Railway Mishap: Korba Passenger Train and Goods Train Collide on Bilaspur–Howrah Route

BILASPUR(Metro Rail News): A collision took place on Tuesday evening (4 November) between the Korba passenger train and a stationary goods train near Lalkhadan in Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh, along the Bilaspur–Howrah main line of the South East Central Railway (SECR). The incident resulted in derailment and damage to rolling stock and overhead equipment in the affected section. The impact resulted in the derailment of multiple coaches and damage to railway infrastructure in the section.

According to preliminary information, several passengers have sustained injuries, and there are unconfirmed reports of casualties. Railway and local administration officials have yet to release the official figures. Following the incident, rescue and medical relief teams from the Railway’s Accident Relief Train (ART) and Accident Relief Medical Equipment (ARME) units were promptly mobilised from nearby stations. Cranes and track machines have been deployed to remove derailed coaches and clear the affected line section.

Train movement on the Bilaspur–Howrah corridor, one of the busiest routes connecting eastern and central India, has been completely suspended. Several express and freight services have been cancelled, short-terminated, or diverted through alternate routes to manage operational flow. The overhead traction (OHE) system, signalling circuits, and track alignment in the affected block have sustained damage, which railway officials estimate may take several hours to restore.

The incident highlights the urgent need for the implementation of Automatic Train Protection (ATP) systems such as Kavach to prevent collisions across Indian Railways’ network.

DP World, DPA & Nevomo Collaborate to Deploy MagRail Technology at Deendayal Port

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): DP World signed an agreement with the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) and Nevomo to introduce a magnetic propulsion system that allows self-propelled rail movement of bulk cargo and containers at Deendayal Port.

The system will use Nevomo’s MagRail Booster technology to enable self-driven rail movement without traditional locomotives. This collaboration aims to test the technology in actual port operations and support the shift toward cleaner and more efficient port logistics in India. This MoU was signed in August during India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai.

As part of the agreement, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), DP World, and Nevomo will work together to build and test a 750-metre MagRail Booster pilot track within the port. In addition, a detailed feasibility study will be carried out to explore the wider use of MagRail technology at other Indian ports, in line with the Government of India’s PM Gati Shakti Master Plan and Harit Sagar Green Port Guidelines.

The system will use the existing rail tracks, with only minor modifications to the current rolling stock, removing the need for any new track construction. This setup will allow for quick and low-cost implementation with little impact on port operations.

On this collaboration, Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), said, “This partnership marks an important milestone in Deendayal Port’s journey towards technological modernisation and sustainable growth. By introducing MagRail innovation in collaboration with DP World, we are taking a decisive step towards automating cargo movement and setting new standards in operational efficiency. This initiative not only strengthens India’s port infrastructure but also reinforces our commitment to building greener, smarter gateways that support the nation’s long-term trade and logistics ambitions”.

Shri Yuvraj Narayan, the Deputy CEO and Chief Financial Officer of DP World, said, “This agreement with Deendayal Port Authority and Nevomo marks a pivotal step in reimagining how cargo moves within India’s ports. By facilitating the implementation of MagRail technology at Deendayal Port with Nevomo, we are showcasing India’s readiness to adopt next-generation logistics that are faster, safer, and more sustainable. This initiative sets a benchmark for future port modernisation across the country, turning innovation into a blueprint for scalable, greener infrastructure.”

Shri Harjinder (Harj) Dhaliwal, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Nevomo, said, “We are proud to partner with Deendayal Port and DP World to bring the MagRail technology to India – one of the most dynamic logistics markets in the world. This collaboration demonstrates how magnetic rail systems retrofitted to existing assets can enhance existing infrastructure, improving efficiency and reducing carbon emissions without costly overhauls.”

DMRC MD Reviews Pollution Control Measures at Delhi Metro Phase-IV Construction Sites

DELHI (Metro Rail News): Dr Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), conducted an inspection of the under-construction section of the Krishna Park Extension–R.K. Ashram Marg Corridor under Phase IV to assess the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

1761732698727

The inspection covered key construction sites at Ashok Vihar and Derawal Nagar, where Dr. Kumar reviewed ongoing site activities and the measures adopted to mitigate dust and emissions in response to the increasing pollution levels in the National Capital Region. Dr. Kumar directed the officials to ensure strict adherence to all environmental and safety guidelines prescribed by the authorities at the construction sites.

Since the commencement of construction activities, DMRC has implemented a series of measures to minimise the environmental impact of its operations and prevent additional contribution to the existing pollution levels in the National Capital Region. These measures include regular water sprinkling to control dust emissions, wheel washing of vehicles before they exit construction zones to prevent mud and debris from spreading onto public roads, proper covering and storage of construction materials, and the systematic disposal and recycling of construction and demolition waste in accordance with regulatory norms.

DMRC has equipped its construction sites with anti-smog guns to reduce dust and suspended particulate matter generated during construction activities. DMRC was among the other in the National Capital Region to introduce this technology, well before it became a mandatory requirement. At present, nearly 82 anti-smog units are operational across different sites.

DMRC has strengthened oversight at its construction sites by increasing the number of inspections carried out by Environment Department officials. These inspections are to verify adherence to environmental protocols and ensure that all pollution-control measures are effectively implemented across project locations.
