Delhi (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Metro’s Lajpat Nagar – Saket G Block Metro Line (A spur of the Golden Line) will come up as India’s first metro corridor designed to operate with 3-coach trains. As part of Delhi Metro Phase 4, this 8 km corridor will be the second smallest metro line in the Delhi Metro network.
A First for India: 3-Coach Metro Trains
Unlike conventional metro systems that typically utilize 4, 6, or 8-coach configurations, this line comprising three coaches has been specifically designed to accommodate short-distance urban travel.
The Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block corridor is being developed with a thorough analysis of passenger flow patterns. The implementation of a smaller train configuration offers a cost-effective and agile solution that will increase the operational efficiency and provide a high frequency of service to meet the needs of daily commuters.
The adoption of a smaller train format results in reduced energy consumption per trip, thereby representing both an environmentally responsible choice and a financially sound decision.
Delhi Metro’s Lajpat Nagar – Saket G Block Line
DMRC has recently secured funding for three metro lines, including the Lajpat Nagar – Saket G Block Metro Line in Phase 4. They signed a loan agreement worth ₹ 4309.53 crores with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
