Bengaluru: For HSRL, state government seeking fund from central government for completing the phase 2 project of Namma Metro from Gottigere to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) with High Speed Rail Link (HSRL).The project will carried out once the approval of central government is done. State Government official hoping cooperation of Central Government for this project.
“The project has not been shelved. We are ready to take it up between Yeshwantpur Railway station and KIA, provided the Centre agrees to it. We are also exploring an elevated lines as Yelanhanka to Devaanahalli is single line and is not electrified”, said Mahendra Jain, who is an additional chief secretary of urban development department.
“Namma Metro’s proposed airport connectivity won’t affect the HSRL project. Air passengers who want to travel quickly to and from the airport can use the high-speed trains.Others can use Namma Metro which has multiple stops. Both will serve different purposes,” Mahendra Jain, who is also managing director of BMRCL said.
Further he said that, “passengers can directly reach the airport, those travelling in high-speed trains may have to get off at the proposed station near Trumpet flyover and airport authorities may have to operate shuttle services to ferry passengers.”
E.Shreedharan, who is known as Metro Man of India also appreciated linking of HSRL to airport and said that, it is more better option than Metro.
BIAL CEO Hari Marar said that, “Considering Metro could take at least another four years to connect the airport to the city, suburban rail link could be an immediate option.Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) is in discussion with the Karnataka government and the Railways to implement this service, which would benefit both passengers and employees.”

High Speed Rail Line (HSRL) project was proposed in 2008 from M G road to KIA. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation also given a hope to state government of Bengaluru with detailed project report to cover 33 km at 25 minutes with maximum speeds of 160 kmph. But HSRL project could not receive support from DMRC. And in 2016 an inspection and visit was done in Bengaluru by Rail India Technical Economic Services (RITES). They clarify that an airport station (3km from the terminal) could be ideal for suburban rail connectivity from Yeshwantpur and Yelahanka to Devanahalli.
