Lucknow Metro is the rapid transit system serving the capital of Uttar Pradesh, built and run by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC). It opened in 2017 and was delivered quickly, becoming one of India’s faster metro builds and a daily fixture for commuters along its corridor.
The operational network is the North-South Red Line, running about 23 km from Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport through the city centre to Munshipulia. It combines elevated sections with an underground stretch through the historic core around Charbagh. A second, east-west corridor is planned to cross the first and widen the network.
UPMRC builds and runs the system, and its Lucknow project became the template for the corporation’s later work in Kanpur and Agra. The next step is the east-west corridor, which is moving through planning and approvals. Updates on that corridor, along with tenders and contract awards, arrive as it advances.
