Delhi Metro Invites Bids for Supply of 500 Million Units of Renewable Energy

In yet another major push towards the adoption of renewable energy sources for the operation of the Delhi Metro, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited bids for the supply of 500 Million Units (MUs) of renewable energy every year.

DMRC has always been committed to providing a clean, green, and hassle-free public transport facility to its commuters. To meet a significant portion of its existing power demand, DMRC is already taking approximately 350 MUs annually from Rewa Solar Park and generating 40 MUs annually from Rooftop Solar Plants installed on the roofs of stations, depots, and staff colonies of DMRC. The present Renewable energy penetration in DMRC is about 33 percent of the total power usage during the operational hours and nearly 65 percent during daytime Metro operations.

image 4

The Delhi Metro is inviting bids to select a ‘Solar Power Developer’ for setting up a Grid connected Captive Generating plant along with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) anywhere in India to supply 500 MUs of renewable energy every year to DMRC in Delhi and NCR. This is a step in supporting India’s transition towards a cleaner and more resilient energy future.

DMRC’s primary objective of calling the bid for more Renewable Energy (RE) power is to increase the share of RE power in its power portfolio from the current 33% to greater than 60% of its total energy requirement (including Phase-IV network expansion). With this initiative, DMRC will become the first Metro rail project in India to avail greater than 60% Renewable power for its transition towards sustainable and low-carbon operations.

image 5

The stipulated completion period of the project shall be 15 months from the date of award, and the Power Purchase Agreement period will be of 25 years. The bid process shall be implemented as per approved government norms. This is an effort by DMRC to contribute towards the Government of India’s proposed five-fold strategy of “Panchamrit”, which comprises five climate action goals announced at COP 26.

Bullet Train Project: 10th Steel Bridge Completed in Ahmedabad

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has achieved another milestone with the successful launching of its 10th steel bridge in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The 60-meter-long bridge was installed over a Western Railway facility (laundry) situated adjacent to existing railway tracks.

image 2

Following several months of detailed planning and logistical preparation, the bridge launching was executed with remarkable precision in just seven hours. This is the first steel bridge launched within the Ahmedabad district for the project.

For the transverse launching process, the bridge was pre-assembled at a height of 16.5 meters above ground level on temporary trestles. It was then side-slewed into its final position using two semi-automatic jacks, each with a 200-ton capacity, supported by locking trolleys to ensure stability and control.

image 3

The bridge weighs approximately 485 metric tons and measures 12 meters in height and 11.4 meters in width. It was fabricated at a specialized workshop in Wardha (Nagpur, Maharashtra) and transported to Ahmedabad using custom-designed trailers. The bridge construction involved the use of around 20,360 Tor-Shear Type High Strength (TTHS) bolts, complemented by a C5 protective paint coating system and elastomeric bearings to enhance durability and reduce vibration impact.

A total 28 steel bridges are planned for the entire corridor, out of which 17 are in Gujarat and 11 in Maharashtra.

Bengaluru Suburban Rail: K-RIDE Terminates the Contract with L&T for Line 2

BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): The Bengaluru Suburban Rail project has encountered a delay following K-RIDE’s recent decision to re-tender the remaining civil works for Corridor 2, which stretches from Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara. The contract for this line, originally awarded to Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in 2022, has been terminated due to multiple factors affecting project execution.

In 2022, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) bagged the civil works contract for Corridor 2 of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail project. However, the project faced several delays, and L&T was unable to meet certain contractual requirements. As a result, the agreement was terminated.

L&T had stopped construction activities in March 2024, stating that the delay in acquiring the required land had caused its resources to remain idle, which led to financial losses. L&T has officially terminated the contracts for the Mallige Line and Kanka Line.

The Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project is a ₹15,767-crore project. It will create a 148-kilometre suburban rail network across four corridors to connect major residential, commercial, and industrial areas.

The Line 2, also known as the Mallige Line, will run from Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara. The corridor covers a total distance of 24.866 km, including 7.723 km of elevated sections and 17.143 km of at-grade sections. It is an important route as it links the eastern and western parts of Bengaluru and connects with other suburban rail and metro lines, improving overall city connectivity.

On 6 October, K-RIDE announced that fresh tenders will soon be invited to complete the pending works, with the move expected to streamline construction and put the project back on track.

PM Modi Inaugurates Final Stretch of Mumbai Metro Line 3

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): The Mumbai Metro network achieved a major milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the final section of the Mumbai Metro Line 3, covering a 10.99 km stretch between Worli and Cuffe Parade. With this inauguration, the entire 33.5 km underground corridor is now open for passenger operations.

G2t96 0WwAAgwKH 1

The Mumbai Metro Line 3 project was implemented in phases and marks the city’s first fully underground metro line. Phase 1, connecting Aarey Colony to the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), began operations on 7 October 2024. This was followed by Phase 2, linking BKC to Worli, which was launched on 9 May 2025. The final stretch now seamlessly extends services up to the southern tip of Mumbai at Cuffe Parade.

Commenced in January 2017, the ambitious project took nine years to complete, with tunnelling operations concluding in November 2022. The line traverses key commercial and industrial hubs such as SEEPZ, BKC, Lower Parel, Fort, Nariman Point, and Cuffe Parade, reducing travel time between North and South Mumbai.

A crucial highlight of Line 3 is its direct connectivity to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), providing enhanced transit convenience for daily commuters.

The Mumbai Metro Line 3 was developed at an estimated cost of ₹37,276 crore and is  expected to transform urban mobility in the city. The fare structure ranges from ₹10 to ₹70, making it both accessible and affordable for a wide range of commuters.
