BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) recently conducted a load test on the Open Web Girder (OWG) above the railway track between Baiyappanahalli and Benniganahalli metro stations. To ensure structural stability, a six-coach train loaded with sandbags, simulating full passenger capacity, was stationed on the OWG for about three and a half hours.

Mr. Jitendra Jha, the Project Manager for Rolling Stock at BMRCL, shared that load testing on the OWG near Benniganahalli started on Saturday and will run until August 19. The testing process would continue for seven days. The load testing involves stationing two six-coach trains on the OWG tracks. Meeting the requirements for load testing is crucial for obtaining clearance from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). The goal is to finish all tests between K.R. Pura and Baiyappanahalli metro stations by August 28, including signalling tests being conducted concurrently.

The OWG serves as a link to the Baiyappanahalli depot and station. Erecting such a structure over a busy railway track is a first for BMRCL under Phase II. Challenges faced during Phase II included rising steel prices due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
