comprises the front control car, four grind cars, one water waggon, and two camp coaches.
The Railway Board awarded M/s. LORAM is a contract to supply the Indian Railway with ten rakes of 96-stone RGM (RGM96) machines. For local manufacturing, M/s. LORAM teamed with BEML as part of the GoI’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.”
